The second generation Kia Niro will take its design from the Habaniro concept and take its electric technology from the Kia EV6

The next generation Kia Niro crossover has been spied on once again, but this time with a less camouflaged hood. The Korean brand’s latest competitor to the Nissan Juke and Peugeot 3008 will go on sale in the next two years with a bold new design, either with a petrol engine or pure electric power .

At the front, the headlights are positioned low on the bumper, while the hood is an all-new clamshell design that wraps around the front wings of the upcoming Korean crossover. Not everything has changed, however, as Kia appears to be willing to keep the car’s current wheel arch plastic trim and shark-fin antenna featured on the Kia Niro.

On the other hand, Kia has moved the new Niro’s taillights to a different position, placing them perpendicular to the car’s C-pillars rather than horizontally across the tailgate. The rear doors are also different from the current Niro and the illuminated quarter window looks new and hopefully impressive.

And the spying is not only limited to photography, but these spies also offer some hints about the powertrain of the upcoming Kia Niro . The crossover will be available with a pure electric option, but each of these tailpipes stick out from under its rear fenders, which indicates that it may retain combustion power and might even have a petrol engine.
Kia Niro multiple speculation

As such, the Kia Niro Mk2 Niro wouldn’t jump to stand on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, as it is only compatible with pure electric powertrains. Currently, Kia is the only maker to use the EV6 platform, which is positioned well beyond the Kia Niro’s affordable price segment.

At the 2019 New York Auto Show, Kia confirmed that the next Niro would keep the plug-in hybrid powertrains found in the current car . The spy photos confirm this point through the second crater that appears in the captured images.
To make the Niro’s combustion engine as environmentally friendly as possible, Kia can ditch the current 1.6-liter petrol engine in favor of a more efficient 1.5-liter unit of the latest model. However, this may involve engineering new hybrid and PHEV systems to fit the engine.

All this does not mean that the new Kia Niro e-Niro will not borrow some engineering technologies from the E-GMP platform. Transfers will likely include newer battery packs and an electric motor, both of which have the potential to propel the electric vehicle’s maximum range beyond the 300-mile barrier.

Kia says green vehicles will make up 25 percent of its sales by 2025. The company also aims to increase its share of the global electric vehicle market to 6.6 percent over the same period.
Price: We expect the 2023 Kia Niro will have a starting price of approximately $26,000. The 2023 Kia Niro is getting a major update and will be available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and fully electric format when it goes on sale later this year
