The exterior design of the 2022 Kia K5

The design of the 2022
Kia K5 takes on a dramatic look that indicates ambition.
It resembles a falcon due to its cleverly organized cabin.
And the details can be affected by its shape , but the 2022 Kia K5 has a clear and attractive design.
The lighting design rolls around its honeycomb grille, while the creases of the hood emphasize its beak-like beak.
It is semi predatory.
It hits an obstacle at the base of the windshield, where some lines intersect in a crowded fashion.

But Kia draws attention away from that spot with heavy body flares along its waist and a chrome strip that runs along the roofline.
The short stem and full-width taillights all make for a well-defined result.
Kia K5 2022 Interior Cabin Design
Inside, the 2022 Kia K5 looks amazing compared to its cost.
The design is both sophisticated and straightforward, and the cabin is outfitted with attractive materials such as wood trim on the dashboard and doors.
The 2022 Kia K5 also offers a host of premium interior features, such as ambient interior lighting on the dashboard and doors, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a wireless charging pad.

The interior of the 2022 Kia K5 has a more assertive natural look, adorned with plenty of glossy trim and hard plastic in lower-cost versions.
The EX and GT grades feature more quilted trim, metallic trim, and even open-pore wood grain.
On all grades of the 2022 Kia K5 there is an 8.0-inch touchscreen in some grades, and 10.3 inches in sedans with navigation.

The driver feels high above the seat even at its lowest point, even the seat is comfortable for the left foot, and the accelerator pedal articulated on the ground is nice touches.
The rear seat also offers plenty of legroom, and the trunk has plenty of room for luggage.
We were able to reinstall seven handbags there.

Front row room is 40.2 inches, compared to 40.0 inches in the Hyundai Sonata.
The second row measures 37.8 inches, which is slightly less than the 38.4 inches of the Sonata.
Front row legroom is 46.1 inches on Kia and Hyundai.
However, there’s a bit more legroom in the second-row 2022 Kia K5, which is 35.2 inches versus the Sonata’s 34.8 inches.
It has 16.0 cubic feet of cargo space, with foldable second-row seats.
Kia K5 engine 2022
Most 2022 Kia K5 models are powered by a 180-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The engine comes standard with front wheel drive;
All-wheel drive is optional in all trims except the GT model.
The 2022 Kia K5’s 180-hp front-wheel drive showed decent acceleration around town, and our testing revealed a 7.0-second 60-mph cruise.

However, the engine was less impressive at highway speeds, where it needed extra time to make passes.
The compliant transmission and well-insulated cabin ensured that engine noise escaped, and it rarely made a faint roar.
The full Monty GT has a more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which produces 290 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque.
Combined with the exclusive eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The 2022 Kia K5 is equipped with larger brakes, a unique suspension system, and wider tires with 19-inch rims.
Our GT sprinted to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds and came to a stop from 70 mph in 163 feet.
The Sonata’s N line was a little faster at 60 mph (5.0 seconds average) and stalled for even the shortest distance (152 feet).
The 2022 Kia K5 was built in West Point, Georgia, along with the Kia Telluride.
The 2022 Kia K5 Competitors

The mid-size sedan formerly known as the Kia Optima has been transformed into the 2022 Kia K5.
Introduced in 2021, it stands out in its segment with an evocative exterior design.
But despite these looks, it remains a relatively ordinary car in terms of features and capabilities.
The 2022 Kia K5 is offered with a selection of turbocharged and all-wheel drive (AWD) engines.
Like the previous Optima, the 2022 Kia K5 is aimed at competing with powerful sedans such as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and mechanically related Hyundai Sonata.
2022 Kia K5 driving and performance impressions
Check out the design of the 2022 Kia K5.
If you hold the old idea that mid-size sedans look boring, the 2022 Kia K5 shatters that notion.
Z-shaped headlights, a modern taillight bar and a sloping side profile add to the beauty of this vehicle.
The reshaped Kia badge fits better with its aesthetics.

The real question is whether the K5’s engine underpins its successful look. The GT specs we tested showed it handling pleasant agility, and the 2.5-liter I-4 turbo has sporty power, but the ride quality is on the stiffer side.
On the flip side, base grades like the EX feature a lackluster steering, and the standard unit with a 1.6-liter engine fails.

Acceleration from 0 to 60 mph takes 7.8 seconds, and fuel economy rates between 27-29 mpg city and 37-38 mpg highway depending on the model.
AWD is not available.
Acceleration to 60 mph drops to 5.4 seconds.
Fuel economy ranges from 24/32 mpg city/highway.

In terms of functionality as a mid-size sedan, the K5 does well.
The Kia is also very spacious in the front row, if not as spacious as some competitors in the back seat.
The design and technology in the cabin are great, even if the quality of the materials is not.
And while it didn’t revolutionize the mid-size sedan, the 2022 Kia K5 is a marked improvement over the outgoing Optima.
Information, entertainment and communication
The 2022 Kia K5 comes standard with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that shares a frame with the dashboard.
A larger 10.3-inch touchscreen is standard starting with the GT-Line.

While the smaller screen offers wireless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Oddly enough, the larger screen does not require a wired connection.
However, the upgraded unit has customizable profiles and the ability to connect two Bluetooth devices at the same time.
The 2022 Kia K5 also has a Bose 12-speaker audio system for those who want the best audio experience.
