Experience driving, reviewing and evaluating the performance of the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022
Toyota entered the crossover battle before, and presented us with the Urban Cruiser, but it did not achieve success until its departure. Now, the Japanese giant is back with a compact crossover that relies on hybrid power via the Yaris model, so will the new Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 be a success? Especially since Toyota plans to produce 150,000 cars annually, which represents 8 percent of the market.
Toyota Yaris carries a historic name in the automotive world. It’s one of the Japanese manufacturer’s most popular cars, but at the same time it’s confusing because it’s presented in different ways depending on the market it’s being sold in. The American version of the Yaris, made by Toyota with Mazda, takes the form of a sedan, and is more similar to the Mazda2.
In 2019, Toyota introduced the Yaris in hatchback form for the European market, and in Europe, the Yaris (hatchback) is a completely different story, and in early 2020, it was modified by Gazoo Racing (GR), becoming quite similar to the Supra. In Egypt, the hatchback was introduced with the same specifications.

Later in the spring of 2020 , Toyota introduced another car bearing the Yaris badge and taking the form of a crossover , which is intended only for the European market, and may be launched in the Arab and Gulf region, and this time Yaris targets the small SUV segment that is growing rapidly.
Yaris usually offers the hatchback version to the Egyptian and Arab market, identical to the European version. Let’s check out this crossover that looks exactly like the hatchback, and evaluate everything about it. Note that all copies, whether hatchbacks or crosses, are similar in everything except for the outer cloak only.
Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 exterior styling
It’s called the Yaris Cross, but it’s a compact Toyota that’s stylistically closer in design to the RAV4. It is based on the same platform as the Yaris hatchback, but is higher, and you can see clear design influences taken from the RAV4, but in the front, the design looks cleaner and simpler than the RAV4, with stylish lights and front grille, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 is a very attractive car, especially in models Contrasting black roof.
Like the regular Yaris, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 is built on the new GA-B platform. That is, the same wheelbase, which has a diameter of 2560 mm, but the Yaris Cross is 240 mm longer than the hatchback with a total length of 4180 mm, width of 1765 mm and height of 1560 mm. And the ride is much higher than its sibling, by 30mm.

The Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 is designed to be tough and simple, it’s a hatchback-inspired crossover look, not the same. The front end looks more aesthetically pleasing with the smaller grille, with a smoother appearance of the bumper and bonnet. The side profile is a pure crossover, with special wheels wrapped in special livery.
A black ceiling contrasts with a specially designed coating called Copper Gold. The rear of the Yaris is similar to the regular version, where the same sculpted and bulging lines can be seen.
Toyota Yaris Cross interior design

Inside, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 looks more elegant than the old one, with newer gadgets, as well as an infotainment package. It’s a much nicer cabin than the regular Yaris, although the materials used are closer to those of the regular Yaris.
Base models are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen that runs on legacy Toyota Touch software, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections for smartphones. Higher-spec models get a new 9-inch screen with the latest Toyota software. The screen layout is brighter, the graphics are sharper… it’s a competitive entertainment system.

It’s built on the same wheelbase as the hatchback, but the 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross has a larger body, which translates to more room for passengers inside. With a perfect balance in the rear between passenger space and cargo needs. It also comes with an electric tailgate, and the roof can be divided into two parts, increasing the luggage compartment space.
Toyota Yaris Cross driving impressions
All Toyota Yaris Cross models have a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a steering wheel that moves in, out, up and down. Moreover, the wheel aligns precisely with the pedals and the seat, and the seat is, mainly, back-supportive, but on long trips it can cause inconvenience due to the lack of adjustable lumbar support.

The driver had easy access to the air conditioning controls, buttons and knobs I liked, and I didn’t have to fiddle around the complicated touchscreen to adjust the interior temperature. All in all, if you like to sit off the ground and in a higher and straighter position, try the Honda Jazz.
Vision, sensors and cameras in Toyota Yaris Cross
Seeing in the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 isn’t difficult, and it’s clear, especially when you’re looking straight ahead, tilted or sideways. The rear windshield should have been a little bigger. And for extra assistance when reversing, all models include a rearview camera as standard.

And if you want parking sensors, they are optional on mid-range models, and standard on the range-topping Excel model. But all models are equipped with automatic headlights (LED) and rain-sensing wipers.
Toyota Yaris Cross specifications, tools, accessories and features
In terms of instruments, the base model gets Yaris’ analog and digital “dual-lens” instruments, while more expensive versions get an all-digital cluster, and top models get a head-up display that projects its data onto the windshield.

As with all of its newer models, Toyota offers the usual communication equipment. There is a large center-mounted infotainment screen in the center of the dashboard and a digital instrument cluster in front of the steering wheel.
The controls for the HVAC system are still located under the phone-compatible central screen, the instruments are controlled from the knobs, and the cockpit is digitally managed.
Spaciousness and spaciousness in the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022

Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 has very good space in the front, and the front seats are very comfortable. The space in the back is a little tighter than some competitors, the boot capacity is 397 liters, and the rear seats fold in 40:20:40 ratios that are much larger than the competitors.

Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 محرك Engine
The Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 takes advantage of the Japanese automaker’s fourth-generation hybrid technology, already used in various configurations on cars such as the Corolla, C-HR, RAV4 and Camry. Like the regular Toyota Yaris, and the Toyota Yaris hatchback.
There is only one engine on offer for the 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross and it’s the same 1.5-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with plug-in hybrid electric as the one in the Yaris hybrid hatchback. The regular Yaris, and the only powertrain option available on the high-spec Adventure model, can be fitted with an auxiliary electric motor that drives the rear wheels with all-wheel drive.
Maneuverability and stability in the 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross
Toyota says the reason being limited to one engine is due to the increasing demand for hybrid power, and the good news is that the engine is a perfect fit for the 2022 Toyota Yaris Cross. With 116 horsepower, of course, it’s not the fastest, and it gets a little annoying when you accelerate too hard (maybe the reason The automatic gearbox (CVT), but it goes quietly., and I was satisfied enough with the performance.

The Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 is very economical. Putting it on a short, relatively low-speed test track, the average petrol consumption was 3.7 liters per 100 kilometres, which is hugely impressive. We also spent 67 percent of our driving time in emission-free electric mode.
While driving in the city, the Toyota Yaris Cross engine charged 80% of the electricity. And I could drive it like an electric car, because all the Yaris Cross’s electricity is generated by its engine, and it’s not very clean, but it’s impressive.
Noise and vibration in the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022
You’ll be impressed with Yaris’ laid-back demeanor around town, often letting the petrol engine sleep while the electric motor does all the work. Toyota claims the Yaris can run on battery power alone for up to 80% of the time, and if you’re crawling in traffic, that may actually be true.

In normal driving, though – even in urban environments – the gasoline engine runs for extended periods of time. It’s relatively faint when you’re driving quietly, but when you accelerate hard and with the engine revving it gets louder, and the sound of the car remains loud until you hit cruising. You’ll also feel some engine vibration through the soles of your feet and the steering wheel.
The Toyota Yaris Cross is powerful on the highway but also relatively loud. The roar of tires is a big concern, so if you want a really quiet little car, the Polo car war.
Suspension and Driving Comfort of Toyota Yaris Cross 2022
The Icon or Design models get 16-inch alloy wheels, with regular suspension. This combination provides a fairly steady ride, as the Yaris follows simple road lines and pushes you into your seat more subtly than a Volkswagen Polo or Honda Jazz.

The dynamic and Excel models are fitted with 17-inch K-alloy wheels and “sport” suspension. It makes the ride more stable, but also means it’ll be noisier on the potholes. It is really best to avoid these two options.
Specifications, safety factors and safety in the Toyota Yaris Cross
Built on the GA-B platform, the Yaris Cross is intended for small cars with transverse engines, front or all-wheel drive, and is just the right platform for them. It also gives the car the required rigidity and balance.

Equipped with the full suite of safety and driver assistance systems that Toyota regularly uses, the Toyota Yaris Cross 2022 is fitted and tested in a division the automaker calls Safety Sense. It allows the driver to be aware of everything going on around the vehicle through early warnings and sensors, to lend a helping hand when automatic braking and steering intervention are needed.
How good is the Toyota Yaris Cross
The quality of the Yaris is certainly not low, it is higher than the Hyundai i20 and Ford Fiesta. All parts are tightly screwed together, but the interior lacks the upscale feel of a Peugeot 208 or Volkswagen Polo.

True, there’s some grainy plastic on the dashboard and switches, and they all look well-engineered, but there’s also plenty of rough, matte plastic in better understated and hidden places than its competitors.
Equipment, options and extras in the Toyota Yaris Cross
Yaris Cross is well-equipped, even on entry-level Icon models; It gives you climate control, electric front windows, 16-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is our selection that we suggest you from the collection.

The Design model is on the next rung of the category ladder and is also worth a look. For a reasonable fee, it comes with power windows in the rear, rear window pane, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen system.
Value-for-price Toyota Yaris Cross “Pricing”
Prices for the new Toyota Yaris Cross start at 27,260 euros, which is higher than major competitors such as Ford Puma (22,314 euros), Opel Mokka (23295 euros) or Renault Captur (23,270 euros). However, none of these competitors offer hybrid power at this price (except for the Puma which is a mild hybrid only).
The Toyota Yaris Cross outperforms all-electric competitors such as the Opel Mokka-e and Peugeot e-2008 by more than 4,000 euros, and in contrast we find it well-equipped as standard with an 8-inch touch screen, reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and a range of Electronic safety aid.
