In the past few months, we’ve been getting some previously leaked spy photos online about the possible design language of the fourth-generation Toyota Tacoma midsize pickup.
Now, Japanese automaker Toyota has revealed the first official photos of the upcoming 2024 Toyota Tacoma pickup, on its Instagram page.
Toyota’s Instagram post may be the long-awaited teaser of the 2024 Tacoma’s exterior design, however, the only teaser envelops the truck in a dark shadow that obscures details and makes styling and other changes hidden from view.
The automaker has strengthened this powerful truck in an unprecedented way, especially with its new design, Tundra-inspired interiors, and perhaps the new hybrid engine, which we will introduce you to in this report.
Toyota Tacoma 2024
A midsize luxury pickup, it should be noted that the next generation Tacoma will receive updated mechanical components, thus increasing the truck’s capability.
It is likely to be a direct competitor to the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado and Ram 1500.
It will also use the same TNGA-F architecture, essentially a body-on-frame platform that underpins the larger Tundra, the new Sequoia and the highly anticipated 2024 Toyota 4Runner.
2024 Toyota Tacoma specifications
Exterior design
- Visually, the new truck hasn’t undergone a major overhaul. It doesn’t look all that different from the current Tacoma, we say that because the silhouette gives us a hint of the design of the third-generation Tacoma.
- Instead, its design will be evolutionary with a rugged look, as the truck has generally become sharper in its styling, whether on the front fascia, roofline, tailgate or fenders.
- The silhouette still reveals the distinctive features that reflect the features of the new full-size 2023 Toyota Tundra, adding some excitement with its distinctive pick-up look.
- The exterior parts of the Toyota Tacoma’s redesign will be heavily influenced by the design language seen in the new-generation Tundra and Sequoia.
- It’s also expected to undergo a major makeover relative to the current model. Not only will it have an all-new body, but the new Tacoma will get an overhaul in terms of its exterior design, cabin design, technology, features, as well as its powertrain.
- This means that the new version of the upcoming truck will come with greater features and many elements that have a similar design to its larger siblings.
- The mid-size pickup will also feature a wide grille surrounded by strong headlights and vertical ventilation holes below.
- The photo did not reveal the size of the 2024 pickup. It should be larger than the current pickup, but it will still be much shorter than its redesigned Tundra.

Interior Design
- The interior design is still a mystery at the moment and the cabin is pretty much camouflaged in spy photos, as the spy photos didn’t catch details coming in, though, so you can probably guess what it’s going to look like with a Tundra truck.
- We can reasonably assume at this point that we’ll see a much more substantial upgrade than we’ve seen between the second and third generation trucks.
- It is expected to be very similar to the modern design of the new Tundra, which means that the new cabin will get better quality materials and provide a comfortable driving experience.
- One aspect that has been criticized is the passenger space in the cabin, especially in the second row of the crew cab version. However, we expect the company to make some significant improvements in this department in the new Tacoma.
- Another area where we expect the new Tacoma to make significant improvements over its current model is infotainment and connectivity.
- Although Toyota hasn’t revealed specific details yet, spy photos reveal the new dashboard that will feature a new infotainment screen, like the Tundra’s 14-inch touchscreen, that supports several systems in the pickup where connectivity will be available via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay plus voice command facilities.
- It is also expected to come with a new digital instrument cluster behind the wheel with gauges for important information such as temperatures and fuel level.
- In addition, you can get additional passenger-centric features to ensure a better in-cabin experience.
Mechanical specifications
- On the mechanical level, the current-generation Toyota Tacoma has an engine line-up consisting of two gas-powered units: a four-cylinder engine producing 159 horsepower and a V6 engine producing 278 horsepower, with a six-speed automatic transmission.
- Tacoma hasn’t officially confirmed specifically its fourth-generation powertrain, while it’s technically rumored, claiming Toyota will ditch the 3.5-liter V6 in the new version for a choice of four-cylinder engines with higher power output. Thanks to the turbocharger.
- Looking around the lineup, the most likely base engine is the 2.4-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder from the Highlander SUV. This engine makes 265 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque for an SUV, giving the Tacoma roughly equal performance. (if not slightly better) than the outgoing V6, the eight-speed automatic transmission should also play a useful role.
- A hybrid powertrain option may also be available, featuring a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder also with an electric motor that delivers up to 366 total system horsepower, potentially giving the Tacoma an advantage in fuel economy.
- It is the same engine that is available in the Lexus RX Hybrid and is also available in the Grand Highlander.
- The hybrid is likely reserved for higher-spec 2024 Tacoma models.
- The 2024 Toyota Tacoma will likely continue to offer 2WD and 4WD models. Moreover, the TRD Pro off-road class can get.
When will we actually see the 2024 Toyota Tacoma?
- Most likely, the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will enter production before the end of this year as the 2024 model.
- We can’t really say for sure when we’ll actually see it, but we’ll find out more information over the next few months as the fourth-generation Tacoma gets closer to being released.
