2022 Toyota Tundra 01

Toyota Tundra 2022 first look review The famous V8 engine missed without problems

It’s finally here. The all-new third-generation Toyota Tundra has arrived revamped for 2022. The last time Toyota’s full-size pickup truck received an overhaul was in 2007. A series of upgrades in 2014 enabled it to stay competitive for a long time.

2022 Toyota Tundra PricingThe most basic 2022 Toyota Tundra, the SR Double Cab with the non-hybrid version of the twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine, starts at $35,950. As a 4X4, the new Tundra SR starts at $38,950. Tundra SR5 models begin at $40,755, while the new Tundra Limited starts at $46,850.

It is reported that the Toyota Tundra has accumulated millions of loyal fans over the years despite the tough competition coming from Detroit, the fortress of the American auto industry. Ford, GM and Stellantis have all completely redesigned their full-size truck offerings more than once since updating the Toyota Tundra eight years ago, yet the latter has managed to stay strong.

That scenario is out of date, as the Toyota Tundra 2022 comes with a new engine, adaptive suspension, powerful towing capabilities, an off-road version, and a long list of new technologies. The all-new interior looks solid yet luxurious, and the exterior structure renounces the smooth lines for a bolder, more aggressive look. On paper, the all-new Tundra is already the winner in the upcoming race.

Toyota Tundra built in California

The Tundra has always been a truck for Americans and the new exterior was designed at the Japanese automaker’s California design studio in the US. “Technical muscle” has been the main theme along with the outdoor lifestyle. Above all, the goal was to preserve the identity of the Toyota truck.

The large front grille differs slightly from the trim level and comes with a black grille for the off-road-ready TRD Pro, Toyota hasn’t officially confirmed but the headlights and taillights are very likely LED units. We especially like to see how the headlights are shaped directly into the front wheel arches. The vertical position of the taillights is a nice touch. Moving to the side, there is a lower letter line that tapers slightly upward to meet the pronounced creases that make up these wheel arches. The rear split window is a familiar and welcome design option.

Wheel designs will vary by trim level, which includes SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum and 1794. Wheel sizes range from 18 to 20 inches, again depending on paint. Some of the exterior colors include Ultra Snow White, Cool Pearl, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Cyan Silver Metallic, Ultra Sonic Red, Army Green and Lunar Rocks. Two unique four-door designs are available, along with beds measuring 5.5, 6.5 and 8.1 feet.

Force missions, off-road driving, transport duties

Buyers will have a choice of two engines: the standard twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 389 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque or the twin-turbo V6 (officially called the i-Force Max) that puts out 437 horses that’s much healthier and more powerful. Its engine spins at 5,200 rpm and produces 583 pound-feet of torque at just 2,400 rpm. The new 10-speed automatic transmission features a service mode for sequential shifts, up/down gradient shift logic, and normal and special traction modes. But goodbye to the V8.

Another first thing to mention about the Toyota Tundra is the Sport and Sport+ driving settings that enable the hybrid to benefit from the immediate response of its electric motor. At more than 18 mph, the gasoline engine runs continuously to ensure maximum performance. And the Intake/Drag Mode keeps the hybrid system working to improve acceleration and torque for the new beast. The hybrid has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds while the payload is rated at 1,940 pounds. Official EPA ratings are not available.

And both TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road models receive a multi-terrain display. Rear steering and straight lane assist are very useful when maneuvering while towing things like boats. There is also the switch from rear leaf springs to coils. Up front, there is a new available double-wishbone suspension and adaptive suspension that adjusts the “brake” damping force according to road conditions.

With trucks continuing to advance and enjoying more interior comfort and technical features than ever before, the new Tundra had to do the same. Loaded and packed with amenities, the new interior design includes a new multimedia system with a touch screen and touch interface. An 8-inch screen is the standard price while a 14-inch screen is optional, but in both, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard. Listening to customers, Toyota rightfully stuck to the traditional volume knob rather than incorporating it into the touch screen. Buyers can choose between two gauge cluster designs: a 4.1-inch screen with traditional gauges or a 12.3-inch all-digital display.

The new cloud-based navigation system receives improvements with over-the-air (online) updates and is still able to work offline if needed. According to Toyota, the maps stored in its memory will take you home. Other notable technology systems include Toyota Connected Services, which offers 24/7 support with a real human representative and a 4G Wi-Fi hotspot.

Some standard safety systems also include Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Sign Assist, and Rear Seat Reminder.

Pricing and competition

Toyota hasn’t announced official pricing at this time , but we don’t think it’ll differ much from the previous model’s $35,000 starting point . And fully loaded models will easily cross the $55,000 mark.

The competition in the large-size truck segment is more than fierce. The base of the Detroit automaker’s three-month fortress doesn’t like outsiders like the Tundra or the Nissan Titan. The Ford F-150 remains the best seller, and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ram 1500 continue to battle for second place in the sales competition. Truck buyers are usually very loyal to a particular make and model. Those who aren’t biased will find plenty to love in the Toyota Tundra 2022 Tundra, especially the hybrid version. The 430 hp F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid has been a smash sales success, proving that truck buyers are electrified. Of course, Toyota has no intention of missing the party.

Toyota recently unveiled its epic new Tundra race truck, and we really love the truck and look forward to trying it out for ourselves, but even before we get a chance to put the new Toyota Tundra in its stride, there’s already a cooler version that we’ll never be able to drive. For the first time, Toyota will launch the Tundra TRD Pro campaign in the 2022 Nascar Camping World Truck Racing Series.

There are rumors in the echoes of the world that Toyota will provide its mighty truck Tundra with the new technology that it invented and is still waiting for its patent, to make the Tundra a new revolution in the world of cars, and although the news was not confirmed, the pictures published by Toyota about its new invention to move the four wheels of the car at an angle of 90 degrees were In the image of the Tundra, while Toyota has officially confirmed that it will use this technology on electric platforms, but rumors are rumored to use it in the Tundra to become or a gasoline car that uses this technology, despite the difficulties it has in copying gasoline.
