The iconic 2023 Honda Civic Type R is unveiled
Speaking of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R, it won’t come cheap, but for anyone who dreams of buying the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R, you’ll get one sound and higher performance than before, the all-new Honda Civic Type R has succeeded on Racetrack and respected by driving enthusiasts the world over, it’s more powerful than ever, featuring a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 315 horsepower, and best of all, mated to a precise six-speed manual transmission.

Even at the end of its life, the outgoing Honda Civic Type-R remained the benchmark for front-wheel-drive hot hatchbacks. Yes, the Volkswagen Golf GTI may have something to say in this regard, but the Type R has a deeper driving personality, which is what endeared it to enthusiasts. Now, it’s time for the new model to raise the bar again. The 2023 Civic Type R comes with a more powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 315 horsepower.
Yes, I am a fan of the six-speed manual gearbox. This transmission makes it the most powerful production car Honda has ever sold. It may have a lighter exterior design compared to the previous model, but the driving experience is something else. And Toyota really summoned its beautiful GR Corolla cars to the competition arena in the market, which makes us say that the new Honda Civic 2023 Honda Civic Type R is ready for a great battle. Are you ready to read the following lines to learn more about the high performance icon?
New Honda Civic Type R 2023
While we didn’t put the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R to rigorous testing, it’s no secret that it’s Honda’s best new hot car that aims to provide the same entertainment as its last car, but with more power and brakes this time around. The new CTR has grown muscle and got a bigger body, but it still stands on smaller 19-inch wheels wrapped in wider Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The front and back tracks have also become wider.
The 2023 Honda Civic Type R now uses lighter, two-piece front brake rotors to reduce weight, and the engine has increased to nine horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque. It’s the same engine but updated to produce 315 horsepower and the same 2.0-liter manual transmission. Six speeds. No longer do you have to log data with a smartphone app, as performance recording tools can now be accessed from the 9-inch infotainment touchscreen. And for more on the Honda Civic, you can follow our comprehensive 2022 review .
Honda Civic Type R 2023 prices
Honda gave us a relatively deep look at the Honda Civic Type R 2023 like many others, but it refused to distinguish anyone and did not reveal the price of the Honda Civic Type R, but based on the previous model, which was sold for about $ 38,000. We expect the new Honda Civic Type R 2023 to cost around $40,000.
The exterior design of the Honda Civic Type R 2023
The exterior of the new Honda Civic Type R features a less aggressive design than before. It’s clearly still a performance-oriented model, and that shows from the narrower body and the lightweight 19-inch wheels wrapped in wider Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Honda says these new wheels have a “reverse rim” design that enhances grip to the tire contact patch under load.

Up front, there’s a larger grille, new side sills, and wider rear doors exclusive to the Type-R. The grille has a honeycomb grille design, it’s a great design, but the most aggressive angle is at the rear where the large triple exhaust outlets are located. The rear spoiler competes for attention. As always, that red badge continues the Type R tradition, and behind the black wheels are visible red Brembo calipers. While the side spoiler, side mirrors and rooftop antenna feature a glossy black finish.
The exterior colors of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R
Honda Civic Type R colors from the popular brand include white. Sonic Gray Pearl and Boost Blue Pearl are two other premium colors, while the standard shades come in Rallye Red and Crystal Black Pearl.
Dimensions of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R
With its unique aerodynamic touches, Honda says the new Type R is 0.8 inches longer and 0.6 inches wider than before. These changes give the new R a particularly aggressive and sporty look, with every new detail smoother than that of the outgoing car. The hot hatch measures approximately 180.9 inches in length, 55.4 inches in height, and 74.4 inches in width.

Key dimensions of the Honda Civic Type R include a wheelbase of 107.7 inches – it’s 1.4 inches longer than before. Also, the front and rear tracks have been widened by an inch and 0.75 inches respectively, which contributes more to the Sevim’s straight-line stability and makes the steering feel more engaging. The weight of the previous Type-R was just over 3,100 pounds, and after undergoing a slimming process, Honda was able to significantly reduce the weight of the new car.
Honda Civic Type R 2023 engine
Under the hood of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine, codenamed K20C1. More powerful and responsive than before, it now produces 315 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 310 lb-ft of torque between 2,600 and 4,000 rpm. The new changes include a redesigned turbocharger, a more efficient exhaust system, and an increased intake air flow rate.

Compared to the previous 2023 Honda Civic Type R, the new model makes nine horses and 15 more lb-ft, and specific output has increased from 153.3 hp/L to 157.8 hp/L. And Honda does well to keep the 9-speed manual transmission paired with this ferocious engine, with a lighter flywheel and a faster match-shift transmission. Honda says the “high-rigidity lever and optimized shift gate pattern” provide “reassuringly precise and extremely precise gear change.”
The transmission sends engine power to the front wheels as is usual in the Civic, and the Japanese manufacturer Honda promises that the transmission will provide more precise changes, and not to forget the new 2023 Honda Civic Type R comes with a lighter flywheel and a new rev matching system. And the power mode is optimal, for which there is a helical-type limited-slip differential.
Powertrain performance in the 2023 Honda Civic Type R

While we don’t know what the 0-60 mph time is yet, the new variant will be able to reach a top speed of 170 mph. Although Honda did not tell us the new number, we remember together that the previous model used to take about 5.5 seconds to reach from 0-60. Specifications indicate that it will be an exceptionally close battle between the 2023 Honda Civic Type R and the Toyota Corolla GR (300 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque) which will have a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive.
Driving modes in the 2023 Honda Civic Type R
Four driving modes will be offered, including a single mode that allows drivers to choose and mix their preferred settings for the engine, dampers and steering. Modes include Comfort, Sport and R+ mode, as well as the new Individual mode, which enables you to further personalize the driving experience. A=New two-piece front brake rotors are said to reduce unsprung weight, and brake cooling is said to be better than before. Up front, there are four-piston Brembo calipers.

Although it is front-wheel drive only, the new Honda Civic Type-R hatchback has already proven to be a capable track and field car. It clocked 2:23.120 at Suzuka, a new record for an FWD-powered car, and beats the previous limited edition 2023 Honda Civic Type R. I suspect an attempt will be made at the Nürburgring racetrack soon.
Suspension in the 2023 Honda Civic Type R

Honda says it has developed the Civic Type R to be the fastest front-wheel-drive, front-engine vehicle. It offers an “addictive” driving feel and high stability at all speeds. Honda retuned the dual-pivot front suspension and gave the Type R a multi-link rear suspension to improve the car’s straight-line stability and steering feel. While giving the front brakes two-piece rotors, Honda also improved cooling over the previous model.
Development of the Honda Civic Type R 2023
The Civic Type R benefits from additional upgrades such as a larger radiator and lighter, two-piece front brake caliper. Honda also increased the number of revolutions per minute, which means more open the active exhaust valve, to increase the symphony of the four-cylinder car. And a lighter-weight flywheel with rev-matching should give more reward for paddling in the new six-speed manual transmission.

The front-engined only Honda will continue with the use of an innovative dual-pivot front suspension that does a great job of suppressing torque vectoring. Honda may not have offered ingenious design at the front of the car, the Type R isn’t visually extreme, but it still has a prominent rear spoiler and other aerodynamic additions. We’re very much looking forward to strapping our test equipment into the new 2023 Honda Civic Type-R and seeing what it can do. We will update this story with the results of the tests.
Fuel economy of the Honda Civic Type R 2023
Honda didn’t publish any fuel-efficiency scores that surprised us, but we still have the mileage, and we’re awaiting EPA numbers for the 2023 Honda Civic Type-R hatchback. We both remember that the previous version had a mileage of 22/28/ 25 mpg city/highway/combined and the fuel tank was about 310 miles dewy.
Car interior design
The new Civic Type R has a more streamlined interior than its predecessor, but it does not suffer from a lack of vital visual cues. Yes, the interior of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R should be excellent, and I found its cabin spacious and solidly built, without a steep learning curve.

Second-row legroom is also great for a car in this segment. Fortunately, there are physical buttons for managing the controls inside, especially the buttons for the ventilation system, and the honeycomb strip that hides the ventilation ports is a nice touch.
The quality of materials in the interior of the Honda Civic Type R 2023
Perhaps the first thing you notice upon entering the cabin of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R is the abundance of red. Aside from the exterior colour, as far as we’ve seen the interior is finished in Black/Red with a heavy presence of red in the front – all the way to the carpeting – and black in the rear. Honda upholstered the seats in the 2023 Honda Civic Type R with distinctive upholstery,
Honda seats

The latter includes red accents, carbon fiber trim, and the familiar set of extremely comfortable and supportive front seats. It used suede-like leather upholstery, and the Japanese manufacturer says that the new seats hold and surround the body of the driver and passengers tightly, especially in high-G driving scenarios, but I noticed that the driver’s seat seating position is lower than before. But it should be noted that we noticed that the new R car can accommodate only four passengers, and there are no five seats / and the place of the fifth seat has been allocated for cup holders in the back center.
Infotainment system in the 2023 Honda Civic Type R
Enthusiasts will enjoy many additional performance features. There is a new counter design exclusive to Drive + R mode, featuring a data display, the display showing engine rpm and gear position indicator. The Honda LogR records and displays real-time vehicle behavior information, and there is a stopwatch to record lap times. Other standard features include a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning.

And you can share videos while driving easily. The central touch screen measures 9 inches, and the screen provides access to the Apple PlayKey and Android Auto systems wirelessly, and with regard to the audio system, the Type R is equipped with a Bose center point sound system as standard.
Luggage box of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R
The trunk space of the new Civic R is 24.5 cubic feet, and the rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 ratio, which means that it will be practical enough for daily use as well. And if you need more cargo space than that, the roomy Honda CR-V has it.
Safety and driver assistance features of the 2023 Honda Civic Type R

The 2023 Civic Type R has not been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). We expect Honda to continue equipping it with a suite of standard driver-assist technologies. Key safety features should include:
- Standard forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
- Standard lane departure warning and lane keeping assist
- Standard adaptive cruise control
