Detailed review of 2022 Kia EV6, features, disadvantages, specifications and prices

Kia EV6 test drive: a new kind of cool

Kia’s electric transformation plan includes the production of 11 new electric cars until 2026, and the beginning was a compact crossover called the 2022 Kia EV6. It is based on the E-GMP platform it shares with the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the upcoming Genesis GV60, an all-electric vehicle from the Korean manufacturer.

The Kia EV6 is already facing stiff competition in the growing market for affordable electric vehicles. Indirect competitors include the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Aiwink 5, Volkswagen ID.4 and, to a lesser extent, the Tesla Model Y. Tesla’s market-dominant competition for electric cars alongside upcoming competitors looks tough, but the EV6 is armed with some serious firepower. .

The price, 310-mile range, and 167-320 horsepower range make the Kia EV6 highly competitive in this booming segment . We had the opportunity to test the new Kia EV6 in two trims to see if the competition was in favor of the Korean automaker and the electric vehicle market as a whole.

New Variations in the Kia EV6 2022

2022 Kia EV6 is an all-new electric car scheduled to enter the market in the first quarter of 2022. The car will be available in three trim levels, Light, Wind, and GT-Line, and will come in either rear or all-wheel drive. Prices will start at $40,900, and the EV6 will have a range of 310 miles. in one shipment. It’s the brand’s first electric vehicle, and it’s built on Hyundai Group’s E-GMP platform, so expect great similarities to Hyundai’s Ioniq 5.

Electric cars take all kinds of odd shapes and sizes, and Kia has managed to develop a design that is attractive from almost any angle. And I loved the sharp design of the front end and the flowing profile. It’s tastes. You may not like the Kia EV6, but we think it looks great, especially the wrap-around taillight assembly. The five-spoke wheels are also a nice touch and match the rest of the funky exterior design.

19-inch wheels were designated for the LIght, Wind and GT-Line classes, and the upper class had 20-inch wheels. LED lighting is standard on all trims, but each has specific design elements, gloss black wheel arches on the top grades, power tilt and sliding sunroof on the GT-Line and 1st Edition and automatic pop-out door handles.

2022 Kia EV6 Dimensions

Dimensions vary by design, but the EV6’s key dimensions remain the same. The wheelbase is identical to 114.2 inches, and the length varies from 184.3 inches to 184.8 inches in the GT-Line thanks to custom design elements.

Likewise, the GT Line is wider and is 74.4 inches wider compared to 74 inches on the other models, but all grades are 60.8 inches taller and have 6.1 inches of ground clearance. Curb weight ranges from 4,017 pounds to 4,661 pounds in the fully loaded AWD model.

  • Length 184.3 inches
  • Wheelbase 114.2 inches
  • Height 60.8 inches
  • Max width 74.0 inches
  • Front width 64.2 inches
  • Rear width 64.6 inches
  • Curb Weight, 984.0 lbs

2022 Kia EV6 Exterior Colors

The Kia EV6’s color palette is more extensive with attractive colours. Many of these variations are premium paints and are limited by categories. And at an additional cost.

2022 Kia EV6 Performance

With its wide range of engine configurations, the Kia EV6 offers a driving experience that ranges from fun to powerful and everything in between. The base rear-wheel drive model produces 167 horsepower which is ideal for city and suburban areas, with an acceleration time of 60 mph in 8 seconds, and a top speed of 115 mph. And the battery is bigger. The AWD version is capable of towing 2,300 pounds.

948234 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

The RWD Wind and GT-Line models produce 225 horsepower (it accelerates 0-60 in 7.2 seconds) and all-wheel drive models have the same dual-motor powertrain, generating 320 horsepower. Kia says it can reach 60 mph in 5.1 seconds, and has a top speed of 117 mph. And for those high-performance seekers, the 576-horsepower GT-class engine (it will be delayed until late 2022) is expected to deliver massive performance, sprinting from 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.

948143 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

All-wheel drive versions get an additional front engine booster to boost output to 320 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is sent to the powertrain available in the higher trim, and driving enthusiasts will note that rear-wheel drive models come with a rear limited-slip differential.

2022 Kia EV6 Car Battery

A variety of power outputs and drivetrain options are available, from the city-friendly version to the performance-focused. Lighter rear-wheel drive models get a 58 kWh battery with a single motor that produces 167 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the Wind RWD and GT-Line RWD grades get a 77.4 kWh battery paired with a rear-wheel drive that produces 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

2022 Kia EV6 Driving Impressions

During our experience driving the GT-Line Dual Motor e-AWD model, I found it to go off strong. But I noticed some acceleration lag the faster I went, and the Kia EV6 made me feel faster when I hit the gas pedal.

2022 Kia EV6.jpeg

It’s no surprise for the Korean manufacturer to build comfortable cars for passengers, as their cars are surprisingly fun on the road. And the Kia EV6 is no exception. Where the battery is placed in the low floor, the Kia EV6 keeps its grip in corners, it’s more stable than most conventional gasoline cars. But there was still some body roll, and once the suspension kicked in, I felt completely confident in the Kia EV6 on winding roads.

948153 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

I loved the wider tires and more powerful brakes that benefit from the balanced chassis, I also tested the GT-Line RWD class with rear-wheel drive and its good performance made it my favourite. With less weight up front and allowing those wheels to focus solely on changing direction, the steering on this model felt more natural without the secondary engine. The rear-wheel drive RWD transmits its power to the crossover in an amazing way.

2022 Kia EV6 Range

Kia offers two battery sizes in the EV6. The smallest 58-kWh unit is in the AWD-only Wind class, providing 232 EPA-certified miles with energy ratings of 136/100/117 city/highway/combined.

846119 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7 1.jpg

The larger 77.4 kWh battery on the Wind and GT-Line models provides additional range, and the two engines work together for up to 310 miles on a single charge, and in rear-wheel drive they have power ratings of 134/101/117. And in all-wheel drive, the overall range drops by 274 miles to 116/94/105 miles per charge.

2022 Kia EV6 Charging Options

948232 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

The Kia EV6 is one of the first cars to support 400-800 volts charging, with charging speeds of 350 kW. It covers 70 miles in just 5 minutes, or 217 miles in 18 minutes. As for the L2 home charger, it takes about six hours to charge it from 0-100% in the Light category and seven hours for the rest of the categories, while a typical DC fast charger takes 63 minutes for the smaller capacity battery and 73 minutes to charge the larger battery.

2022 Kia EV6 Interior Cabin Design

The interior of the 2022 Kia EV6 has a proper futuristic look, it’s full of screens and cut-out surfaces. The floating center console houses a gear selector, a start/stop button, and a wireless phone charging pad. I loved the two-spoke steering wheel, the two-tone microfibre-upholstered seats, and clever storage solutions like the extra compartment under the boot floor and the storage bin under the center console.

948168 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7

Visibility and space are impressive, and the overall build quality and choice of materials are good. Kia has come a long way, bringing us a futuristic cabin that’s on par with its peers and better than many of them.

Comfort and Seats for the 2022 Kia EV6

Kia EV6 is a five-seat crossover, and Kia has enhanced the space inside the EV6 by increasing the wheelbase to the same length as the Telluride without including the front or rear overhangs. Front passengers enjoy a massive 42.4 inches of legroom, while rear passengers have 39 inches.

948171 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

Headroom is somewhat less spacious due to the lowered roofline, the floor of the EV6 is completely flat, feels open, and is comfortable for the middle passenger in the rear seat. The company has hinted that it will produce an electric car, called the EV9, with three rows of seats in the future.

2022 Kia EV6 Cabin Interior Colors & Materials

Kia has taken an environmentally conscious approach to the interior design and materials used. Forward-thinking like recycled plastic and vegan leather upholstery. Kia says the interior contains up to 100 recycled water bottles. Even the seat frames are made of ultra-light Giga Steel to increase rear legroom.

846092 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

Mixed cloth and synthetic leather seats are standard on the Light, the Wind and GT-Line grades with faux leather seats, and the GT-Line grades with faux leather/suede seats.

Luggage and Cargo Space for Kia EV6 2022

846107 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

The cargo capacity of the Kia EV6 is lower than that of its competitors due to the sloping roofline. Trunk space is 24.4, increased to 50.2 cubic feet with the seats folded 60/40. Other electric cars in this category offer more space. Storage in the Kia EV6’s cabin includes traditional door pockets, seat back map pockets, a glove box, and the center console with space, and offers two-tier storage, as well as a large trunk under the main console.

2022 Kia EV6 Reliability Problems

2022 Kia EV6 002.jpeg

The EV6 has barely entered international markets, so there’s no telling how reliable it is, but based on Kia’s track record of continuous improvement, we hope the EV6 is reliable. But only time will prove its reliability. It hasn’t had any problems at the moment.

Limited to five years/100,000 miles. Puncture-proof, with a five-year/60,000-mile roadside assistance plan.

2022 Kia EV6 Safety Specifications

At the time of writing, neither NHTSA nor IIHS has conducted a review of the Kia EV6. But with technologies like this, we expect good performance, matching the high standards of other Kia vehicles.

Quality Kia EV6 2022

948143 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7 1.jpg

The acceleration is good, the Kia EV6 is a car with a competitive price, eye-catching design, high technology, powerful range, ultra-fast charging and an excellent interior. If you’re shopping for a Mustang, Ioniq 5, Tesla Y or Volkswagen ID.4, we ask for a test drive of the Kia EV6. We believe it can change your mind about the Kia brand.

2022 Kia EV6 Prices

2022 Kia EV6 003.jpeg

The Kia EV6 starts at $40,900, which is significantly cheaper than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 at $43,650. The rear-wheel drive Wind is priced at $47,000, and the twin-engine Wind breaks the $50,000 mark to reach $50,900. The GT-Line is priced at $51,200 with rear-wheel drive, and $55,900 with all-wheel drive.

Additional Packages for Kia EV6 2022

846119 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7 2.jpg

Based on all three well-specified trims, Kia is keeping the EV6’s list of options short and sweet. The EV6 gets special numbered plates and badges, a heat pump, 20-inch wheels, and all available safety features for an additional $2,600.

Which Kia EV6 Model Should I Buy?

We had the chance to test the Kia EV6 with its bigger GT-Line battery, so we can’t talk about how the two base models will be driven. We recommend using the heat pump in the lite class, so that the cold does not affect the range. We also recommend upgrading to the more powerful Wind model with a larger battery and greater range.

948236 2022 Kia EV6 %D9%83%D9%8A%D8%A7.jpg

We believe that adding four-wheel drive makes the car noticeably faster and more powerful, but driving enthusiasts prefer rear-wheel drive. And if you’re thinking about price, check out the Windy rear-wheel drive model, which costs $47,000.

Compare the 2022 Kia EV6 to its competitors

Compare the Kia EV6 to the Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y is one of the best selling compact crossovers, it’s great and it performs amazing. It is exclusively offered with four-wheel drive and twin engines. 449 horsepower. Either Kia EV6 offers good performance levels, and is able to rival the Model Y in power and range. The upcoming GT is expected to outperform the Tesla Wii.

image 3

The Tesla Model Y gains more room with a much larger payload, and its trunk is good, and the Kia EV6 has more room for passengers in both rows. We do not know the reliability of Kia, but the leading warranty confirms its reliability, and the price is the decisive factor in the comparison and changes the equation in favor of Kia. They are affordable and qualify for tax deductions.

Comparison between Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 2022 is the first of three new electric models to be launched by the Korean brand under the Ioniq sub-brand. This attractive crossover is based on a new global platform dedicated to electric vehicles, and Kia shares the same platform. We prefer Hyundai’s retro look, and inside, both cars offer similar build quality and a wide range of digital displays.

image 2

The list of standard features is similar on the same two cars. But the Bionic 5’s charging area is larger. The Ioniq has a maximum power of 301 horsepower, and it accelerates to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 303 miles. This gives Kia the upper hand, however, when it comes to performance. Hyundai wins, and for the price they are both the same, but Hyundai is the champion here.

2022 Kia EV6 Features

  • Attractive design
  • Spacious Interior
  • Good ride with high quality
