The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE electric car is a scaled-down – albeit distinctive – version of the Mercedes EQS. Both are electric variants of the E-Class and S-Class models. The EQE’s slippery body and spacious cabin share the larger EQS’s design cues, and are offered with impressive features, most notably the full-width panoramic Hyperscreen.




Mercedes promises us a future full of electric vehicles. It plans to introduce 10 new electric models by 2022, and to phase out all petrol engines by 2030. The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE fills the space between Tesla’s compact Model 3 and midsize Model S.
It is expected that the electric Mercedes will have a driving range of more than 300 miles, in addition to fast charging capabilities that allow it to charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. It supports the EQ E350 + rear-wheel drive in the single-engine versions with 288 horsepower, while the EQE 500 engine generates 402 horsepower, in the four-wheel-drive pair versions.

The air-optimized 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE looks better than the luxury EQS, and it does even better on the inside. Its cabin excels at showing the luxury of an electric car. The cabin of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE enjoys high-quality materials, and the combination of laser-etched wood, metal cladding, and light rings creates a warm and inviting cabin.
The wide center console has knee room, which makes it very comfortable, especially with the optional massage seats. But the front windows do not go down completely.

With a single electric motor mounted to the rear axle, the EQE 350+ generates 288 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes says this setup will allow the car to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.6 seconds on its way to an estimated top speed of 130 mph.

The all-wheel drive version of the EQE500 will be offered with a second electric motor that powers the front wheels and produces 402 horsepower.
Range, charge and battery life in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE
All four EQE models have a 90.6 kWh battery, but only the EQE 350+ has a single rear-wheel drive engine that produces 288 hp. At the top of the EQE range is the AMG EQE, with a high-performance 328-volt engine battery tuned specifically for AMG. Standard with twin-motor all-wheel drive, the AMG-tuned engines have stronger magnetic fields and an output of 617 hp and 701 lb-ft of torque; The AMG Dynamic Plus package boosts it in increments to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. This shaves the 0-60 mph time from 3.4 seconds to 3.2 seconds.

A 90.6-kWh battery pack delivers power across the range, and the single rear-wheel drive propels the EQE from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds, according to Mercedes.
The second motor in the EQE 350 4Matic boosts torque to 564 lb-ft, so expect more thrust, but that doesn’t translate to much difference in windy races: it hits 60 mph in 6.0 seconds.

The EQE 500’s engine takes a big leap, and its twin-motor system is rated at 300 kW, boosting power to 402 hp and 633 lb-ft of torque. And it takes you from rest to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
The handling and stability of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE
Both configurations will be available with air suspension and rear-wheel steering, offering an extremely smooth ride and improved maneuverability in tight spaces.

I experienced the EQE350+’s quietness and speed at our test track, hitting 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. It’s not athletic. But the handling is less satisfactory than that of its rivals, the BMW i4 and Tesla Model 3, and the steering wheel and brake pedal, both feel unoriginal.

A choice of rear axle steering systems provides drivers with either 4.5 or up to 10 degrees of steering angle that turns the axles in opposite directions at low speeds to reduce wheelbase and simplify three-point parking and turning. making high-speed lane changes smoother.

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE suffers from limited visibility, with a not-so-long rear window and a high, wide dashboard. It misses a point of outward vision because the sloping roof presses against the front and rear windshields.
Noise in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE
Quietness in the EQE 350+ is great, as soon as you turn off the audio settings for video games via the touchscreen. Wheels and tires can add more noise, especially the 21-inch.

The 19-inch wheels with standard low-resistance tires give a nice sound, yet are quiet on the highways, even with the top speed limited at 130 mph.

The regenerative braking system has four levels that can be selected via the paddle shifters to recover energy as you wish:
- D+ mode is like coasting in a gas-powered car.

The suspension system consists of a four-link front setup and a multi-link rear setup. Air suspension and two different four-wheel steering systems are optional. And the adaptive dampers are a welcome upgrade.

In Comfort mode, the road is damped to keep the cabin quiet, but the engine up front will add some weight to smooth out the occasional ripple.

Sport mode boosts the adaptive damping, when equipped, and the light steering commands attention, but it’s the overall body stiffness that makes this a car that’s not harsh and comfortable to drive, and you won’t hesitate to drive it hard.
Crash tests of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE
Neither the independent safety agencies NHTSA nor the IIHS have tested any of the EQE or EQS models yet, but Mercedes equips the EQE sedan with excellent driver assistance features. We’re awaiting crash test results for a car, but overall it’s a heavy car and loaded with a lot of driver-assistance technology.
Safety and security tools in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE
Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, active lane control, blind-spot monitors, and a surround-view camera system.

Standard equipment on the EQE 350+ includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.8-inch touchscreen, Burmester audio, and a panoramic sunroof. The fingerprint sensor can store and upload up to seven different driver profiles. Options range from massage seats to a heated windshield.
2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE Prices
The base premium version starts at $76,050 for the EQE 350+, and you need an extra $3,000 for the twin-engine model, though it’s not much faster.

And for an extra $2,100 more, you get the Exclusive model with enhanced navigation and a Driver Assistance Package that includes blind-spot steering assist and a surround-view camera system with parking assist.

The $87,050 EQE 500 comes with rear axle steering and seems to strike the best balance of power, range, luxury and comfort, but I can’t recommend it until I drive it.
The energy efficiency of the 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE
The EPA hasn’t released fuel economy estimates for the EQE yet, but on our 75-mph road test fuel economy I recorded 67 mpg and a highway range of 260 miles with our EQE350+ test car. .
