Mercedes-AMG EQE Quick Review: The Silent Beast with 617 HP
Mercedes-Benz debuted the W211 E55 AMG sedan in 2002 with its slick V8 engine, billed as the world’s fastest production sedan. Two decades later, much has changed. This is the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE, it’s an electric version of the modern E-Class bearing the AMG badge, and it doesn’t have a V8 engine, but it’s much faster than the flagship E55.





The 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE is the high-performance version of the electric sedan previously revealed, and BMW and Audi currently have no direct alternatives. The new AMG EQE will have to prove itself against Tesla, and Mercedes-AMG is trying to convince car enthusiasts that they don’t need a resounding V8 or any ICE combustion engine at all to enjoy driving.
Mercedes-Benz is moving quickly to implement its electrification plans. The nearly century-old German manufacturer released the EQS sedan in 2021 as a groundbreaking all-electric vehicle and akin to its legendary S-Class. Now there’s the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE, a slightly smaller electric sedan, also available in a trim version. The AMG is geared towards high performance .

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE competes with the Audi RS e-tron GT, Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and Tesla Model 3 Performance.
The Audi RS e-tron GT is slightly faster, and the Audi needs just 3.1 seconds for standard acceleration. The Tesla Model S also takes 3.1 seconds, but the Plaid is the league champion with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than two seconds.

Yes, there is no electric version of the Audi A6 or BMW 5 Series (yet), but there are a few electric sedans likely to be marketed with the AMG EQE. That includes the smaller and cheaper BMW i4 M50, and then the larger Tesla Model S, but the Audi RS e-tron GT is another fast electric car that could win over buyers a rival to the AMG EQE.

The small EQE is similar in appearance to the larger EQS, except that the AMG offers a performance version that is much more powerful than its Mercedes counterparts. And that is the case here, as the AMG EQE delivers more than twice the power output of the EQE 350 and adds control, aerodynamics and interior upgrades to the standard car’s powerful performance.

The release date of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE is set as early as 2023. Therefore, it is likely that the AMG EQE will be introduced before the BMW i5.

The new exterior design of the Mercedes-AMG EQE: EQS from afar underscores that it is smaller, and the Mercedes-AMG EQE takes the form of a sedan like the larger EQS and features a similarly egg-shaped side profile and a sleeker chassis that is optimized for aerodynamics. Attractive, modern and more aggressive with its own AMG accents, there is an AMG-specific black grille with chrome vertical struts, along with digital headlights.





The tires are wrapped around 20-inch aerodynamically optimized lightweight alloy wheels, and 21-inch wheels are available. With the optional AMG Night package, there are additional elements in black chrome and red brake calipers.
At the rear, there is an aerodynamically optimized diffuser and a large rear spoiler. All in all, I liked the exterior design of the Mercedes-AMG EQE, it’s beautiful.

Closer in size to the Tesla Model S, the dimensions of the new Mercedes-AMG EQE are typical of a mid-size sedan. It measures 195 inches long, 75 inches wide and 58 inches high. However, Mercedes said that special measurements in the US will be announced shortly before the car’s launch.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE may not be as fast as a Tesla, and unlike previous E-Class AMG cars, the Mercedes-AMG EQE doesn’t have a petrol engine. Alternatively, two synchronous electric motors operate, one on each axle, and an AMG variable all-wheel drive system with 4MATIC+ performance is standard.

By default, the powertrain generates 617 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque. With the addition of the AMG Dynamic Plus package, these outputs are increased to 677 hp and 738 lb-ft. As expected, the acceleration is exciting. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds (3.2 with the above package) and has a top speed of 137 mph (or 149 mph). Mercedes says the battery must be charged at 70% to achieve these acceleration times.

Like other AMGs, the Mercedes-AMG EQE has been improved in many other ways to extract maximum performance and fun out of the sedan. It comes with the AMG Audio Experience using special speakers that emit different sounds based on driving modes and other parameters. Rear axle steering is standard, there’s a high-performance brake system with six-piston calipers, and there’s a race-start boost function with the AMG Dynamic Plus package.

If V8s look like a wild stomach and swallow a lot of gasoline, the AMG EQE comes with a smaller stomach and more power, backed by a new 90.6 kWh battery with fast charging up to 170 kW DC.

2023 Mercedes-AMG EQE Range
The floor of the AMG EQE houses a battery with a usable energy content of 90.6 kWh, which is slightly larger than the standard 90 kWh battery in the EQE. Although the AMG model’s battery is larger, it does not provide a longer driving range. The vehicle’s provisional total “range” range is between 444 and 518 kilometers (276-372 miles), based on the WLTP test cycle. And we haven’t actually tested our range.

The built-in 11kW charger (the 22kW internal charger is optional) allows for home charging or convenient charging at public AC charging stations. Over-the-air updates to the battery management system can improve efficiency over the vehicle’s life. Based on the WLTP standard, 112 miles of range can be added in just 15 minutes.
Stability and handling in the Mercedes-AMG EQE 2023
The car has an adaptive air suspension with a four-link front axle and a multi-link rear suspension. The vehicle reacts to changes in the road surface and driver behaviour, and responds to the selected driving situation by stiffening or softening. Rear-wheel steering is standard and offers up to 3.6 degrees of motion, which the automaker says improves handling and makes the car easier to maneuver in tight spaces.

In Sport or Sport+ driving modes, the car’s suspension lowers 0.6 inches to improve aerodynamics. The vehicle’s navigation system uses a combination of map data, traffic information, topographical features (elevation changes, etc.) and vehicle speed to produce the power of the fastest route with access to chargers along the route.

The usual AMG sporty refinements can be seen everywhere in the cabin. The interior colors of the Mercedes-AMG EQE are often dark, but the multicolored ambient lighting brightens it up. The instrument panel and belt lines are finished in Space Gray MB-Tex with red topstitching, and there’s a flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather, and black microfiber trim. To be offered at an additional cost, the Mercedes-AMG EQE seats can be upholstered in Nappa leather.

The optional MBUX Hyperscreen dominates the interior, extending across the entire width of the dashboard, and comprising three screens. It’s an impressive design, but due to the shortness of the experiment, we couldn’t test it, we’re still not sure if this giant touch screen is easier to use than traditional controls.

On the space side it’s good up front, and in the second row, expect a little less room from the EQS. Second-row headroom may be affected by the sloped roofline, but we’ll need more time inside the AMG EQE to determine occupant comfort and fully scale it up ourselves.

With just over 15 cubic feet of space, the Mercedes-AMG EQE’s cargo space is enough for daily meals, and up to four people can take their bags during the car journey.

The AMG EQE builds on the technical features of the EQE 350 with performance applications and other upgrades, including the AMG-specific audio program that gives the car a unique sound in various operating situations. For example, the “Race Start” mode produces a sound in line with the car’s heavy acceleration and performance.

Like the regular EQE 350, the AMG-tuned car is available with a panoramic Hyperscreen for outstanding infotainment, and runs the latest Mercedes-Benz used software (MBUX). The panoramic screen extends the length of the dashboard, and in addition to expected features such as Apple Play and Android Play for smartphone mirroring, the car offers AMG-specific functions such as performance displays and quick access to driving mode selections.
Driver assistance technologies in the Mercedes EQE 2022
As expected in a modern Mercedes EV, the car is packed with advanced driver assistance technologies. Mobility with electric assistance is one of them. This system plans your fastest route, taking into account charging stations along the route, and calculations are made about whether charging is necessary or not based on the distance traveled and the availability of charging stations.

The car features AMG Track Pace MBUX, a virtual race engineer that records lap times, complete vehicle data, and much more; It’s an odd addition in a luxury car like this, but it’s still AMG above all else.
Safety and Security Specifications of the Mercedes-AMG EQE 2023
The AMG EQE gets the same advanced driving assistance systems as the EQE 350. With a relatively comprehensive list of standard equipment, it includes features such as blind spot warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic emergency braking.

The car battery is placed in a special booster area under its body. Mercedes says it builds the cabin from extruded aluminum that forms a single, uninterrupted container. The company designed them to absorb energy in the event of a collision to prevent damage to the battery
