The seventh-generation Ford Mustang storms Detroit with a fresh look and an eight-engine engine that makes it better than ever.
The 2024 Ford Mustang has made a bold and perhaps historic move. The seventh-generation Mustang will likely be the last for the gas-powered muscle pony car, and Chevrolet is rumored to be leaving the Camaro as we know it for an electric one in 2024; Dodge confirmed that the Challenger and Charger will offer electrification around the same time.

The 2024 Ford Mustang was a passion project in the truest sense of the word, and it tried to justify building an internal combustion muscle car, and management ultimately backed the team’s moves. Ford is saddened to be in the midst of embracing electric trucks and SUVs. Of course, Ford Mustang fans who have bought nearly 10 million vehicles since it began production in 1964 will be pleased with the fact that Ford is sticking with the gasoline engine.
Ford’s adherence to gasoline comes at a time when primary competitors are pulling out of the gasoline-powered muscle cars segment, selling coupes, and convertibles have continued to trend lower in general, while cars (not SUVs and trucks) themselves are becoming an endangered species, amid Siege of popular high-riding cars. But the Ford Mustang has survived to this day. Although the Mustang Mach-E electric crossover already outsolds the traditional Mustang Coupe.
Ford Mustang 2024 Ford Mustang A success with the bitterness of parting
Over the past two weeks, Ford has focused on launching the seventh generation of the 2024 Ford Mustang (internal codename S650), teasing us with hints of new design elements and short cuts of the V8 engine. We’ve tried the new GT3 racing car noise, but it doesn’t matter at the moment. So what matters is that the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang has finally been revealed.

The 2024 Ford Mustang just got better than ever. “Investing in another generation Mustang makes a big statement at a time when many of our competitors are exiting the internal combustion engine business,” CEO Jim Farley says. But can it live up to the hype? As Executive Chairman Bill Ford said he knew it was the last internal combustion engine, and that the Mustang would roll off the internal combustion line in his lifetime, perhaps a tear from my eye.

And Bill Ford continued holding on: But we’re not there yet. Whatever the future holds, the 2024 Ford Mustang, revealed in Detroit on September 14 at the 2022 North American International Auto Show, is a commitment to many more years of traditional pony car sales.

“Orders for the 2023 model will open soon, and then the new car rolls out for 2024,” Ford said, “and it’s a de facto victory tour for the dynasty with its taut new looks, modernized interior, electronic drift brakes, and the ability to rev the engine with your key.” It is expected to come with two petrol engine options, automatic or manual transmission options, and a lot of technology, so let’s see if it’s worth the wait.
The exterior design of the 2024 Ford Mustang
The 2024 Ford Mustang will be released early next summer. With two options, one coupe and the other a roadster convertible, or choose between the base model with an EcoBoost four-cylinder engine or the more powerful GT model with a V-8 engine with a manual transmission. Classic silhouettes are abandoned in favor of a bolder look with muscular fenders, a lower beltline, and a sexier pull. “It feels like a fist in the wind going down the road,” said global design director Joel Piaskowski .

Over its long lifecycle, we expect to see heritage names like Boss, Bullitt and Mach 1 roll out.” “There is definitely some room within the platform architecture and powertrain to do more,” says Ed Krenz, Mustang chief engineer. It’s based on the new S650 platform, a modified version of the current S550, and there are a few carryovers from the old car such as the roof, A-pillar, and rear window.

And while the sixth-generation Mustang became more international, the seventh-generation returns to its American roots to offer a modern interpretation of a classic. That means new, triple-bar headlights with LED technology to match the taillights and dramatic rear angles that lower and act like a spoiler, making the car appear wider even though the proportions are largely unchanged.
And for the first time, Mustang EcoBoost wears a completely unique front-end design compared to the GT. The changes override the marked network entries. The faux lower outer grille vents on the regular Mustang are larger on the GT as one side has been closed for aero and the other is fully functional. Air also flows through the GT’s high-gloss black hood extractor.

The roofline is designed to ensure drivers can enter and exit without removing their helmet on the track. The convertible features an insulated fabric roof with a single-handle latch and a one-touch button for opening and closing.

There are two new paint colors among the palette of 11 colors on offer: Splash Yellow and Vapor Blue, as well as new colors for stripes, Brembo brake calipers and seatbelts. A number of skin change packs allow for further customization of the look. Wheels range in size from 17-inch to 19-inch on the GT, with 20-inch wheels optional. Brembo brake calipers can be chosen in black, red or blue.
The convertible version also returns with one-touch activation of the insulated soft top. A single-handle center latch keeps things simple, and the compact design helps maximize space by not encroaching too much on the trunk. The independent rear suspension contributes to “class-leading trunk space that can accommodate up to two golf bags.”

The new Mustang Design Series adds factory-preset customizations. Like the Desing Series Appearance Bronze Appearance Pack which is the only offering at the moment, the pack gives you aggressive Bronze Ingots with Bronze badges. It is an option available on EcoBoost and GT models.
It hasn’t changed much and it still speaks volumes about its name: it’s the Ford Mustang with its long hood, short decklid and tapering roof. Although the four- and eight-cylinder engines are similar to today’s engines, they are almost entirely new; Added some cool tricks, more technology, and over-the-air (internet) updates made possible by its new electrical architecture.
A unique front fascia for every 2024 Ford Mustang
Ford attributes each model to a specific feature it calls “the most attractive design with timeless Mustang cues.” There are hints of a ’70s Mustang in the angled front fascia, and the shape seems to incorporate some of the foxbody silhouette. However, the influence of the previous sixth-generation Mustang still shows through in the new design, which left us a little disappointed. The rear end is also reminiscent of the Hyundai Elantra N’s derriere.
Aside from the design, you’ll also be drawn to the new Tri-Bar LED headlamps, a cool touch that seems to be inspired by the iconic tri-bar taillights that have been a mainstay of Mustang design for generations. Most notably, every Mustang now has a truly unique front fascia. GT models naturally get larger, more aggressive grille vents for better airflow. Also included are new hood vents and a redesigned front splitter.
Interior cabin design of the 2024 Ford Mustang
Inside, the car now has a customizable 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster with 3D animation software from Unreal Engine. Instead of the traditional light blue and light gray tones, the current cabin has a coppery look like the Mustang Mach-E.

“It’s time to change the interior design,” says Ricardo Garcia, Director of Interior Design, and we elicited customer feedback on what ideas they needed over a three-year period, which led us to what was new, to build a more open cockpit.
2024 Ford Mustang car seats
Cloth upholstery with optional micro-suede vinyl inserts and black seat belts was fitted as standard, but Premium models were upgraded with premium stitching. The EcoBoost model gets the brand’s ActiveX synthetic leather with different color options, while the GT models get leather seat inserts. And in general the more you spend, the better your cabin.

So is your choice of color for the signature stitching and asymmetrical colored stripe on the seat belts. A Bang and Olufsen sound setting is also available if you tire of the internal combustion noise, while Power-Up software updates will keep the infotainment system including Apple Play, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa all equipped as fresh as possible. A new flat-bottom steering wheel is standard on all models and is heavier; A full leather steering wheel is also available.
Infotainment system in the 2024 Ford Mustang
The Sync4-powered infotainment system has fewer physical buttons because more functions are controlled via the screen. The screens are a true departure for the Ford Mustang, with a 12.4-inch screen directly in front of the driver and a central 13.2-inch screen angled towards the driver, both screens housed under a single pane of glass that is standard on most models. It’s a single piece of glass that connects the two and adds a touch of sophistication.
The graphics on both Mustang screens are clear and plentiful, and change with the selected driving mode. It’s also highly customizable, and finally, there’s media storage with a flat wireless charging pad, two USB ports, and an angled slot for the phone. Upgraded seats come in cloth, faux or natural leather, and the cabin features laser-graining that mimics carbon fiber. The high-end sound system is Bang & Olufsen, and the Mustang is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Amazon Alexa built in for voice commands.
Driver assistance features in the 2024 Ford Mustang
Ford CoPilot360 driver aids include:
- Recognize the speed sign
- Intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop and go
- lane positioning assistant, and escape steering assistant
- Reverse brake assist.
- Active Pothole Mitigation, which “continuously monitors suspension, body and steering braking inputs,” and is standard with the Performance Package, adjusting the suspension as needed.
Updated 2024 Ford Mustang engine
The base 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 turbocharger has been updated to reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency. We don’t have specs yet, but the engineers told us the power won’t be reduced, which means it should still crank out at least 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. This fourth-generation engine is known as the MPC (Modular Power Cylinder) engine and makes its debut in the Mustang. There is also a 2.0-liter MPC engine that will power the 2023 Lincoln Corsair and 2023 Ford Escape.

The 2024 Ford Mustang retained the 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine as it is after undergoing its fourth update, and this engine is also present in the 2022 Ford F-150 pickup with the ability to deactivate the cylinder to improve fuel economy. Fuel Saver engineers didn’t want to implement this system in the Ford Mustang because it makes the engine run too long, hurts filling, and reduces the engine’s redline.
For the Mustang, the updated V-8 has a new steel oil pan and dual air intake box. The dual cold air intake will allow the throttle body to double the airflow to create the most powerful GT ever made. This simply means that it will exceed 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.
And the transmission in the 2024 Ford Mustang
Can we really talk about engines without gearboxes? It looks wrong. The 2024 Mustang gets three of them — two standard six-speed manual transmissions and a 10-speed automatic. Both transmissions are relays, with the Getrag unit offered on GT models.

While the Dark Horse model upgrades to the Tremec transmission first introduced on the Shelby GT350 and is offered at Mach 1. The automatic is a 10-speed familiar to Ford, introduced with the 2018 Mustang’s muscled-in with new control electronics. Notably, it’s the only transmission offered with the EcoBoost, as the Mustang’s four-cylinder manual had a fairly low intake.
The exhaust system of the 2024 Ford Mustang
The 2024 Ford Mustang still has the active exhaust that breathes that signature Mustang sound, but adds a Quiet Mode to keep your neighbors happy.
Steering in the 2024 Ford Mustang
Engineers say the steering is noticeably more precise with a new rack and faster steering ratio, while the new car’s premium MagneRide electronic adaptive shocks have been tuned and will be offered with the Performance Package. Optional performance packages are available for Mustang GT and EcoBoost models for even more fun on the track. The new Mustang includes Ford Co-Pilot360’s suite of driver-assist safety features. Larger brake rotors and calipers are also included.
2024 Ford Mustang GT engine
The Mustang GT comes with its most powerful naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8, now in its fourth generation, with at least 480 horsepower. The engine features an “innovative dual air intake box and dual throttle body design that helps reduce inductance loss” by increasing air flow rates.
Standard, the engine is mated to a six-speed manual with standard Rev Match technology, though you can get a 10-speed automatic transmission from Ford. This can almost instantly reconfigure the shift patterns to match whichever of the six pre-configured driving modes you might be in.
New technologies in the 2024 Ford Mustang
There are two unique features to delight buyers, starting with the new electronic drift brake developed with the help of professional developer Vaughn Gittin Jr. It usually behaves like a regular electric parking brake until you activate the “Drift Brake” button in Track mode, which turns off traction (where you can choose Traction Off or Advanced Traction Off). Applying this brake then causes the ABS unit to apply the rear brake only hydraulically, in proportion to the movement of the brake handle.

The standard electronic drift brake looks like a traditional mechanical handbrake. Developer Cetin said the technology would provide instant and effortless locking, while hydraulic actuation would be much faster than an electric actuator closing a separate parking brake caliper. Drift brakes come with the Performance package on all Mustang models. It is the result of a lot of engineering work.
Another new feature: the keychain not only starts the car, it can accelerate it. Ford calls it the Remote Rev feature, a trick that’s only available with the automatic transmission (which has limited engine stop/start).
Goodbye Ford Mustang 2024 um hello
Ford believes the sports car segment must live on, and seems to like the idea of having a monopoly when out of the competition. And it’s freaking out that Dodge will stop producing the current gasoline-powered Charger and Challenger in 2023 (though we’ve heard the next versions won’t be electric-only), and the current Chevrolet Camaro is only a few years away.

“Doing this car at this time is a victory in itself,” says Krenz. “While others say goodbye, we say hello.” Krenz added, “Mustang makes possible an electric vehicle like the Mach-E. The Mach-E will carry the volume torch forward, but ultimately, it makes it possible for the pony car Mustang to continue serving enthusiasts. And the engineer personally hopes that the timeless Mustang silhouette will live on.

We don’t know what to expect for the eighth-generation Mustang — it will probably be a pure electric car, so the seventh-generation is likely the last chance for fans to take it back to the old school. And the latest Ford Mustang is expected to have a long life. And it must be many years before Bill Ford has to wipe away a tear.
Options and add-ons for the 2024 Ford Mustang
GT and EcoBoost models can be had with the optional Performance Package, which includes:
- add front tower support,
- wider rear wheels and tires,
- limited-slip differential gears
- Optional active MagneRide suspension
- Bigger Brembo brakes. In the foreground
The discs measure 390mm, while the rears have been upgraded to 355mm. And with the GT Performance Package, stopping power is further enhanced by new brake ducts and a standard auxiliary engine cooler. The Performance Package can be further enhanced with optional Recaro sports seats and an active exhaust system.
Ford simulates airplanes with the cabin of the 2024 Mustang
With its “jet-inspired digital cockpit,” which includes roof-mounted USB ports, Ford is clearly listening to buyers’ demands. The same can be said of the electronic drift brake and Rev Remote function. These are the things Mustang buyers want.

And we believe this will be a huge hit that will be reflected in sales again. Sure, the design will take some time to grow on some people, but it’s not overly difficult, and Ford has done a good job of updating the basic shape that’s been around for nearly 60 years and is still going strong today. It became difficult to wait to see her and drive her. The price remains, which has not been disclosed yet.
