The British MG brand (MG), a subsidiary of Chinese SAIC Motors, presented a teaser look at its upcoming new car, the MG 7 2023 for the Chinese market, before its expected launch on the 17th of August.
Pictures of the new car were leaked earlier when it was seen testing in public, but new leaked images from the video posted by SAIC give us a better look at the car.
It is one of the brand’s new Black Label series, which falls under the four-door mid-size sedan segment.
This is the second generation of the car, as the first generation of the MG7 came out from 2007 to 2013.

All-new MG 7 2023 look before its official launch
- Belonging to compact sedan models, it has a rugged look, a sharp sporty design, ample interior space and updated bases with superior sporty performance.
- It is the largest sedan of the Chinese brand and the big sister of the flagship MG6 sedan, competing with the Chevrolet Malibu and Volkswagen Passat among others.
- It looks great and impressive, as it has a sporty, low-end design that is close to the ground and offers a family interior thanks to its large dimensions.
- In terms of dimensions, the MG 7 is about the same size as the mid-size Audi A5 Sportback.
- It is expected to reach the Arab Gulf markets after its global launch, and it may be launched in European markets if a fully electric version of the car is available.
MG 7 2023 Specifications
EXTERIOR DESIGN
- As shown in the leaked images, the new MG 7 adopts MG’s latest design language, which was first seen in the MG 4 electric hatchback, with a stylish European body and some strong touches.
- It has a sharp front end dominated by a massive and wide grille, similar to the smaller MG5’s grille, a long hood and prominent shoulders, with an appearance closer to European vehicles, such as the Audi A7.
- As well as the low ground clearance and sharp-looking LED headlights, there are red accents under the grille.
- It rests on large 19″ or 20″ sport-style wheels, painted matte gray.
- The photos show the rear of the car, which features wide LED lighting units connected together by an Audi A7 LED light strip with a wide rear bumper, and 4 large exhaust outlets.
- It is also crowned with an active rear spoiler that extends at high speeds on the tailgate, similar to the Porsche Panamera.

Interior Design
- MG has not shown the new car’s interior yet, during the photos shared, where it focused on the exterior design only.
- We can’t tell what’s inside, however, as it’s expected to include plenty of cutting-edge technologies such as a large central infotainment display and digital instrument cluster, which evoke those found in the MG 4 and MG 5 Scorpio.
mechanical specifications
- The brand has not yet provided technical specifications, but expectations indicate that the new MG 7 will be offered with two engine options:
- The first option is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 185 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque.
- The engine is mated to a 7-speed DCT WET dual-clutch automatic transmission, with power being sent exclusively to the front wheels.
- The new MG 7 is also available with a second option, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger, producing 254 horsepower and 405 Nm of torque, mated to a ZF 9-speed automatic transmission.
- It is also expected that PHEV hybrid versions will be developed alongside the main gasoline class.
