You can always buy a new battery for your car, and you can save by keeping it from rust. So that your car does not break down due to a simple thing you neglected to do, here are in a few steps how to take care of its battery.
- Make sure that the vehicle engine is turned off before starting the cleaning process so that no battery cables are damaged.
- Check the location of the battery terminals or the nuts, if they are next to the battery you will need an 8 mm wrench, if they are on the surface you will need a screwdriver between 10 and 13 mm to separate the terminals and the cable wires.
- Make sure that there are no cracks in the battery from which acid liquid may leak. If you find a crack, change the battery.
- Check the cables and clips, if any damage or rips are found, replace the battery.
- Mix 15 milliliters of baking soda with 250 milliliters of water, then put an old toothbrush with the mixture and use it to clean the battery from corrosion and rust.
- Thoroughly clean the battery clamps and nuts, and dip the toothbrush into the mixture frequently.
- Wash the battery terminals and nuts with cold water and make sure that there is no rust, then dry the battery with a clean cloth.
- Anoint the battery nuts and ends with petroleum oil or any product intended for this process.
- Finally, re-install the cables after the cleaning process is complete.
- If you are in a hurry, you can clean the car nuts by pouring a soft drink over them, then leave them for two minutes to dry and then wash them with water again.
