Electric vehicle sales rise to 19% of the market share in Europe

Tesla tops the electric car sales throne, Renault Zoe is the runner-up, while the silver for two-model Volkswagen and Fiat makes leaps

European electric car sales have continued to climb rapidly, with over 237,000 registrations in June and over a million registrations as of this writing. Car sales in the Old Continent have been halving, up +157% year-on-year.

On the other hand, the percentage of electric car sales increased in the last month to control 19% of the total car market sales by (10% full electric cars / 5% hybrid BEVs), which means an increase in the proportion of hybrid car sales to 16%.

Growth came in both electric and hybrid electric , but BEVs were well represented, having had their second best month ever, since just December.

It is worth noting that hybrid cars have previously been severely affected by the CO2 compliance pre-registration fever. The Tesla Model 3 made a huge leap in sales at the end of the first quarter, and it topped the list of sales, and on the other hand, the increasing boost in BEV hybrid cars from the Volkswagen Group and the entry into the market of Renault ZOE also helped drive sales.

The best-selling models in the electric car market

Tesla Model 3

Tesla in China

The sports sedan saw another peak month in electric car sales, with 26,178 deliveries in June, its best-ever performance in Europe, and the second-best performance ever in the electric car market, followed by the Volkswagen AD4 with a purchase record. That’s 28,110 units that Volkswagen has registered (or should say pre-registered) since last December.

Going forward, it will be interesting to see if the Model 3 will be affected by the arrival of its younger and older brother, the Tesla Model Y. For the month of June, the Tesla Model 3 had a four-digit score, such as 5,500 deliveries in the Kingdom the United States, 5,001 in France, and 4,462 in Germany, with Norway (3,196) and Switzerland (1,296).

Renault Zoe is the runner-up for electric cars

Renault ZOE ranked second in electric vehicle sales in the European market, with 8,244 units delivered in June, showing that the French hatchback is making a comeback. This is her best result this year. We expect this result to improve in the second half of the year, and possibly already in September.

But in any case, the movement of the main markets in June was as usual, with France in the lead (3,349 units), followed by Germany in second place (2,251 units), and the United Kingdom in third place (901 units).

Volkswagen ID.3

VW ID.3 1.jpg

The German hatchback is slowly coming back to the fore, too, with 7,101 deliveries last month, its best result of 2021. We expect it to make a regular presence on the electric car sales platform for the remainder of the year, perhaps even winning a couple of our monthly bestseller titles. . … Regarding June, ID.3 sales performance was the domestic market as the main source, with Germany registering 2,448 registrations. It was followed by the United Kingdom in second place (1,510 units) and France in third place (722 units).

Volkswagen ID.4

In fourth place in the market for electric car sales sits the Volkswagen ID.4 – Influenced by the swirl of current hottest trends (electric, hybrid and compact cars), we expect a lot from the new Volkswagen, especially considering that its brother ID.3 did not achieve what Volkswagen had hoped. Big golf. …

In June, the Volkswagen crossover had 6,619 registrations. In terms of last month’s performance, while ID.3 performed well across Europe, although its three main markets are the current big three (Germany, France and the UK, when sales are factored in, the three countries taken together make up the 60% of the electric car market in Europe,

Germany alone is responsible for 30% of the main markets for ID.4, whose sales are characterized by a Scandinavian character, while Sweden acquired (1,229 units), which is the second best crossover market, and Norway recognized it (872 units), which is the third best crossover market, after Germany only (1710).

Ford Kuga PHEV

Ford’s humble compact crossover goes from strength to strength, and this time it managed to beat the Skoda Enyaq and take its place at number five of the best electric car sales, with 6,407 records. This allowed it to be the best selling PHEV by a wide margin, as the runner-up in the PHEV race finished around 2,500 units behind. in the last month,

The top markets for the Ford model were Germany (2,254 units) and the United Kingdom (1,200 units). And the lacrosse again scored an impressive performance in Denmark, with 686 records. (Does anyone know why this model is so popular in Denmark?!?) Looking at the remaining June table, one must highlight the Fiat 500e that finished in seventh place, thanks to 5,065 records, and is still at the top of the table even right Now. Although it is out of the top five, now with the full list of sales according to cleantechnica.

But the Skoda Enyaq can’t really complain, having had a previous record month in sales, this time with 6,237 units, sitting in the 170-unit floor behind the #5 Ford Kuga PHEV. I expect the Volkswagen crossover will continue to collect more and climb the ranks. Top 5 electric car sales in the near future.

The Kia Niro EV #9 had its best result since last September, with a score of 4,301, proving that the Korean crossover can still run its best. At number 11 in electric vehicle sales in Europe, we have the Audi A3 PHEV, with 3,939 records set. She was the runner-up in the June PHEV race,

But the luxury hatchback wasn’t the only VW model to shine in the second half of the table, as the Cupra Formentor PHEV sports crossover debuted in the top 20, reaching 17th, thanks to a record 3,396 units.

The other models to shine in the second half of the table were Renault Twingo EV, No. 18 with 3,189 records, its best result in 2021, while SAIC’s MG ZS EV crossover took No. 16, thanks to a record 3,409 delivery .

Below the top 20, there’s a lot to talk about – from models that receive a second rear wheel drive, like the Opel Corsa E (2,652 records), alongside the BMW eternity i3 (2,313 records, which is the best new car of 2021). And we have many other cars in boost mode, such as the BMW iX3 (2080 records, finally a decent performance), the Mercedes EQA (2,193 records), and the Dacia Spring (1699 records). We had some immediate successes, such as the Hyundai Tucson PHEV (3,008 units in only its second month on the market).

As for the cars that came out of the top 20, two important models are to be mentioned for the first full month, with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 registering 1,102 units, while the attractive Audi Q4 e-tron registered 1,869 records in June, and these will undoubtedly increase The numbers are significant, especially in the case of German SUVs.

Finally, the Ford Mustang Mach-E continued to advance, with 2,991 deliveries, allowing it to beat the competition and win second place in the midsize BEV class last month. We expect the Stang to jump into second place in the runner-up category soon (October?), behind only the mighty Tesla Model 3.

Looking at the 2021 ranking, the main news was the No. 3 Renault ZOE which came close to the No. 2 Volkswagen ID. With only 300 units separating them, we can see the changes here soon.

Another model at risk of losing positions is the plug-in hybrid Volvo XC40 PHEV, which sees rising AD Volkswagen in fourth, and Ford Kuga PHEV getting closer and closer. Indeed, the Swedish SUV is in danger of dropping to sixth place next month, while at the same time hybrid cars are losing their place.

Electric vehicle sales in Europe in the first half of 2021

But the first actual change of situation occurred only in tenth place, as the Kia Niro E rose by one place at the expense of the Peugeot E-208. Behind the French hatchback, we have climber of the month, as the Fiat 500e jumped three places to 12th, not only outpacing its arch rival the Volkswagen E-Up in the city car class, but reaffirming the trend in which the ultimate best-selling models are enjoying in the aggregate market,

Also won were electric cars (Volkswagen Golf / Volkswagen ID.3; Renault Clio / Renault ZOE; Fiat 500 / Fiat 500e). But it also allowed a quick climb for the Italian model to get close to the Stellantis’ top-ranked frontrunners, the Peugeot e-208 and Peugeot 3008 PHEV. And we may see the small Fiat EV become Stellantis’ best seller soon. (say, in August?).

Other models that rose were Renault Captur PHEV and Nissan Leaf, up to 16th and 17th places, respectively, while the Volkswagen Golf PHEV climbed one place, to 19th. Again, although the Volkswagen Group is the original equipment manufacturer of the largest A number of models that live in the twenty positions. Moreover, the sixth model (number 22 Skoda Elegance) is likely to join the top 20 next month, as it has only achieved 1,000 units.

Top auto manufacturers according to electric vehicle sales

In contrast to the model ranking, where driving isn’t really up for debate, in the auto industry rankings, to be more balanced, Volkswagen (11%) has slowly separated itself from BMW No. 2 (9%) and Mercedes No. 3 (9 ) %, down 1 percentage point).

%D9%85%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%B9%D8%A7%D8%AA %D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A7%D8%AA %D8%A7%D9%84%D9%83%D9%87%D8%B1%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%A6%D9%8A%D8%A9 %D9%81%D9%8A %D8%A3%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%A8%D8%A7 1.png

From the podium, Tesla (7%, up two points) jumped to fourth, followed by Volvo No. 5 (7%, down one point). Just under the Swedish manufacturer, Renault manages to finish 6th (6%) to overtake arch-rival Peugeot (also with a 6% share), while Audi is waiting in 8th (with a 6% share, up one point) and may soon overtake the French brands.

Looking at the car group, the Volkswagen Group is far ahead, with a share of 25%, safely above Stylantis (14%). Despite this, the multinational group puts more distance between itself and its closest pursuers, BMW Group (11%) and Daimler (11%, down one point). And it should be noted: The Munich-based group overtook its German rival last month.

And don’t expect the Volkswagen Group to lose its leadership position in Europe anytime soon, as neither Stellantis (enough firepower at the higher end of the market) nor Daimler or BMW (enough firepower at the lower end of the market) puts them in a position They are not allowed to challenge the Volkswagen Galaxy.

As for Tesla’s chances of overtaking the Volkswagen Group in Europe, they are slim. Despite the success of the Model 3, if we add all the MEB models together (ID.3, ID.4, Q4 e-tron, Enyaq), we get more than 72,000 registrations this year, more than the Model 3 total.

The Model Y is sure to pump Tesla into Europe soon, but then we have to remember that the Skoda Enyaq is still in overdrive, the Audi Q4 e-tron has just started, and don’t forget that the Cupra Born is two months away from landing, and In 2022, ID.Buzz and ID.Passat will land on the market. That doesn’t even mention PPE or ID.6 platform models, and the fact that if Volkswagen isn’t smart enough, it will also land in Europe in 2022.

Tesla’s role in Europe is the same as that of Volkswagen Group in North America. You will be happy if you get second place. …But the real battle between these two will not be in North America or Europe, but in China. So far, Tesla (12% stake in China) has the upper hand over the Volkswagen Group (5%). This difference is visible in the global ranking, and I hope you will wait for it soon on Malaki.com….
