Moving the headlights to the lower light assembly is an interesting idea, but those chrome pillars I didn’t like. Looking at the side and the back, the design does not stand out and makes the crossover look somewhat faceless.

The turbocharged engine that powers all Eclipse Cross models provides acceptable acceleration at low speeds. The horsepower rating is lower than it is on many competitors, but the large amount of torque keeps the engine from feeling too weak in most driving situations. The CVT has no gears, hence “speeds”. The company tuned artificial shift points to create the illusion of a rolling transmission, and the overall effect is that the Mitsubishi Eclipse isn’t powerful enough, its sporty looks don’t translate into sporty performance. I felt the transmission resisting its movement. But the car isn’t stiff, and I feel there’s a noticeable body roll in the corners, the steering is lightweight and numb, which makes it good for city environments.

The steering is fairly light at low speeds, so maneuvering in a tight parking lot isn’t good, and at highway speeds, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross suspension does a good job of smoothing out bumps and ruts in the road.

You get a good view of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross thanks to the ride height, and the relatively thin pillars next to the windshield make it easy to spot traffic approaching intersections. However, parking is still relatively easy, especially if you choose a mid-range 3 model with front and rear parking sensors.

The interior is on par with most competitors, but less than the fancy styling of a Peugeot 3008, or the quality of the Skoda Karoq.

The budget-friendly nature of the Eclipse Cross does no good when it comes to quality, with a bit of hard plastic around the cabin and the cabin design itself dated. But the seats for both front and rear passengers are just as good, and there are no notes on their comfort or inconvenience.
