For the third time in its 50-year history, BMW M has dusted off the CSL (Competition, Sports, Lightweight) title to present a high-performance model. First, the first-generation engine for 1973 was the E9 3.0 CSL, then in 2003 the E46 M3 engine was added. Now, the Bavarian performance manufacturer is introducing a limited edition.
Previously saddled with the GTS nomenclature for its high-performance variant, the 2023 BMW M4 CSL celebrates the old nomenclature, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the M series, with the launch of the purest GTS. And the 2023 BMW M4 CSL takes the form of a coupe, and it works with a rear-wheel drive system.

The 2023 BMW M4 CSL dedicates itself to the pursuit of perfection on the track in the same way as the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and Porsche 911 GT3. Limited to just 1,000 units worldwide, and at a price that will make many cry, this is the purest distillation of BMW M’s road to all-terrain prowess.

On the 50th anniversary, the German automaker will place a special BMW Roundel badge on the hood of the all-new BMW M4 CSL. It’s a carbon fiber floor rocket with an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 6.7 lbs. per horsepower.

The bespoke bodywork serves multiple purposes on the exterior of the 2023 BMW M4 CSL. The sculpted bodywork enhances aerodynamic efficiency and reduces weight. The custom-designed front end features a newly modified CFRP grille with fewer slats, contributing to a weight saving of eight pounds on key design elements alone.

Below this, the front spoiler is also designed in carbon, with a carbon hood, roof, trunk lid and side skirts. The front air intakes are also specifically designed to increase airflow, while air curtains in the front bumper direct air towards brake cooling. The headlights feature yellow a-la M5 CS daytime running lights taken from BMW M racing cars, while the main beams use BMW Laserlight technology.
