2022 Audi A4 The perfect compact luxury sports sedan, with a rich interior, lively handling, refined design and plenty of tech features. Since its introduction in the mid-1990s, the 2022 Audi A4 has become an icon of the luxury compact sedan segment. The current generation of it appeared in 2017, and it got updates in 2020. The 2022 Audi A4 aims to compete with the third series from BMW.
All models come with the brand’s signature Quattro all-wheel drive system, and buyers can choose between two turbocharged four-cylinder engines, the more powerful one that produces 261 horsepower. The 2022 Audi A4 expertly blends a fun-to-drive nature with an indulgent ride, offering fans of both sports sedan agility and luxury car demeanor. You can review the Audi A4 prices from here.
Like other Audi models, the cabin of the 2022 Audi A4 is packed with digital displays , including the optional virtual cockpit gauge cluster. Yes, rivals like the Genesis G70 and Mercedes-Benz C-class have more style. The 2022 Audi A4 is a complete package designed to satisfy a wide range of buyers. It has a staid design, but the touchscreen infotainment system isn’t as intuitive as the old tap-controlled version.
New Audi A4 2022
It will move into 2022 without major changes. Limited changes include:
- Available Black Optic and Black Optic Plus packages add a darker exterior design
- A sport suspension is standard on models with the 45 TFSI engine
- Interior choices are integrated into the notch
The exterior design of the 2022 Audi A4
The Audi A4 is an elegant saloon with sharp-looking headlights, a large grille and attractive body details such as the rumpled hood. The Audi S4 and RS4 are more dramatic, but there’s still plenty of variety when it comes to the different trim levels you can choose from the 2022 Audi A4 lineup, ranging from the standard, Technik to the top-of-the-line Vorsprung.
The Audi A4 Technik 1 Series is distinguished by 17-inch alloy wheels with a 10-spoke design. It also has LED headlights and chrome trim around the grille and windows. Even as a base model it is sharp looking.
The Allroad design legacy continues. The long, powerful roof makes it an interesting alternative to an SUV, but its high suspension detracts from the ride quality. But the value equation for the Allroad model pales in comparison to the Audi Q5, which offers more practicality at a lower entry price.
Powertrain for the 2022 Audi A4
The Audi A4 is offered in two powertrains: 40 and 45. Both are powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 12-volt hybrid system and all-wheel drive. The 40 group makes 201 horsepower while the 45 group makes 261 horsepower. Although we like the six-speed transmission, the seven-speed automatic is the only transmission.
Most Audi A4 engines come with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It can be a little slow getting down one or two gears, but once you speed it up it squeaks through every gear change quickly. The quattro models can launch from the T-cross without turning the wheel, even in greasy, slippery conditions.
Driving impressions of the 2022 Audi A4
The A4 45 we drove sprinted to 60mph in a brisk 4.8 seconds, its automatic gears changing quickly and smoothly. Precise steering and well-controlled body movements combine to deliver solid road holding.
Normally, cars with nimble responses require sacrifices in ride quality, but the 2022 Audi A4 manages to soak up bumpy roads with confidence. Driving feel is very important in this sedan with sporty undertones, and the 2022 Audi A4’s sound is muted at low speeds and on the highway. Yet, as if by magic, the steering becomes nicely continuous as you push the car on twisty roads.
The six-speed manual gearbox is precise, light and easy to use, with an easy-to-control clutch. The seven-speed S tronic automatic clicks gears up and down almost imperceptibly but can be a bit jerky at park speeds.
Suspension and ride comfort of the 2022 Audi A4
The A4 comes in three suspension options, depending on the trim level you want, but the general rule of thumb is that it’s a more comfortable car than the equivalent BMW 3 Series.
The Technik and Sport Edition models have our favorite Dynamic Comfort setting. This puts comfort first, especially with the default 17-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. They deal very effectively with all kinds of lumps and bumps, and the body movements are very well controlled over the dips, peaks and bumps. while larger wheels tend to make for a harsher ride.
The S line and Black Edition models come with a sport suspension as standard. With a stiffer, lower-slung setup, which sharpens handling at the expense of comfort, resulting in less vibration at lower speeds.
Finally, there’s the Adaptive Sport Suspension, it’s the best of both worlds. It combines the sport suspension’s lower, stiffer settings with a selectable softer Comfort mode, and gives you the choice of a smoother or stiffer ride. However, it is a suspension that is only available with the top-spec Vorsprung.
Handling and stability of the 2022 Audi A4
All versions of the 2022 Audi A4 handle safely and predictably. It has precise steering, stable performance and great stability when taking curves. It grips the road very well. Models equipped with the stiffer sport (or adaptive sport) suspension feel even more nimble, staying flatter around turns and changing direction with added enthusiasm.
Despite the slight body lean, we stick with the softer Dynamic Comfort Suspension that’s standard on Technik and Sport Edition models. It offers a better balance between ride and handling, and the more powerful 2022 Audi A4s with front-wheel drive can struggle for traction if you put your foot on the road exiting a corner when the road is wet.
Noise and vibration in the 2022 Audi A4
The A4 is better than its competitors at suppressing wind noise, and you’ll only hear the occasional faint rumble from the suspension. Road noise is very quiet, try to avoid the larger tire options if you want to maximize this advantage.
Fuel consumption in the 2022 Audi A4
The 2022 Audi A4 sedan is expected to get around 25 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway. And the model we ran on our 75-mph highway for fuel economy delivered 33 mpg.
Interior cabin design of the 2022 Audi A4
The cabin of the modern-looking 2022 Audi A4 does a good job of balancing form and function with high-quality materials and easily accessible tech features. As in most Audi cars, the dashboard design is clean and simple, a piece of modern art. Most of the 2022 Audi A4’s buttons and switches are exactly where you want them and feel substantial to use.
The rear seat is among the most spacious in its class, and features beautifully shaped cushions. Overall, the 2022 Audi A4 is adequate, but not spacious. The A4 Allroad offers plenty of storage space. The rear seat of the A4 can be folded into a useful 40/20/40 split, to easily accommodate longer items such as skis. But we were disappointed by the 2022 Audi A4’s small storage bins.
Driving position and dashboard in the 2022 Audi A4
You won’t have any problems getting comfortable in the Audi A4. Wide adjustments for the seat and steering wheel, such as four-way electric lumbar adjustment, well-bolstered sports seats make you safer around turns and corners. They are comfortable on the long journey, and a comfortable adjustable center armrest accompanies you.
However, there are some problems. The pedals are upside down to the right and there is a bulge under your left foot. It’s quite obvious and it’s not the best among the competition, and the Volvo S60 is the car with the best driving modes.
The small dashboard in the 2022 Audi A4 is simple and easy to use, with large buttons and knobs for operating key functions, including the climate controls. All models get the excellent Audi Virtual Cockpit system as standard. It replaces the dials with a 12.3-inch digital display that you control from the steering wheel buttons.
Vision and sensors in the 2022 Audi A4
Forward visibility from the Audi A4 is good but over-the-shoulder visibility could be better (something that applies to many saloons, to be fair). Fortunately, all models come with front and rear parking sensors, as well as a rearview camera, which comes in handy when maneuvering in tight spaces. You get an advanced 360 camera only on the Vorsprung model.
All A4 cars come with bright LED headlights, and the Vorsprung model has Adaptive LED headlights. It adjusts its main beams to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers, and it gives you better visibility. They are very good but unfortunately they are not available in the lower categories.
Interior quality of the 2022 Audi A4
The interior of the 2022 Audi A4 is beautifully designed with high-quality materials. Harder plastics are few and far between and almost everything else has a soft-touch finish. Metal or real wood veneers (depending on trim level) adorn the instrument panel and center console, and combine with well-dipped switches to create an upscale atmosphere.
The general level of fit and finish is a notch or two higher than a lot of other cars in this class, with only the 3 Series coming close. It’s one of the key areas that differentiates the 2022 Audi A4 from less-premium competitors, such as the Skoda Superb.
Audi A4 2022 car seats
Like most of its competitors, the 2022 Audi A4 comes with foldable rear seats as standard, and unlike many cars, its rear seats are divided into comfortable 40/20/40 sections, meaning the center backrest can be folded down to load long items.
The front passenger seat is height adjustable and four-way adjustable lumbar support comes standard on all models.
Satellite navigation and infotainment systems in the 2022 Audi A4
Every A4 gets Audi’s impressive MMI infotainment system with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The graphics are sharp, the screen is responsive and the menus are quick to get used to. We still prefer the BMW iDrive system in the 3 Series as it’s a less distracting way to make changes while you’re on the road.
The 2022 Audi A4 gets plenty of gadgets as standard. This includes:
- Apple CarPlay / Android Auto smartphone mirroring,
- Integrated satellite navigation
- Online features
- Voice activation
- Two USB jacks on the front and eight stereo speakers.
Equipment, options and extras for the 2022 Audi A4
The lower-end Audi A4 Technik model gets you 17-inch alloy wheels, power-folding door mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated front seats, front and rear climate control, cruise control, keyless start, parking aids, LED headlights and more. Information and entertainment.
However, we choose the Sport version, it is perfect. It adds 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, privacy glass, sportier front seats and a more aggressive look, but retains the Dynamic Comfort Suspension for a more agile ride than the S line.
The S line has Alcantara leather seats and 19-inch alloys. The Black Edition adds black design details. The Vorsprung model is pricey and comes with just about everything, including adaptive cruise control, heated rear seats, Nappa leather, a sunroof and keyless entry.
The reliability of the 2022 Audi A4
The diesel-powered 2022 Audi A4 performed poorly in the executive car segment in 2021, finishing fourth from bottom in the reliability survey.
Audi as a brand ranked 18th out of 3 manufacturers in the survey. This is lower than BMW but higher than Mercedes and Jaguar.

Thatcham awarded the 2022 Audi A4 five stars for theft-resistance and four stars for break-in protection. And the A4 was awarded five stars out of five by Euro NCAP for its ability to protect occupants in the event of an accident.
Examining the results in more detail, we found that it’s not as good at protecting adults as the 3 Series and Jaguar XE, but it does a slightly better job of keeping kids safe.

The A4 has many driver-assistance features, but they’re limited to more expensive upper trim levels. And features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control, for example, are only available on pricier Premium Plus and Prestige trim levels. Key safety features include:

Audi A4 2022 maintenance and warranty costs
The A4 comes with a three-year, 60,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty, which includes roadside assistance. For a reasonable cost, you can extend that for up to five years or 90,000 miles. Audi’s warranty coverage is very average among luxury brands, and they don’t offer free scheduled maintenance coverage, unlike BMW. And guarantee it as follows:
- The limited warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles
