BMW has officially unveiled the new version of the 2023 M2 model (BMW M2 2023), which is the last all-new BMW M without hybrid or electric power.
Representing the smallest of the German BMW M cars, the second generation of the M2 has undergone a major overhaul in line with its larger siblings, the M3 and M4, during which it has received new aesthetic and technical updates.
The updated model of the BMW M2 features a bold new look, more power than any previous generation of the M2, an advanced set of technologies, and manual and automatic transmissions, which we will get to know during this report.

The all-new BMW M2 2023
- It is a mid-size coupe, which received significant improvements to the exterior design, with a bold new design language with a powerful powertrain with a six-cylinder twin-turbo engine, and a new exterior color.
- It is scheduled to be launched in showrooms in April next year, to compete directly with the Porsche 718 Cayman and Audi RS3.
- With regard to external measurements, the new car has become larger compared to the previous generation, with a new length of 4.5 meters, width of 1.8 meters, and height of 1.4 meters, and the car weighs about 1720 kg, which is about 150 kg heavier than the previous generation.
- After an increase in length by 4.1 inches, the car has increased in width by 1.3 inches, and has become 0.3 inches lower from the ground than its predecessor, and the wheelbase has been lengthened by 2.1 inches.
- The 2023 BMW M2 will be manufactured at the BMW plant in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, where it will be exported to global markets.
Exterior design
- The car got a more frank and aggressive exterior design than its predecessor, after it abandoned the traditional conservative design with some carbon touches that distinguish it from the rest of the BMW lineup.
- The most obvious change is seen in the all-new, bold front end with BMW’s frameless double kidney grille and three-section front air intakes. These intakes provide improved cooling for the engines and brakes.
- It features small black air intakes in the corner of the headlights, the front and rear wheel arches noticeably wider than the standard car, M-segment signature wing mirror caps are present, and a carbon fiber roof is available as an option.
- Plus the features that come with the M Performance package give the car an aggressive look.
- The rear is distinguished by a bold, more muscular bumper, a bolder diffuser and a prominent carbon fiber rear diffuser, a rear spoiler mounted on the boot lid with a quad exhaust system, and a roof-mounted spoiler for increased downforce can be optionally available.
- The German coupe rides as standard on 19-inch front, 20-inch black M light-alloy wheels (with 275/35 front and 285/30 rear) as standard, six-piston front and single-piston steel disc brakes in blue metallic at the rear , or red.
- In addition to the availability of a distinguished group of exterior color options with five options, including; Alpine White, Sapphire Metallic, Brooklyn Gray Metallic, Toronto Red Metallic, and New Zandvoort Blue.
Interior Design
- There isn’t much change inside the cabin, as it retains the driver-oriented focus, the only update being carbon fiber on the steering wheel as well as on the center console and dashboard that make the interior plusher and more sophisticated.
- The interior of the M2 will feature newly designed electrically adjustable leather M sport seats with illuminated M headrest logo.
- BMW will offer new lightweight M Carbon seats as an option for the first time, which reduce weight by 24 lb (10.8 kg) from the standard seats thanks to cut-outs in the side bolsters and head restraints.
- As part of the M Race Track Carbon package, which also includes the M Carbon roof that reduces the car’s weight and carbon fiber interior accents.
- On the infotainment side, the curved dashboard is fitted as standard, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment in a single curved panel, both powered by unique M displays with driving performance readouts.
- Standard features include tri-zone climate control, satellite navigation, ambient lighting, and wireless charging for mobile phones among many others.

Security and safety systems
- In terms of safety, the Bavarian manufacturer was keen to provide its car with the latest safety and driver assistance systems, represented by autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, and parking sensors. Adaptive cruise control and lane positioning assistance are optional.
Mechanical specifications
- Power in the BMW M2 is provided by a version of the BMW S58 3-litre (3000 cc) in-line I6 petrol engine with twin turbo from the M3 and M4, without any electric assistance.
- It is tuned to develop 453 PS (338 kW) and 550 Nm of torque, an increase of 48 PS over the previous generation.
- All are sent to the rear wheels only, through a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, and this new car can also be ordered optionally with an 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission.
- It accelerates from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds with the standard six-speed manual transmission, and the automatic transmission takes 3.9 seconds.
- Its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h and increases to 283 km/h with the optional M Driver’s Package.
- Other chassis highlights include the Adaptive M suspension, active M-section differential and electronically locking rear differential, sport variable-ratio steering and a revamped suspension with more aluminum components.
The price of the all-new BMW M2 2023
- The international launch of the BMW M2 2023 in the market is scheduled for the beginning of next year, as its price will start from 63,195 thousand US dollar.
