Like all modern BMWs, the 2 Series allows the driver to configure different aspects of the way they drive. The Eco Pro mode slows down all responses, while the Normal mode, as the name suggests, is fairly normal, except that it calibrates the gearbox to make it highly optimized.
Sport mode makes it more responsive, without holding the gears for as long as when you knock on the gear lever in Sport mode. That makes throttle response more careful, makes some synthetic engine noises, increases steering weight and makes the brakes more touching.
All these aspects can be reversed in Sport Individual mode, with the exception of the grip brake. That’s frustrating, because the gearbox is at its best in Sport mode and the artificial noise of the engine adds to the driving experience, making the car not look like an SUV, and making it look a bit like an old Ford V4 with a fruity tone.
Steering, suspension and ride comfort in the 2022 BMW 2 Series
So the 2022 BMW 2 Series 220i offers the distinctive chassis balance provided by the rear-wheel drive. It also has more corner fun in the coupe.
