After the increase in car prices, many residents abroad are looking for ways to bring their cars permanently into Egypt and be exempted from customs duties.
Regarding the conditions for entering cars residing abroad into Egypt, here are the following lines:
- The citizen must stay abroad for a period of not less than nine months.
- The vehicle must be owned and registered in the same model year.
- That the buyer is the first owner of this car.
- It is necessary to obtain a “To Whom It May Concern” certificate from the Traffic Department in which the vehicle is registered. This certificate includes the date of registration and the vehicle’s data in detail, then authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then the Egyptian embassy or consulate
- There are no restrictions on buying, owning and registering cars at the beginning of the year or at the end of the year as long as the purchase and registration took place in the same model year.
- To enjoy the customs discount for the first year (10%), purchase and registration must take place before 1/10 of the same model year.
- Cars that have been manufactured for ten years, including the model year, are not licensed.
