A quick review of the 2023 Peugeot 408, which brings the French manufacturer back to the glories of the 504 with an SUV that wears the mantle of a coupe.
The new Peugeot 408 2023 has arrived, the first coupe model with SUV components for the French brand, with which the French manufacturer aims to expand the range of its brand, and the new car between the Peugeot 508 family car and the mid-size Peugeot 3008 SUV. As a five-door high with a large tailgate hatchback, Peugeot says the 408 focuses on practicality and elegance, and is the first car of its kind on the market.

Peugeot has been using the “408” moniker since 2010 in China for a sedan version based on the 308 hatchback platform. It received a comprehensive update this year in the Chinese Republic, but it is not the car shown in the adjacent photos. Confusingly, the painting is now being repurposed in the global market with a different model. Officially classified as a dynamic fastback, the Peugeot 408 is destined for Europe with an unconventional look similar to the Citroën C5 X.
The 2023 Peugeot 408 rides on the latest iteration of Stellantis’ EMP2 platform, and shares the same platform as the Peugeot 308 hatchback, but Peugeot argues it is a more complex product and positioned “at the top of the C segment”.
