Finally, the latest 2022 Opel Mokka has arrived which is a really interesting little SUV. Its sharp appearance will appeal to Volkswagen T-Roc and Ford Puma customers, while reasonable operating costs will not affect your bank account either.
The 2022 Opel Mokka is a welcome update, compared to the old version. Of course, it can’t be considered one of the best small crossovers, but it has sold in huge numbers. And in its recent version this year, the Mokka offers a raised seating position, and this latest 2022 Mokka has been modified under the leadership of the new owner of Opel/Vauxhall and we will review all the changes together, let’s find out together in our review of the 2022 Opel Mokka.
Whether you already own an Opel Mokka or are considering buying one for the first time, there’s a lot more to discuss in this review. before you decide to buy.
The right 2022 Opel Mokka for you

If you are looking for a comfortable small SUV that is cheap to run, the 2022 Opel Mokka is a great choice. They are very elegant, and many buyers are chasing after them, which is reflected in their huge sales volume. We think the base SE is good, but the sporty SRi adds a number of attractive features. The high-spec Elite Nav, Ultimate Nav and First Edition models are the most preferred.
Competitors to the 2022 Opel Mokka
The small SUV market is full of very good cars. You should also consider the SEAT Arona and Skoda Kamiq, while the Ford Puma is a sporty option that’s good value for money.
The Hyundai Kona is a reliable alternative that will be cheap to run, just like the new Hyundai Bayon. The Peugeot 2008 shares its platform with the Mokka, but is a slightly more sophisticated option, while the Citroen C3 Aircross is a comfortable alternative. Renault Captur and Nissan Juke, not to mention Opel’s Crossland too. An enthusiastic Ford Puma, a spacious Skoda Kamiq, and a comfortable Volkswagen T-Roc, rival those of the 2022 Opel Mokka.
The exterior design of the Opel Mokka 2022

The 2022 Opel Mokka shares one platform with the Citroen C4 and Peugeot 2008, and it is not wrong to call it one of its French counterparts. However, the new front end looks a lot like the “Vizor” (which Opel will introduce soon), the new face of the Opel Mokka. Literally. A vizor-like front end and sharply creased sides characterize every new Opel range, and they all resemble Peugeot-ified cars.
It is reported that Peugeot-Citroen bought Opel Vauxhall in 2019, and instead of recycling GM rigs, the new Opel is based on French pallets. It gave us a wonderful design. Indeed , Opel has managed to deliver a car that looks new and modern without looking overdone , proving to the likes of BMW, Audi, and even Ford that you don’t need to put a massive grille in the front of a car to accentuate its appearance.
Interior design of the Opel Mokka 2022
Opel has made a real effort to give the 2022 Mokka a distinctive interior. More interesting than the old version, the cabin is a more digital place than other Opel cars. The elegant Pure Panel dashboard features two screens, designed to reduce the need for multiple buttons and controls, to improve your ability to focus on the road. It’s a very familiar design in the automotive world today, but it doesn’t do well in practice.
Dashboard and driving mode of the Opel Mokka 2022
The dashboard of the 2022 Opel Mokka is a mixture of modern, angular design and vintage buttons, while the rest of the interior varies by category. The more expensive models, with their colored inserts and chrome inserts, look almost perfect, but the same can’t be said for the billy-basic SE. And both petrol and electric versions share pretty much every component.

The steering wheel is slim-rimmed in a regular size, behind it is a clear, easy-to-read and less elegant display. You’ll find two rectangular screens in a sea of glossy black plastic. I didn’t like some of the plastics which were not enough to make the look, but they hold together and are easy to work with. I liked the 12 inch touch screen, it’s more elegant than the Peugeot and Citroen screens. And working with phone systems, it’s more fun and interesting than the Ford Puma, Skoda Kamiq or VW T-Cross.
Seating in the 2022 Mocha is higher than the Corsa, while the semi-horizontal hood helps give you the ambiance of an SUV. But you can’t adjust the lumbar support, and the high-spec Ultimate Edition has a driver massage function. All classes of the 2022 Opel Mokka are comfortable enough.
Opel Mokka 2022 interior quality finishing
I did not like the 2022 Opel Mokka interior quality. And the foam material is less than that of Peugeot 2008 or Hyundai Bayon. Some of the buttons appear to be of poor quality.
Space and spaciousness in the Opel Mokka 2022

At just under 4.2 meters long and less than 1.8 meters wide, the 2022 Opel Mokka offers reasonable space at the front, with a mix of cup holders and door pockets for storage. Six feet.
The 2022 Mokka is designed as a more elegant alternative to the Opel Crossland, which explains why it has a smaller trunk than the more affordable Crossland. And the Mocha luggage compartment has a capacity of 350 liters of luggage, which is less than most of its competitors. But it is wide and reasonable, the wheel arches do not interfere, while the adjustable floor makes loading easier, and when the rear seats are folded, it accommodates 1105 liters of luggage.

2022 Opel Mokka loses points in practicality. They’re good for a couple, but carrying extra passengers will make the trunk feel cramped, and the rear legroom is a bit cramped for those over 6 feet tall, and the shorter ones will be fine.
Engine Opel Mokka 2022

Available with either petrol or diesel engines, the 2022 Opel Mokka is also available with electric power as the Mokka-e, and the 1.2 liter petrol engine is likely to be the biggest seller. You can choose it with 100 horsepower, or 130 horsepower, the latter being an exhilarating unit that delivers passionate performance in and out of town. There is also a display of a diesel engine, which is a rarity in cars of this size. It’s a 1.5 liter diesel engine, which is ideal if you plan on going a lot of miles on the highway or need to tow a trailer.
Gearboxes available on the 2022 Opel Mokka

The more powerful petrol engine is offered with a choice of a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The choice between them is up to personal preference, really. The automatic gearbox is fine, and like a lot of modern cars it’s a little hesitant at times but it handles well a lot of pressure in heavy traffic.
Driving impressions of the 2022 Opel Mokka
Driving comfort in the Opel Mokka 2022
The 2022 Opel Mokka feels safe and secure while driving, although not as fun as the Ford Puma or as comfortable as the Skoda Kamiq.”
Engine and transmission performance in the Opel Mokka 2022
Most Mokkas on the market are powered by a small, spirited 1.2 liter petrol engine. It has two outputs: one with 100 hp and the second with 130 hp, and we tested the second, which is a small three-cylinder turbocharged unit. It’s great around town, while there’s just enough push “pull” to keep up with highway traffic.
We did not test the manual gearbox with the Opel Mokka, but the eight-speed automatic gearbox is perfectly acceptable. My eyes change up and down smoothly most of the time, but they get a bit surprised when I stop quickly, and the same goes for the cars in the Audi Q2 and Volkswagen T-Roc.
Stability and handling for the Opel Mokka 2022
If you are looking for a small crossover that brings a smile to your face when the road narrows and turns, then the 2022 Opel Mokka is not the vehicle for you. Compared to a Ford Puma or even an Audi Q2, it’s more prone to body roll, even at moderate speeds, and feels a little heavy when you make quick changes in direction.

However, it feels better balanced through faster turns than the Citroën C3 Aircross. We prefer the steering of the Opel Mocha more than the Peugeot 2008. It is naturally heavier and better in its response, making it easier to position the car precisely on winding roads.

All in all, I found the Mokka a fun and elegant car. The steering is a little slower than what we’re used to in modern cars, but this helps the car feel stable on the journey.
Noise and vibration in the Opel Mokka 2022
Road noise and suspension are well reduced in the 2022 Opel Mokka at speed, but the 1.2-liter petrol engine makes a strong presence in the city. It’s a bit noisy in stopped traffic, shrivels as you accelerate, and fades during the ride. There is only a little wind noise around the windshield pillars at highway speeds.

While it’s not as silent as the premium alternatives like the Audi Q2, the Mokka is a compact SUV. You may notice tire rumbles (choose smaller rims if that’s a concern), and the wind noise is generally no worse than its competitors.
Suspension and driving comfort in the Opel Mokka 2022
When you drive it on winding highways, you get a feel of the Mokka 2022’s soft suspension, it’s remarkably comfortable. And around town, with bigger vibrations in potholes and sunken drain covers rocking you into your seat. It does not crumble, but it does not provide a smooth ride like silk. The 2022 Mocha’s ride quality isn’t impressive at high speeds, especially with the 18-inch alloy wheels. But it’s not tiring enough to provoke complaints.

We tested the 2022 Opel Mokka in its sporty looks for the high-spec SRi and Ultimate Nav, both with relatively large 18-inch wheels. The 17-inch Elite Nav wheels provide a softer rim on potholes and blisters, so we expect the SE’s 16-inch wheels to improve things even further.
Safety and security specifications for the Opel Mokka 2022
The 2022 Opel Mokka was not tested, and got 4 out of 5 stars when Euro NCAP tested it in 2021. The European agency said, “The Mokka lacks some important safety systems that are increasingly common now. The latest edition clearly lacks the ambition of the Mokka, which was the second best car in the small family segment in 2012.”

The 2021 version was criticized in particular for its lack of cyclist protection as part of the autonomous emergency braking system, while there is no central airbag. NCAP said it failed to exceed the five-star threshold in all areas of assessment.
Of course, this does not mean that the Mokka is an unsafe car. There is a very long list of standard safety equipment. Like an independent emergency brake that applies the brakes if you anticipate a potential collision with another vehicle or a pedestrian, and Hill Assist to prevent the vehicle from rolling back when going up an incline. There are also mounting points for the ISOFIX child seat.
Operating and maintenance expenses for the Opel Mokka 2022
Running a 2022 Opel Mokka is very cheap. Choosing a 1.2-liter petrol engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox delivers 51.4 mpg, no matter what power output you choose. Consumption increases to 47.9 mpg with the eight-speed automatic gearbox.

And if you don’t like visiting the gas station, there’s also an electric 2022 Opel Mokka-e.
Opel Mokka 2022 Prices

The 2022 Opel Mokka range starts at around £21,000 with the SE model. It is comprehensively equipped for an entry-level vehicle, with standard equipment including a 7-inch media system that integrates with phone systems, cruise control and LED headlights. But the Mokka SRi looks a little sportier.
Opel Mokka 2022 Reliability
As a brand, Opel doesn’t have the best reliability record. It scored 8.5-10 in the Satisfaction Index for 2020. However, the latest Mokka shares its platform (and many mechanical parts) with other Stellantis models (such as the Citroen C4 and Peugeot 2008). It’s a world away from the old paradigm, which means it’s potentially more reliable.

- Offers efficient petrol, diesel and electric engines
- The design is offensive and attractive

- Spaces are smaller than competitors
