In
vehicles, the term powertrain or powerplant means the main parts that generate power and transfer it to the road surface, water, or air. Major parts include the engine, transmission/gearbox, drive shafts, differentials, and final drive (drive wheels, ….). Recently in the power range of hybrid cars includes: the battery, the electric motor and the control algorithm. Sometimes “power pack” is used to refer to the engine and transmission, and includes parts and other components if they are part of the transmission.

A driveline or drivetrain consists of parts of a power train without the engine and transmission. A part of the vehicle, after the transmission, that changes depending on whether the vehicle is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive, or (uncommonly) six-wheel drive. or eight-wheel drive.

Transmission System

The transmission system is part of the power train family.
The transmission system
can be divided by the position of the parts into each other (conventional, transaxle,
and can be divided by transmission control system (manual transmission, power transmission) automatic transmission),
the manual power transmission system consists of: clutch, gearbox/transmission, propeller shaft, deferential gearbox, axles, or (transaxle). The automatic transmission
system consists of: hydraulic coupling, torque converter, automatic transmission, propeller shaft, deferential, axle, or (transaxle).
The transmission system performs three main functions:
1. Connecting and disconnecting the engine from the rest of the drivetr4ain power transmission system (drive shaft, axles, wheels).
2. The gears allow the limited operating range of the engine to be able to propel the vehicle from a standstill to high speed.
3. It allows the driver to change the direction of movement of the car from forward to reverse.
In addition, the transmission can work to hold the car in place when it stops, whether in Park (P) (automatic transmission) or by engaging in any of the gears (manual transmission).
