But the price, equipment, space, and warranty are plus points that make it worth a look alongside the more established names. It may lack absolute accuracy, efficiency and quality. The 2023 Ssangyong Tivoli is a fairly good-looking car. It is distinguished by the front grille that mediates headlights and fog lights that give its front end elegance, while the rear part of the angular model looks futuristic. Offsetting the aesthetics are the 16-inch steel wheels found on the lower SE model, but it looks nicer with the 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels on the ELX trim.
The exterior design gave SsangYong Tivoli its quirky lines and gave it a distinctive, modern look. Large proportions, the bonnet line is bold, and at the sides the generous use of LED daytime running lights complements its innovative, future-oriented look. Topping it all off is a rear-sloping “floating” roofline. The company has gone to great lengths to make it attractive. And using a unique platform, SsangYong Tivoli is better than ever.
There are two body styles: the regular five-door and the larger XLV, which features more space. The list of accessories includes front and rear skid plates, a detachable tow bar and bike rack, with a carbon fiber C-pillar cover.

Step inside, and you’ll find that the SsangYong Tivoli is a bit of a mixed bag. Space in the completely redesigned cabin is nothing short of excellent. It easily accommodates a family of four, and outperforms a number of its competitors with its extra-large cargo space: only the Renault Captur.
Gone are the days when SsangYong’s interiors were nearly two decades behind their European counterparts in terms of quality and design. But the cheap center console is probably from the ’90s, with a digital screen for climate control and odd rotary knobs for the heated seats. There’s also a strange mismatch between the gray plastics, which isn’t easy on the eye.

Tivoli’s unusually high driving position, full ride height control and a height-adjustable driver’s seat feature are available on top-of-the-line Ventura and Ultimate models. This is disappointing, competitors offer it as a basic feature. Tivoli also lacks lumbar adjustment, and it lacks lateral support. The seat does not hold you firmly in the corners, but it is comfortable for long trips.

There’s a large, leather-wrapped center armrest for your elbow, and it’s surprisingly good for long hours on the highway. You will have no trouble finding a decent driving position, as the steering wheel is adjustable for height and reach, and the driver’s seat is height adjustable. Leather upholstery, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control are all standard equipment. Excellent levels for the price.

The Tivoli features a soft-touch finish on parts of the upper dashboard, with gloss black elements, and a two-way steering wheel on lower models, and a four-way steering wheel on the Ventura. Switches and buttons are also placed within easy reach and are clearly marked, making them easy to use at a glance.

SsangYong Tivoli 2023 has a high seat, and the view is relatively perfect for the road ahead, thanks to the narrow front pillars. But the view is less open in the back. In fact, the problem with the interior design is the quality of the materials. The plastic on the dashboard and doors can be used, but it doesn’t take much scrutiny to find some bad-feeling nooks and crannies. Moreover, the quality drops significantly below the Tivoli doors.

Getting in and out of the SsangYong Tivoli is easy because there are wide open doors, and once you’re in, it’s a good space. The front seats offer plenty of room for taller people, with ample legroom and headroom.

The Tivoli’s boxy shape and high roofline make it spacious in the rear. With more space than competitors, and more expensive cars, the Skoda Kamiq E does not surpass it in space. And with the Tivoli’s front seats sliding backwards, you still have a good six feet. And the third passenger will not feel uncomfortable.

The center floor hump is low so you’ll have plenty of legroom. All three seats have adjustable headrests, and there is a foldable armrest in the middle seat, with the possibility of installing Isofix child seats.

The 2023 Ssangyong Tivoli offers decent storage space. The front door pocket can hold a 1.5-liter water bottle, while the center console comes with a phone tray, and directly behind it are two cup holders. Additional storage space is available with a small compartment under the front armrest and a decently sized glove box. Molded pockets in each rear door hold a 1.5-liter water bottle, and each front seat back has an elastic band to hold maps and papers.

The 2023 Ssangyong Tivoli has a luggage compartment capacity of 393 liters, which is wider than the competitors except the Renault Captur. The boot also contains a false floor that can be folded and stored inside the car, while the fold-down rear seats become completely flat.

Lesser EX models come with a low-tech FM radio, six speakers, and Bluetooth. The small, non-touch LCD screen is difficult to use. It comes with steering wheel-mounted audio controls as standard.





And in the top model, Ventura, it was equipped with an 8.0-inch color touch screen. In the higher Ultimate Nav models, the touch screen size increases to 9.0 inches, and it comes with the TomTom sat-nav information system. It’s a reasonable system to use, better than some competitors, the screen responds quickly, and the menus are sensible.

The 2023 Ssangyong Tivoli is available with two 1.6-liter engines: petrol and a turbocharged diesel. The diesel engine produces 115 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque that propels it from 0-62 mph in 12 seconds, with a top speed of 106 mph. And the engine shows its displeasure if you try to rush it. And it gets rough, it lacks the refinement of other modern diesel engines. But it’s much better at highway speeds,

The 1.6-liter petrol engine produces 128 horsepower, not enough when you consider the production of modern 1.0-liter turbocharged engines. It produces only 160Nm, and the torque is lacking, especially if you try to make rapid progress with five people and a large load. Both engines are mated to two transmissions, one with a six-speed manual which is fun, and the other with an automatic that shifts gears smoothly and without fuss.
The third option is a 134-horsepower 1.6-liter diesel engine, which is a solid option. It’s not faster than petrol, but it allows you to advance to highway speeds with less fuss. With a manual transmission, you need 12 seconds to reach 62 mph, while the automatic version hits 62 mph a second quicker, and of course all-wheel drive versions have been discontinued.
Driving impressions of the 2023 SsangYong Tivoli
All things considered, the 2023 SsangYong Tivoli feels reasonably polished, especially at highway speeds. And “reasonably” doesn’t mean it’s great. It gives you a driving experience that prioritizes comfort over enjoyment.

The Tivoli isn’t for catching hot hatchbacks on a country road. But it keeps giving you a fun and totally decent driving experience. It’s particularly gentle around town, where the high driving position, light steering and excellent all-round visibility combine to make driving easier.

On the plus side, the SsangYong Tivoli has a very smooth ride. It may not be as comfortable as a Dacia Duster or VW T-Roc but it manages to take some of the bite out of potholes and speed bumps you’re likely to encounter around town.
Like the MG ZS, the surface ripples show its lack of control. You’ll find it’s always fidgeting and bouncing over little hills, and it can wobble on dips and peaks. It’s not quite as stable as the Ford Puma and offers more comfort overall.

The Tivoli’s steering is very slow, requiring more turns to turn around any given corner than faster steering cars, and overall you’ll find the cornering circle tight, the steering lightweight around town, with a button on the dash adding a little more heft when you need it.

Suspension issues affecting the Tivoli’s ride are reflected in its maneuverability as well. Like the ZS and Duster, the Tivoli is a lot thinner in the body and doesn’t offer the same maneuverability as the Puma or the Seat Arona.

It is less positive in handling. But it’s neat enough that if you go into a corner with a little enthusiasm, you’ll feel the body and tires roll. And if you adopt a remotely enthusiastic driving style around corners, the stability control is poorly implemented, cutting the power abruptly, which is somewhat unsettling.

The Tivoli features something called Intelligent Steering, which offers three modes: Comfort, Normal, and Sport. In theory, Comfort mode eases steering during city driving and parking, while Sport mode makes it more responsive for a sportier driving experience. In fact, you’ll struggle to tell the difference, although Comfort mode does help a bit when parking.

The extra weight on the standard Tivoli improves ride quality, though it tends to collapse over large potholes and imperfections. It’s far from uncomfortable, but it lacks the softness of its premium competitors. But you don’t pay a high price.

There’s a fair amount of wind noise at higher speeds, while the tires send plenty of road growl into the cabin. It can get tiring when you take it on a long drive. And things get even worse if you choose the diesel engine. The diesel engine is the noisiest in its class, sending vibrations through the steering wheel and pedals.

Overall, the noise indicates that the Tivoli lacks the extra insulation and sound insulation you find in more expensive crossovers. There’s plenty of suspension noise over big bumps and sharp edges, and once you get to around 60mph, you’ll hear a lot more wind and road noise than you do in some of the competition.

In terms of reliability, SsangYong Tivoli gets a mixed bag, with the European Safety Agency giving it a score of 82 percent for adult occupant protection, 62 percent for child occupant protection, 65 percent for pedestrian safety and 43 percent for safety assistance systems. The 2023 SsangYong Tivoli was awarded a four-star out of five-star reliability safety rating when tested at Euro NCAP. The last exams she had were in 2016.

Prices for the SsangYong Tivoli start at £9,000. It’s a budget car in early 2016 or 2017, and if you’re looking for cavernous cargo area, a long equipment list and relatively new, the Tivoli is hard to beat. All new SsangYong vehicles registered from October 1, 2018 are covered by a seven-year premium warranty.

It makes sense to buy a Tivoli registered after 2018 for £12,500. Which means these cars are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty until 2026. Surprisingly, even cars registered in 2020 are available for around £16,500.
Equipment, options and extras in the 2023 SsangYong Tivoli
The Tivoli equipment list is a little shorter than the base EX model. Cruise control, 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, heated and powered door mirrors, and power windows are all you need. An upgrade to the Ventura model adds heated front seats and a few cosmetic touches, such as 16-inch alloy wheels and leather-trimmed seats.

And we recommend going for the better-equipped Ultimate. It adds 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, electrically folding door mirrors, an automatically darkening rear-view mirror, automatic lights and wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a rear-view camera.

The range-topping Ultimate Nav specs remain the same as the Ultimate, just adding a 9.0-inch HD touchscreen and TomTom navigation. If you are using the smartphone mirroring feature, you will not need this add-on.
