Mallaky.com’s editorial team has compiled data on the best-selling cars of 2021. Of course, we will present you with country-by-country results. And as you know Mallaky.com, we’re always excited about the statistics. Because numbers speak louder than words. We coordinated with international organizations and destinations around the world to take a look at the best-selling cars in each country for 2021.

The ratings confirm recent trends and highlight differences in consumer preferences around the world . For example, while North Americans continue to be mad about SUVs and pickups, European drivers still prefer smaller cars, such as sedans and compact crossovers.

Australia, Argentina and Brazil all love mid-size trucks, while in densely populated countries like Indonesia, there is a clear preference for multi-purpose trucks. Like most of the Gulf countries, the residents of the Emirates love to ride SUV cars because they are characterized by the specifications beloved by the Gulf, so it was natural to top the sales list.
On the other hand, as is well known, the chip crisis, along with the continuing uncertainty spread by the Corona epidemic, had a negative impact on car demand last year. However, each country’s market has changed little in terms of consumer preference for a particular type of vehicle.
North America’s clear choices in best-selling cars

The Ford F-Series continued to dominate the market in the United States with 726,004 units sold in 2021 (total includes F-150, F-250, F-350, and F-450 models). The Ford F-Series sold nearly five of every 100 light vehicles sold in the United States in 2021.
The second and third place winners were the Ram family of pickup trucks and the Chevrolet Silverado, respectively. With a combined market share of 11.9 percent in 2021, it is the fourth best-selling vehicle since 1980. The Ford F-Series was also a best-selling vehicle in Canada with sales of 111,332 units.
South America: also passionate about pickups

South Americans love their trucks, too – albeit a little smaller. In Brazil, which is the largest car market in Latin America, it witnessed the rise of the Fiat Strada, which was the leader in the Brazilian market, with sales of 109,107 units in 2021, representing 5.5 percent of the total market.
This was the best result ever for this pickup truck since its launch in 1996. The Fiat Strada has also become a springboard for fun and action among middle-class consumers looking for an efficient and capable vehicle. And behind Strada there are two cars for the city. The Hyundai HB20 hatchback and the Fiat Argo were second and third, respectively.

Argentina is the fourth largest market in South America after Brazil, Mexico and Chile. The Fiat Cronos sedan was the best-selling car there. This small four-door building locally inspires consumer confidence due to its price, appearance and wide availability with merchants.
Toyota Hilux was also the market leader in Argentina for the past three years, but it ranked second in 2021. It recently sold out and replaced another truck, while the Volkswagen Amarok finished third in the Argentine market.
Hatchbacks are the best selling cars and still popular in Europe

The situation in Europe is interesting. Germany’s most popular new Volkswagen Golf was the best-selling car, but as JATO Dynamics notes, the Golf has lost a lot of market share over the past three years. Domestic registrations for the model now represent 3.5 percent of the total market, their lowest result since 1980. Germany’s biggest golf competitors came from other Volkswagen products. The T-Roc and Tiguan were the second and third best-selling cars there, respectively.

In France, the second largest car market in Europe, the Peugeot 208 outperformed Renault Clio. It was the first time since 2004 that Peugeot’s small B-segment hatchback sold more than its rival Renault. However, none of the French hatchbacks expected strong growth for the third-placed Dacia Sandero, whose sales are up 44 percent from 2020.
Big changes in the UK

The UK saw a transformation in 2021. For the first time since 2009, the Ford Fiesta didn’t take first place. Instead, the Vauxhall Corsa took first place for the first time since its introduction and is known in the Arab world as the Opel Corsa. The Corsa was able to get more customers than the Fiesta because Ford was negatively affected by the Puma’s growing popularity.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 took second place, with its best result among the world’s 10 largest car markets. And in third place, the Mini Hardtop three and five doors occupied its first climb to third place in the British market, which witnessed significant shifts in preferences for best-selling cars.
Italy loves Little Hatchbacks

Unlike the UK, Italy’s top three cars barely changed in 2021. The Fiat Panda dominated the country’s sales by moving 112,298 units, achieving a market share of 7.6 percent. Its volume was up 1.2 percent from 2020 but down 18.8 percent from 2019 sales.
The Fiat 500 and Lancia Ypsilon took second and third places, respectively. Together, they accounted for 13.8 percent of all new car sales in Italy.
Crossover domination of the best-selling cars in Spain

The top three places in Spain consisted of crossovers, achieved by the Seat Arona, Hyundai Tucson, and Dacia Sandero. This was the first time that the Arona had topped the list of best-selling cars since its introduction in 2017.
Hyundai has reason to celebrate the strong performance in Spain, though. The Tucson entered its fourth generation, beating other famous competitors in this sector such as Nissan Qashqai (14,626 units), Volkswagen Tiguan (7990), and Peugeot sold (16831) of its Peugeot 3008.
What about Hungary and Turkey?

Suzuki dominates the Hungarian market with a share of nearly 15 percent. The Vitara was the best-selling car in the Hungarian market, while the S-Cross took second place. In fact, the Vitara has been the best-selling car in the country since 2016. The Fiat 500 came in third, and it was the Italian city car’s best result since its introduction in this market.

Turkey’s sales leadership was somewhat similar to previous years. For example, the Fiat Egea ranked first, and this model has led deliveries in this country since 2016. The Toyota Corolla Sedan and Renault Clio HB ranked second and third, respectively, in the Turkish market.
Russia loves Lada. And choose Indonesia for MPVs

Vehicles from Lada dominate in Russia. Vesta ranked first with nearly 113,700 deliveries, up 6 percent from 2020. Granta came in second but saw a 12 percent drop in volume. The Kia Rio came in third place.

Indonesia is the second largest car market in Southeast Asia after Thailand. MPVs account for 45 percent of new vehicle sales in the country. And in 2021, Toyota Avanza was at the top of sales in the Indonesian market. The Mitsubishi Xpander came in second, and the Suzuki Carry commercial vehicle came in third.
