Facelift: The improved XPeng G3 arrives in September bearing the G3i name and a new look from the outside

XPeng is set to launch the G3i in September, with facelift improvements, giving us a sleeker front end that mirrors that of the P7. With a thin LED light strip that resides above the new headlights.

These improvements are evident in the Xpeng G3i’s front end with a longer hood, and new flush-mounted door handles. A little further back, the Xpeng G3i crossover is equipped with a revised rear end that features a new bumper, revised diffuser and updated taillights.

In contrast to the external improvements, the internal changes are more modest, but the G3i has an updated 15.6-inch infotainment system that uses the Snapdragon 820A auto-grade chipset. It also has a “full-scenario” voice assistant, which includes “continuous dialogue and custom voice commands” support.

Buyers will also find XPeng’s XPILOT 2.5 semi-autonomous drive system , which is described as “the most powerful autonomous driving assistance system in its class.”

G3i is a strong start

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor that produces 194 hp (145 kW / 197 hp) and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque. The crossover accelerated from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in around 8.6 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 106 mph (170 km/h).

The standard model has a 55 kWh battery pack, which enables the G3i to travel 286 miles (460 km) on the New European Driving Cycle. Advanced variants on subsequent versions have a larger 66 kWh battery pack that increases the NEDC range to 323 miles (520 km).

The G3i isn’t quite as glamorous and luxurious as the P7, but the G3 was the brand’s first mass-produced model. Launched in 2018, it became “the second best selling electric SUV in the mid-to-high-end segment in China”, so Xping considers it essential to the company’s success.

Xpeng Motors recently launched an updated and refreshed version of its popular G3 compact SUV. The mid-cycle facelift of the G3 is available in China at a price range of RMB149,800 ($23,122 US) to RMB185,800 ($28,679 US) post-subsidies, with customer deliveries scheduled to start in September of this year
