At the Shanghai International Exhibition: XPeng launches its third production of the smart self-driving EV P5 model

Chinese electric car maker XPeng Motors has launched its third model, the XPeng P5, at the 2021 Auto Shanghai International Auto Show , and pre-orders for the P5, the world’s first production electric vehicle equipped with vehicle-grade LiDAR technology, have also begun. It is equipped with a navigation system for autonomous driving known as Xpilot 3.5, which is an autopilot that performs self-driving of the car.

Chinese EV maker Xpeng to open first retail store in Europe in biggest international push yet. Xpeng plans to open its first self-operated store outside of China this week in Stockholm, Sweden. The Chinese electric carmaker has also struck partnerships with retailers in Sweden and the Netherlands to sell its cars

The launch of the third P5 for XPeng follows the XPeng G3, a compact SUV, and the XPeng P7, a long-range sports sedan.
The new P5 is a family car that focuses on comfort, technology and affordability.
The P5 builds on previous models, not only in self-driving functions, but also in the features of the third-generation intelligent cockpit with high-tech, which envisions the vehicle as a third living space to complement the home and work space.

The car includes 32 perception sensors, including 32 ultrasonic sensors, a 5mm wave radar, 13 high-resolution cameras, and a high-precision positioning unit that determines the position of the car, but the big difference from its predecessor is the LIDAR system with the Explorer technology, which are units capable of distinguishing pedestrians and motorcyclists. Fixed obstacles and road works.

The technology works in complex scenarios such as night and low-light conditions.
Backlights and environments such as tunnels, by adding these lidar sensors to the navigation wave or the movement of the car to adjust its movement, it works not only on highways but also works on inner city roads that include 90% of daily driving.

The length of the EV P5 is about 4.8 meters, with a tank capacity of 450 liters, and the wheelbase is similar to the previous version P7 P7, and the lower design makes the car look smaller than its actual fuel, and it is equipped with distinctive and ribbed eight-spoke rims, and the rear design of the car takes Dramatic look with LED strip lights very similar to the previous model from XPeng.

“We continue to explore because we are convinced that technology will enrich our lifestyles and transform mobility,” Chairman and CEO He Xiaoping said at the press conference.
“We believe in the future of self-driving, and we remain committed to it.
Transportation has an enormous impact on our daily lives, and technology is empowering our life choices and driving a fundamental revolution in mobility.”

The Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng will launch its new “XPeng P5” at the 2021 Shanghai International Auto Show this April, not to be the world’s first production intelligent electric vehicle equipped with car-class LiDAR technology, but to enhance the position of the Chinese auto industry in the world by providing more of modern technologies.
XPeng was quick to point out that its P5 is targeted for city driving.
It won’t enjoy the high performance or long-range performance of the P7, but those sacrifices have allowed XPeng to add XPILOT 3.5 to the vehicle, giving it the most advanced ADAS system in China today, while keeping the price lower than that of its predecessor, the P7.

He
Xiaopeng , Chairman and CEO of XPeng, said: “The P5 realizes our vision of autonomous driving with the help of navigation, with the aim of freeing the driver’s focus and effort from the tension of manual driving, and we strive to enable autonomous driving in all weather conditions and in the most difficult driving conditions.”
The XPILOT 3.5 on the P5 includes two LIDAR modules in what was already an advanced driver assistance system.
In addition to the LIDAR technology, the XPILOT 3.5 contains 12 ultrasonic sensors, 5 monocular vision cameras, 4 peripheral vision cameras, a front triple eye camera, and a driver monitoring camera.
The P5 builds on previous models, not only in self-driving functions, but also in features of the third-generation smart cockpit with technology, which envisions the car as a third living space to complement the home and work space.

The P5’s dual-prism LiDAR modules can distinguish pedestrians, cyclists and scooters, which is more encountered in China than in North America and Europe.
The new vehicle can also spot fixed obstacles and create roads, but perhaps the biggest improvement over the XPILOT 3.0 is its ability to extend the Navigation-Guided Guidance (NGP) functionality from highways to now include city driving.

City driving in China is particularly challenging due to the large volume of electric bikes, scooters and small city vehicles that dot the road aggressively without leaving much room for error.
XPILOT 3.5 is designed to handle these street conditions with high-resolution maps.
