The Verdict : The 2022 Genesis G70 is a big improvement, and the Korean manufacturer has made clever changes to frequently used areas – a more substantial update than most cars get, giving the Genesis G70 a new look.
Against the Competition Despite the changes, the Genesis G70 is still small for its segment, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing; They focus more on the driving experience and luxury finishes.
There’s really no shortage of love for the Genesis G70, there’s no doubt about that. This sports sedan was named Car of the Year 2019 when it debuted, and then the unimaginable happened: it lost to the newly redesigned BMW 3 Series in a head-to-head comparison. .

For the 2022 edition, the Genesis G70 gets a number of changes that bring it back for battle , rivaling the 3 Series from Mercedes and other redesigned players in the compact sports sedans category. The changes are accompanied by significant updates by enhancing each of the technical features inside the car, for a comfortable driving experience, as well as adding the new Sport Plus system. The front and rear styling of the 22nd Genesis G70 was also overhauled, and updates also included the G80 full-size sedan and the GV80 mid-size SUV.
The engine of the 2022 version of the Genesis G70
For this review, I drove a 2022 Genesis G70 and tested the 2022 G70 Sport Prestige, which comes with a 365-horsepower V-6, mated to a twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter, rear-wheel drive, and optional equipment. tested to $51,445 including destination charges, the price remains one of the Genesis G70’s greatest strengths.
multimedia system
The 8-inch multimedia screen and user interface of the previous Genesis G70 were a distinct advantage over a number of Hyundai products, but many of the parent brand’s products are more advanced. Genesis has introduced a new 10.25-inch touchscreen display, featuring new graphics, with high-resolution backup cameras and parking cameras, to replace the grainy, lower-res screen in the 2019-21 versions .

It is worth noting that the previous screen size and resolution were among the reasons why it lost to the third series of Mercedes in our comparison. In the new version of the Genesis G70, it has become possible to enjoy the Apple CarPlay system and display its contents on the entire screen.
But the control system for the 2022 Genesis G70 remained committed to not replacing touch controls, and the Genesis G70 kept the same user-friendly design as before, with volume and adjustment knobs placed alongside a sleek, customizable star button that you can configure as a shortcut to CarPlay or Android Auto.
Updated Genesis G70 Dashboard
The previous instrument panel on the Genesis G70 had a traditional speedometer and accelerometer , with a central digital information display sandwiched between them (very standard stuff). For the 2022 edition, half of the dashboard is now digital, to accommodate new functions, including available blind-spot monitoring, which shows camera views of the car’s left and right blind spots – a cool trick borrowed from some Hyundais.

On the downside, I’ve found that the 3D layout isn’t good enough, because the tachometer needle moves in a counterclockwise direction, and the tachometer moves in a conventional scan clockwise, but isn’t recorded in such a way that it moves in reverse.

I preferred the all-digital dashboard that allows me to choose different configurations, corresponding to the steering wheel being in my preferred position, the instrument blocking the block as it did on the previous Genesis G70. I wasn’t the only one making this remark, nor did the new changes for 2022 address it.
Driving mode in the new Sport Plus

I did long-term testing on the 2019 Genesis G70, and I wanted to put some extra sporty on top of what was there, something that would make the G70 more sports car-like. Genesis did well to include it in the 2022 edition, although its effect varies depending on the choice of engine.

For example, the V-6 in the G70s, the new Sport Plus mode gives the Genesis G70 heavier steering, with sport stability control settings and the transmission programming a gear rather than automatically shifting, but if you want to steer clear of the rev limiter. Opt for the Genesis G70 four-cylinder engine, which comes with a more aggressive transmission, higher deceleration, and stronger steering tuning.

While the on-screen Drive Mode settings on the G70 3.3T make it look as if the Sport Plus mode has its own high level of suspension programming above Sport, a Genesis spokesperson says the suspension programming is the same as the Sport system technology. Perhaps the most obvious change is in the Sport Plus 3.3T’s more relaxed mode and the stability control setting, allowing the car to drift gently without much interference from you.
Sports driving in the Genesis G70
This sports suspension (the most expensive) is the best. And it gives you a comfortable position, as it provides shock absorption to make your car softer on the road, and you feel the quality of the ride with the standard suspension, while in the Sport and Sport Plus modes, you enjoy an additional degree of comfort with the fixed sport suspension, but in general, both sport modes have the same stiffness and stability ,
The suspension never made me feel too stiff or jerky, which is the same as a standard sport suspension does on big shocks. All in all, the new suspension option is one of the most significant changes made to the 2022 Genesis G70, and it made me feel completely different from my long-term testing of the previous version.

What sets the 2022 Genesis G70 apart is that the car I tested was rear-wheel drive and was wearing Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires; All-wheel drive versions get all-season tires. As in the all-wheel drive version we tested earlier, which wore all-season tires.

A limited-slip differential is standard on the Sport Prestige version, the highest class, but not standard on V6s, and the differential delivers G70 power, delivering torque from low or medium power.
Wheel rotation at low speeds and even when rolling occurs in a controlled manner that allows the rear end to glide gracefully in corner out situations and when running. After a while, I bit the gas pedal and found the Genesis G70’s rear-wheel drive style to feel smooth when depressed.
Genesis G70 . Shakman Music

In the new Genesis G70, a new variable exhaust valve system is included in the Sport Advance and Sport Prestige models. It is said to give a more aggressive sound to the exhaust and the intake manifold, but without hearing them back-to-back I couldn’t hear much of a difference. And I lacked a premium audio experience even with a selectable electronic boost component called Active Sound Design. But it didn’t give me Halal’s driving experience the splendor of its sonic boom (either mechanically or electronically).
Value for money

The Genesis G70 is still a great example of what you can get for your money. In addition to the 10.25-inch touchscreen and, of course, the new look is not the highlight, there’s a really high-quality interior, and that’s also a solid standard set of safety and driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, lane departure prevention and blind spot monitoring. , alerting what is going on in rear traffic,

Adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go is a nice feature, along with highway driving assistance, a semi-autonomous driver-assist feature focused on putting the Genesis G70 in its lane; And it works just fine as I tested it.
Having lived with the G70 previously, I found that there is a new entry where you can enter without a key, you can simply walk in and pull the door handle to unlock it. Previously, you had to press a button to open the door (with the key near you), but now it’s a convenient feature that offers even more promise of convenience.

Speaking of convenience, the Genesis valet service program is virtually unbeatable and has been a huge advantage to owning a G70: the Genesis dealer service department will come to you, pick up your car, and return it to you after service is completed, and these services will last for three years or a distance 36000 miles. All of the above comes with the G70 starting at $38,570, along with a 252-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine.

My advice, however, is to skip the 2.0-liter four engine altogether in favor of the optional 3.3-liter V-6 with 365 horsepower. Although the 2.0 liter is an unrefined engine that is loud, light and slow compared to the big four turbos (Acura TLX and BMW 3 Series). The 3 mpg combined difference in EPA ratings for the G70,
The agency estimated consumption of the Genesis G70 in the six-cylinder engine at 20-21 mpg combined, while the gasoline consumption of the four-cylinder engine was estimated at 23-24 mpg, which is hardly enough reason to reconsider and rule out the 2.0-liter engine.
It does, however, jump in price to $4,500 with the V-6 engine selection, but by comparing the base four-engine to the base. The 3.3 liter outperforms the larger engine. Its price hasn’t increased much, but the changes to the 2022 Genesis G70 make it feel like it’s all new.
$38,570Pricing for the updated 2022 Genesis G70 starts at $38,570.
