The Subaru Soltera 2023 Driving Experience: An Electric Off-Road Vehicle With More Elegance
The Subaru Solterra 2023 is the first electric vehicle from the crossover maker. With a distinctive exterior design, and a quirky interior, it comes with a four-wheel drive system to be able to handle slippery roads and off-road adventures. With an all-electric powertrain, the 2023 Subaru Solterra is Subaru’s signature vehicle.

On paper, the Subaru Soltera offers a “range” of just 222 or 228 miles and stands out as a crossover, with its 72.8 kWh battery and 100 kWh charging time, which is of course not a leader in its class. However, no one else in the class would compromise on how well it rides and off-road.
New Subaru Soltera 2023
2023 Subaru Soltera is an all-new electric car, Japan’s first electric SUV. It’s Subaru’s first electric car, and it shares so much with the Toyota bZ4X that they even believe. They have a similarly bold design. But the Solterra was distinguished by its symmetrical all-wheel drive system, with a combined output of 215 horsepower from its twin electric motors. and an acceptable ground clearance of 8.3 inches. The release date is set for mid 2022.
Subaru Soltera 2023 competitors

It is entering an already competitive market with premium electric crossovers already available such as the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5. However, all current direct competition models are focused on the road, and the sports car rivals the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86, the 2023 Solterra and Toyota bZ4X are the product of a joint venture between Japanese automakers. But the 2023 Subaru Solterra sticks with what Subaru knows its customers want and need: Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
Quality of the 2023 Subaru Solterra
The 2023 Subaru Solterra delivers what Subaru crossover lovers need. The cabin is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of storage space for the family. Yes, the Solterra isn’t exciting, but it’s an off-road beast, and more than capable. But the extent of the walk is a sticking point, suitable for day trips and weekends camping.

Full charge will help you to arrive and return. If you’re venturing over 100 miles on your overseas travels, you’ll need external charging, and the bottom line If you’re looking for a durable Subaru off-road vehicle with electric power to suit your lifestyle, the Subaru Soltera won’t disappoint.
Subaru Soltera 2023 exterior styling
Subaru’s first electric SUV is all about sharp edges and bulging fenders. While it’s undoubtedly modern, it doesn’t have the luxurious shell of a Volkswagen ID.4 or the sporty character of a Ford Mustang Mach-E. The large black livery hints at the 2023 Subaru Solterra’s off-road capabilities.

And there is a soft front section instead of the traditional grille. The headlights are elegantly designed and the taillights are elaborately designed, but they are stuck to a rather blunt rear side. An interesting design feature from the mid-level trim is the dual tailgate spoiler that Subaru claims helps manage airflow.
As standard, the Subaru Soltera SUV comes with LED headlights, black mirror housings, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Top grades add larger 20-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, roof rails, power tailgate and a glass roof.
Dimensions of Subaru Soltera 2023
Although it is taller than the Ford Mustang Mach-E, it has a shorter and narrower body. It is 184.6 inches long, 73.2 inches wide, 65 inches high and has a wheelbase of 112.2 inches. Its 8.3 inch ground clearance is suitable for an electric vehicle and makes it more suitable for moderate off-road,

Like electric cars, the Subaru Soltera’s weight is somewhat of a problem.
Subaru Soltera 2023 Electric All-Wheel Drive Performance
The specifications and performance of the Subaru Soltera are not amazing, but they are not disappointing. Equipped with front and rear permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, they produce 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. This goes to all four wheels via Symmetrical AWD. Despite its weight, the Subaru Saltera’s 0-60 time is around 6.5 seconds.

This acceleration means that there is no problem with merging on highways or moving from one traffic to another quickly when you are in a hurry. It’s not as fast as some of the other electric cars in this class like the Ford Mustang Mach-E, but it’s not slow either. And in power mode, up to 60 percent of the torque can be sent to the rear wheels, making the car even more lively.

On the other hand, it cannot be described as exciting. Again, that’s not the purpose of the 2023 Subaru Solterra, the performance is good. The X-Mode system with grip control also makes this vehicle surprisingly efficient for off-roading, especially as it is an electric vehicle. The automaker has indicated that it is unable to tow, this is a 2023 SUV.
The power and performance of the engine and transmission of the Subaru Solterra 2023
Subaru’s all-electric StarDrive drivetrain combines front and rear AC synchronous permanent magnet electric motors with integrated inverters and transducers. The system produces a total of 215 horsepower and 249 pound-feet, which is enough for great acceleration around town. We welcome instant torque. This means that pulling to overtake does not require the wind speed required by remote or forested areas.

Power is delivered seamlessly through single-ratio step-down transformers. It’s certainly a more refined experience than you might get behind the wheel of a petrol car, and there are three selectable driving modes and four settings for the Regenerative Brake-force Selection system. The dual-function X-Mode system works lightly in slippery conditions with snow/dirt or deep snow/mud modes.
Driving and performance impressions of the 2023 Subaru Soltera
The numbers on the paper are insignificant, the 2023 Subaru Solterra is lively and doesn’t shy away from the highway. To be fair, it fulfills anyone’s needs from the Subaru crossover brand. I found the ride to be smoother than most electric cars we’ve driven, and the steering is light and the Subaru 2023 Slotera reasonably good in corners and stable.

Behind the wheels are paddles that give the driver control over the level of regenerative braking. The difference isn’t drastic, and driving with one pedal doesn’t completely stop you. All in all, the Subaru Soltera is a compact crossover that is perfectly fun and consistent to drive in all situations. After that, you take it off-road, only to find it firmly fixed.

We took the 2023 Subaru Solterra for dirt trails, some bumpy hills, and big bumps. We climbed steep, bumpy hills using the X Mode setting for dirt and snow, where our passengers bounced back a bit, but ground clearance, approach and departure angles were good, and Symmetrical 4WD did its job and got us to the top of the hill.

We used the grip control setting to control the crawl and it worked brilliantly. Using Hill Descent and manually going back up the slopes, the 2023 Subaru Solterra delivered a confident, perfectly refined performance. On the road, on the road The 2023 Subaru Solterra feels like a mix of Subaru and Toyota, but off-road, it’s all just Subaru-like.
Fuel Economy Subaru Soltera 2023
As per the automaker’s numbers in terms of efficiency, it’s not a leader in its class. The Limited and Touring grades have a gasoline-equivalent mileage rating of 93/111/102 mpg/city/highway/combined and 222 miles on a single charge, while the Premium grade offers 94/114/104 mpg and a “range” range. 228 miles. Superior to Mach-E RWD. and less than Ford, with a range of 314 miles.
Subaru Soltera 2023 battery and charging
The Subaru Soltera’s 72.8 kWh battery recharges to 80 percent in about 56 minutes using fast charging. The charging time of the Subaru Soltera is increased with the Level II charger, 240V at 32A, the battery can be fully recharged in about nine hours.

Level 1, 240V/8A charging takes about 35 hours, and 120V/8A charging takes 77 hours. Just as it requires the charger to be installed by a professional, a 120V level charger is included as standard.
Interior design of the Subaru Solterra
The interior of the Subaru Soltera is very iconic, for the Japanese marque. A high-mounted digital instrument cluster is located in front of the driver and a spacious infotainment screen in the centre. With the available glass roof and spacious greenhouse, the air is pleasantly ventilated. As standard, the 2023 Subaru Solterra comes with automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a power driver’s seat with memory and digital key.

The 2023 Subaru Solterra offers a combination of a high-mounted digital kit but no vertical steering adjustment. Also, the digital block needs some improvement to make it work as intended. As we can see, the steering wheel is not in an ideal position, and it still prevents the odometer from seeing the trip data. Ideally, we suggest that you check out this feature yourself. It’s something that we hope Subaru will review before the next installment goes into production.
Subaru Soltera 2023 car seats

The 2023 Subaru Solterra seats five if the fifth person doesn’t mind getting a little pressed in the back seat. The floor is also high due to the batteries under it and my knees will be higher than usual and affect me at a taller on long trips. Legroom is good for adults, driver visibility is great, but there’s no glove box next to it, and I like the front passenger area, it’s particularly spacious.
Quality Interior Materials For Subaru Soltera 2023

There are some great combinations like the lighter seat centers with the darker bolsters that look good. The Solterra Premium comes with cloth seat upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Replaced with StarTex upholstery in the higher grades, it has satin chrome interior trim. There’s plenty of glossy black plastic on the center console, and the dashboard is covered in textured cloth. It may become obsolete over time.
The roominess and spaciousness of the Subaru Soltera 2023
If the sloping roofline affects the loading of tall items, fold the foldable rear seats 60/40 to expand the space. The Subaru Saltera oddly lacks a traditional glove box for storing documents. But there are plenty of other places to store. As storage space in the center console, pockets in the doors, and pockets attached to the backs of the front seats.

Under the front center console there is a large, open storage area that can accommodate a small handbag. The foldable armrest with storage space or cup holder is an added advantage. The top two have a wireless phone charging base in the center console, which is located before the dual cup holders.
Subaru Soltera 2023 infotainment system
The Premium Class comes with amenities such as automatic climate control, four-way heated front seats, a three-position heated steering wheel, and dual front and rear charging ports. Composite counter with 7-inch LCD screen, exterior mirrors heat up when cold.

2023 Subaru Soltera Comparisons With Its Competitors
Comparison between Subaru Soltera and Toyota bZ4X
Comparing these corporate siblings has always been inevitable. They share a platform and are quite similar. And one of the biggest differences is that Toyota sells a less powerful but more efficient front-wheel drive variant of the bZ4X. With a range of more than 250 miles, it’s a smart choice if you’ve never needed all-wheel drive. Even the base model comes with features like a glass roof and a 12.3-inch touch screen.

These features are standard on the upper trim levels of the Solterra, and they have 0.2 inches more ground clearance than Toyota, which are all marginal differences, but one big plus is that Toyota offers two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance. Combined with Toyota’s top-of-the-line powertrain, that makes it our favorite.
Comparing Subaru Soltera vs Subaru Outback
The Outback looks favorably outdated compared to the Solterra. It’s stiffer, more old-school Subaru, while the Solterra is a modern crossover more capable off-road. And you’ll need a turbocharged outback, with 260 horsepower, to accelerate with the Solterra. Outback proved that petrol cars still had their place. The Solterra can’t tow up to 3,500 pounds like the Outback.

The Outback covers 500 miles and has a ground clearance of 9.5 inches. All this makes it a more capable car. In contrast, the Solterra has a more modern cabin and more advanced technologies such as the surround view monitor. But outback is well known and still best for traversing the great outdoors, yes Solterra is more subtle. As it stands now, we believe Outback will meet the needs of the typical Subaru customer more effectively.
