Crazy move: Hyundai Motor will remake the historic Pony in 2023 under the heritage fillet logo

After 45 years, Hyundai has reimagined the historic Pony in much the same way, with tweaks to the cabin, rear and front lighting.

Hyundai Motors has revealed what it calls the “Pony Heritage Series,” a modern re-creation of the original, mass-produced PONY model that heralded the dawn of Korea’s auto industry more than 45 years ago.

The old Pony appeared in its new form at the Busan showroom at the recently opened Hyundai Motorstudio Busan in South Korea as part of the exhibition titled “Reflections in Motion.”

Held from April 8th to June 27th, the Heritage Pony Series combines distinctive vintage design features with modern touches to offer a glimpse into the future. According to Hyundai , legendary car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro envisioned the first generation of Pony . Yes, PONY, which was truly a symbol of personal mobility, was created by Hyundai during its mass production, which lasted from 1975-1990. It was a hatchback and was the first car to be mass-produced and exported in the South Korean country.

The new Heritage Series Pony features a glossy silver exterior finish throughout the front and rear of the vehicle, complete with a hatchback silhouette. Notable features include camera-based exterior mirrors mounted to the front windshield fenders, as well as an array of circular pixel headlights and U-shaped LED taillights.

In the new PONY, the circular pixel headlights and U-shaped taillights embody the company’s design approach it calls “Pixel Road Trip,” incorporating the eight-bit pixels and graphics also used in the IONIQ 5 and 45 concept car.
