Another sedan could dust off the Mazda 6, and this car is likely to return in the future with rear-wheel drive and a six-cylinder engine.

Mazda Motors has announced the discontinuation of production of its mid-size sedan “Mazda 6” for the US market. And perhaps other markets in the world, and 2021 will be the last year for this model of the Mazda 6, and Mazda 5 will not appear on us again in the year 2022.Mazda 6 will be retired from the fleet of cars that the Japanese brand boasts
A futuristic Mazda 6 is rumored to be on its way to us with a new rear-wheel drive platform and a six-cylinder engine. Mazda 6 will also
not offer mid-size sedans in the United States after 2021. The current third generation Mazda 6 has been around since 2012 but won’t be available for 2022.

Which means Mazda is the latest automaker – after Ford, Chrysler and a few others – to break out of the popular family sedans segment. And while that’s the end of the road for now, that doesn’t necessarily mean Mazda won’t give us midsize sedans forever.,

So rumors persist that Mazda will release a new sedan model on the company’s new rear-wheel drive platform that could use its new inline-six engines. When asked about the possibility of a rear-wheel drive Mazda 6 in the future, a company spokesperson told Malaki.com, “We cannot share details of future products at this time.”
The death of the mazda 6 is a strange decision

The cancellation announcement calls into question whether this new model will again use the same nameplate and the same Mazda 6 name, that Mazda could offer us a new moniker that reflects the new sedan’s mission. Let’s wait for the news to be certain, but we likely won’t hear more about the new Mazda sedan for much longer, as it’s only expected sometime in 2022 and will be introduced as a 2023 model.
In the meantime, the 2021 Mazda 6 sedans will remain for sale at dealerships until they are out of stock as no new cars of this model will be produced.
Indeed, Mazda’s behavior towards this model is surprising. It’s been a staple in the Mazda lineup for nearly 20 years, since the current generation debuted in 2012 with a well-refreshed production run in 2018. The past two years have enthusiasts excited about it once again.

Rumors were circulating that the next generation Mazda 6 would come with a six-cylinder engine and a new RWD platform. It could still come as a new 6th generation or a completely new model.

I reached out to Mazda for more information and unfortunately got the typical phrase “we cannot comment on future product plans”. After many attempts I decided to respond to the dying sedans, we will really miss them. But luckily, Mazda gave it the option of its new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine. So go and try it now before the Mazda 6 is gone completely.

On the other hand, it is worth emphasizing that CX-3 obtaining the ax that landed on her head to take her life is not a surprising decision. Since its introduction in 2015, the small crossover has been selling well, and there’s definitely nothing to brag about. It has sold consistently—this car sold just over 16,000 each year between 2017 and 2019 and generated sales of 16,229 vehicles. But 2020 saw a significant drop in sales with only 8,335 cars sold.

The former’s decision, similar to that of the CX-30 leaving the
cemetery where her sister CX-3 was buried at the start of 2020 , may have confused some because it was not much beyond the capabilities of the CX-3.
It might also have been a natural decision, since it didn’t make sense for both of them to be around and bear a similar name.
And it became clear that the CX-3 was leaving life even though it remained available for 2020 and 21. The CX-30 was recently updated to keep alive with a new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine, but it remains another sign of the CX-3’s existence.
