The name says it all: It’s the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 and it’s an all-electric version of the compact luxury SUV. And the brand called it Electrified, ‘a luxury SUV with a design enveloped in comfort and zero emissions. The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is a new addition to the Genesis lineup for 2023. The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 delivers a luxury experience comparable to its petrol equivalent.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is a high-level electric vehicle, and the top-of-the-line model of the Genesis five-seat SUV lineup. It’s disgustingly fast, with an enormous amount of instantaneous torque. The instant power makes it faster and more exciting – and it really is. Another thing that disgusts me is the price. $127,800 before road costs is a crazy price some would scoff at for a Hyundai.
The Genesis GV70 Electric’s many regenerative braking modes make everyday driving easier. Inside, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 wraps its occupants in all the elegance and luxury found in the petrol version, ensuring excellent comfort and a range of useful technical features. Genesis’ winning streak could continue when the electric SUV goes on sale. The only electric offering in the internal combustion-powered GV70 lineup.

The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is available in a single, high-spec trim with a price tag of $127,800 plus on-road costs. There are no options, except for matte paint ($2,000). It’s $16,700 more expensive than the smaller (but higher-tech) GV60 SUV’s petrol version, and it’s priced roughly in line with the Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic Sport ($124,300). The BMW iX3 is about $13,000 less.

Comparison of the Genesis GV60 and Genesis GV70 electric cars
Genesis now makes two electric SUVs: the GV60 and GV70. Although they each have their own unique appearance, they are somewhat similar. But the GV70 is a few inches longer and wider, while the GV60 rides on a longer wheelbase. Both are backed by a 77.4 kWh battery, with up to 483 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque available from the dual-motor setup.

As of now, the GV60 is only available with a single-motor powertrain, producing 225 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and will likely be slightly less expensive than the GV70. It’s rare for an automaker to create two cars with so much overlap, but both the GV60 and GV70 options are worth considering if you’re looking for an all-electric SUV.
The main competitors of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
With its plush interior, impressive performance, and well-rated balance between ride and control, the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is a compelling alternative to its German electric competitors like the Mercedes-Benz EQC and BMW iX3. And a fierce competitor to the Tesla Model Y, Polestar 3, Audi Q4 E-Tron, and Lexus RZ.

Will you achieve huge sales? At current supply levels, this is unlikely, but it does add another option to the growing array of electric vehicles available to domestic buyers.
The exterior design of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury car division, but the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 doesn’t look at all like any Hyundai you’ve seen before. And unlike most interesting-looking SUVs, the GV70 Electric Genesis in a special Brunswick Green matte finish—a $2,000 option—is a pretty interesting piece.
The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 is similar to the petrol version, but features 20-inch wheels shod with Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires. The GV70 also has an integrated G-Matrix grille with concealed cargo cover, along with redesigned front and rear bumpers. The only flaw in the Genesis GV70 Electric is that it’s more handsome, otherwise the C-pillar is awkwardly positioned, and the small three-quarter rear windows disrupt its clean lines.
Interior cabin design of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
The Genesis GV70 Electric shares its interior design with its petrol counterpart, with the promise of fun and impressive design and an upscale atmosphere. With an interior space suitable for the compact SUV class,
Material quality of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric cabin

Given that it’s a luxury car, I discovered that there are some cheap materials, and that the sleek center screen uses software known to be based on Hyundai cars; And I wanted a more visually detailed system given the price. I also found the steering wheel to be pleasant in the hands, and most touches around the front of the cabin a bit pricey, but the transmission tunnel housing area was a bit soft when I pressed my knee against it.
The dashboard of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides ample information and the head-up display is clear. Reaching the 14.5-inch multimedia screen that sits above the bi-level dashboard is a bit of a stretch, even for someone with orangutan limbs. An intuitive rotary controller in the center console can be used to operate the display instead.
2023 Genesis GV70 electric car seats
The driver and passenger sit in heated, ventilated and massage seats trimmed in supple Nappa leather, with a wide range of adjustments to help tall drivers feel comfortable. The driving position is commanding, and the seats provide plenty of support on long periods behind the wheel. It makes a great place to spend some time. And the 18-way power-adjustable driver’s seat provides plenty of support, like a royal throne in a rolling castle called the GV70.

Like the front passenger, the driver benefits from the “Ergo Motion” massage function that activates automatically during longer periods of time behind the wheel to adjust your position and maintain your comfort. The multifunctional leather steering wheel can also be heated. And I believe that the passengers of the outer rear seats will have the ability to heat their seats as well,
Child seats in the Genesis GV70 electric car 2023
While for kids, the GV70 features ISOFIX points on the outboard second-row seats and three overhead tie-down points.
The spaciousness and spaciousness of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
Rear seat room is roughly on par with what you’d expect from a midsize SUV. The absence of a low transmission tunnel makes the rear legroom ample, but those over six feet tall may struggle.

Rear passengers can adjust the temperature in the back separately from the front, and for some inexplicable reason it fails to separate the front and rear fan speeds. Legroom for second-row passengers is also good, and the center seat is suitable for children on short trips. The company prioritized style over substance.
The infotainment system of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
Genesis has already tweaked the infotainment console, replacing the overly awkward touchpad and scroll wheel, and placed a 14.5-inch infotainment screen atop the dash, backed by a 12.3-inch digital display with a 3D effect; A head-up display is also likely to be available. Plus USB ports in both rows and a front row wireless charger.

The screen graphics are great, responses are fast, and a customizable home screen means you can reduce the amount of scrolling required to navigate your most used functions. While the fingerprint scanning system allows uploading of functions such as different driver profiles. Apple CarPlay looks great on the screen, the lack of wireless mirroring for smartphones, and the lack of USB-C connectors in place of the old USB-A jacks are unfortunate.
The sound system of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
The entertainment system is supported by a 16-speaker Lexicon speaker system. And the system’s 1,050-watts of sound made me shake that it lacked a bit of excitement.
Luggage box of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

Boot space is 503 liters, expanding to 1,678 liters with the rear seats folded flat. There is a storage space under the hood, which offers space of just 20 liters. The box is missing a spare tire, and there is only a repair kit and inflation.
Technical features of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

In addition to its already extensive equipment list, the Electrified GV70 includes a number of impressive luxury touches including a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and extensive use of Nappa leather on the seats and around the rest of the cabin, and it is these touches that help elevate the GV70 to true luxury.
2023 Genesis GV70 Electric Engine
The electric powertrain is accompanied by a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that generates 483hp and 516hp combined, allowing you to accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. It’s the fastest 4WD version I’ve driven, and the engines are powered by a 77.4kWh battery, which can be charged at 350kWh. Genesis says the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 4.2 seconds.
The Genesis Electrified GV70 features twin-engine all-wheel drive, each engine producing 180 kW of power and 350 Nm of torque. And in total there is a power of 360 kW and a torque of 700 Nm. Push the BOOST button on the steering wheel and kW and 605 Nm.
2023 Genesis GV70 electric car battery
Built on the proprietary e-GMP platform, the Genesis GV70 houses a 800V, 77.4kWh lithium-ion battery good for a range of 445 km on the WLTP test cycle. And it can be connected to a fast charger with a capacity of 350 kW, which can charge it from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes. While the charger with a power of 50 kW takes 73 minutes. It is capable of outputting 3.6 kW, and you can connect the charging port to an adapter, or use a socket in the trunk.
Range, charge and battery life of the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electric
Range on a full charge is estimated at 249 miles. It provides up to 3.6 kW of output to power devices off-board. I expect a real range of 300 miles per charge.
Driving impressions of the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electric Vehicle
We spent most of our testing time on the highway, and I found it to have a relatively sportier bent. It performs well in a straight line, it’s not a conventional performance car of course, and as nimble as it is the GV70 simply can’t beat the physics. Weighing in at 2,310 kg, it struggles to control its weight when under pressure.
Powertrain performance of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric vehicle

The Genesis Electrified GV70 houses an electric motor on each axle (supported by all-wheel drive) that combine for everyday driving to generate 320 kW and 605 Nm of torque, allowing it to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds. By operating the “Boost” button on the steering wheel, 360 kW and 700 Nm can be accumulated for 10 seconds. With traction control disabled, the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is reduced to 4.2 seconds.
Steering in the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electric Vehicle
The steering of the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 provides a surprising level of feedback and is nicely weighted in all driving modes except Sport mode, where the steering is firmly centered with its weight. But when you carve a corner, the car suffers.
The huge linearly displayed power, coupled with good steering, makes it even more comfortable. And when you corner it quickly, the corner bisectors will disturb it, and you need to hit the brakes early because of how fast it accelerates.
The noise of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

Active Control reduces road noise, the suspension is electronically controlled, the system draws information from the front camera and navigation system to recognize potential influences such as speed bumps and adjusts the suspension accordingly. This makes it a very comfortable car to ride. The only problem is that tire noise enters the cabin, more noticeable than that of its petrol counterparts.
Driving modes and speed of the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electric Vehicle
In normal driving, you need to indulge in the trip of the throttle to really wake them up, when you hit the BOOST button you’ll feel the steering feel stiff, the throttle sensitive, and it can simply overtake cars. It switched to sport mode, which doesn’t mean it’s a sports car. And you have an “e-Terrain mode” that redistributes power and torque between the front and rear axles for maximum stability and traction in many off-road environments, including mud or snow.
Genesis says its all-wheel drive is rear-biased (in Eco mode, the front-wheel drive is turned off), but with the right-hand pedal flattened, you get hints of torque at the steering wheel in Boost. There is no problem with physics in making such a heavy bus go fast when the road is not straight.
Driving comfort in the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
The 2023 Genesis GV70 Electric is a comfortable and quiet car, the motors are very smooth and the torque is available in plenty.
Handling and stability of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
Body control is good, but on big highway climbs or inclines, it feels heavy at times. It becomes less stable—and can wobble a bit as you fight the dampers to bring the 2300kg of electric crossover back to the line. It is a common problem in hybrid and electric cars.
Single-pedal driving in the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
With regeneration in the more aggressive iPedal mode, you can do most of your driving without ever touching the brakes – although the handoff between brake regeneration and traction can be a little tricky when you need to stop more quickly.

It’s easy to navigate through the regeneration modes using the paddles behind the steering wheel, but you need to manually activate one-pedal steering each time you start the car which is annoying. Regenerative braking can be dialed up and down using the steering wheel-mounted paddles.
Regenerative braking and braking in the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
The GV70’s four-piston monoblock calipers with 360mm discs, combined with single-piston floating rear calipers with 345mm ventilated discs at the rear, are designed to handle weight that rivals whales. They’re impressive and provide plenty of stopping power.
Suspension and Off-Road Driving of the 2023 Genesis GV70 Electric Vehicle

Electric GV70s feature Active Road Preview Suspension, which uses a front-mounted cam to scan the road ahead and can adapt the damping accordingly. We didn’t get to test the car off-road to measure the GV70’s four-wheel-drive system, though.
Driver assistance technologies in the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

At highway speeds, the GV70 has a full suite of driver aids to make life easier. Adaptive cruise control is smart, and lane-keep assist seamlessly takes you back between the white lines if you swerve. It also helps reduce load on the open road by working to keep you in the center of the lane, rather than just intervening if you drift.

Crash and safety tests for the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car

The GV70’s crash safety ratings are not yet known due to its youth, and the petrol version of the GV70 received a five-star rating from ANCAP in 2021. In terms of safety, the active lane keeping assist and lane centering systems prove frustratingly challenging, but The speed and distance control of the adaptive cruise control system worked flawlessly.
Fuel efficiency of the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
Genesis claims that the 77.4 kWh battery pack in the GV70 can provide a range of 445 km on a single charge subject to the WLTP cycle. However, my testing in the hot summer showed that 330km was a more accurate number in the real world.
Charging the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
Genesis says charging the GV70 from 10 to 80 percent takes less than 18 minutes, when connected to a 350kW charger. A 50 kW charger will do the same job in 73 minutes.

A 10.5 kW wall charger takes about 7.5 hours to go from 10 to 100 percent. We recommend that you use the free Genesis home charger and charge it overnight while you sleep.
Genesis GV70 electric 2023 maintenance and warranty costs
Every GV70 comes with a five-year unlimited warranty, along with an eight-year battery warranty, 10 years of free roadside assistance, and five years of free service.
Value for money for the 2023 Genesis GV70 electric car
Still, there’s no getting around the fact that the Genesis Electrified GV70 is a hugely expensive car, $37,000 more than its gasoline-powered counterpart, with the optional luxury package. Sure, yes the Electrified GV70 has superior performance, but the 30 percent price increase is a lot of money.

And if you take a look at it, you will find a luxurious , fast, luxury SUV, and you will find it more expensive than the Tesla Model Y. Yet the GV70 is undeniably imposing, boasting ample performance, and loaded with a hefty toolkit. Yes it can be expensive, but it may be worth it.
