2022 Citroen Berlingo Models
Citroën offers its Berlingo in two models, the first is the “M” model, with a length of 4.4 meters, and the last “XL” with a length of 4.75 meters. The Model M is shorter but wider than the Volkswagen Touareg and is only five-seater. The XL model gives you a choice of five or seven seats.

Under the hood, there are two options for a 1.2-liter petrol engine with 108hp and 128hp, along with two options for a 1.5-liter diesel engine with 99hp and 128hp. The petrol engine is ideal for those with shorter mileage, while the diesel is great for regular long trips or towing duties. Available gearboxes include a six-speed manual transmission and an eight-speed automatic, depending on the engine you choose.

The most powerful engine in the range is the diesel engine that generates 300 Nm of torque, accelerates it from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 11 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 114 mph. While the lower diesel engine accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 12.7 seconds, Citroen says. As for the 108-horsepower petrol engine, it is good at low and medium revs.

The smaller Citroën Berlingo’s 99 PS diesel engine (BlueHDi 100) feels nimbler than its acceleration time would suggest (12.7 seconds) and delivers strong performance at low or medium revs. It is capable of towing and carrying all family members and their belongings together.

Our favorite engine in the group is the 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 109 horsepower (Puretech 110). With a six-speed manual gearbox, it fits the M model with five seats. The more powerful petrol engine accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 11.5 seconds and is befitting of the model. It’s mated to a smoother manual transmission, but it’s slippery than the competition’s gearboxes.

The Puretech 130 engine produces 128 horsepower. It’s the most powerful in the range, and fits the seven-seat XL model, sending its power to an eight-speed EAT8 automatic transmission. Sometimes this transmission causes some unwanted vibrations when the Berlingo is standing, and it can be a bit hesitant when asking for acceleration, but when moving it changes gears with ease.

Both the petrol and diesel engines are perfectly quiet yet distinctly noisy, the petrol engine blaring out farther and farther, while the diesel produces more of a growl in the background. On the highways, any engine noise is well suppressed, but wind noise is still present.
Driving impressions of the 2022 Citroen Berlingo
Gasoline models are less economical, especially the turbocharged 1.2-liter engine, which gets between 37 mpg city to 43 mpg city, which should allow a real range of 500 miles from the 61-liter fuel tank. Both petrol and diesel variants benefit from stop/start technology as standard, helping to save fuel in heavy traffic.

Citroen Berlingo 2022 is closer to the car than to the truck. The steering is light, the turning circle is narrow, and the body roll is well controlled. It has a good grip while the brakes feel powerful and reassuring. It offers a smooth enough ride, though even the roughest bumps rock the cabin. And there’s quite a bit of wind noise when you get up to highway speeds – especially wind noise around the oversized door mirrors.

In terms of handling, the steering is light enough at low speeds (very useful when you’re parking a car with such a large space) and the steering is decently precise especially on flowing highways. You’ll also notice that there’s a lot of body roll when you take it around corners and turns at speed.

The 2022 Citroen Berlingo also rides well in larger undulations (speed bumps and such), is pleasantly supple, and traverses steeper potholes and bumps very well. And if you like maximum comfort, we recommend the Ford, which is better, but much more expensive than the Berlingo Lingo.

Overlaid with the rear half of the old model, which allowed Citroën to open up a similarly huge loadspace, while the front is based on the Peugeot / Citroen EMP2 platform. Economizing engines and low CO2 emissions keep operating costs low, and whether you choose petrol or diesel, PSA small range engines tend to sip fuel less often than most competitors. Top-of-the-line range and power is provided by the diesel-powered BlueHDi engine, which produces 128 revs and gets between 45 and 50 mpg.

The Berlingo’s design and build quality has leaped a huge leap forward compared to the previous generation, and despite a number of hard plastics, it feels sturdy.
The plastics on the instrument panel and door panels are not soft-touch materials, but they are well-assembled and offer a sense of strength and attractive trim. Most versions of the Berlingo have what looks like a mottled stone finish, while the higher version has a rubbery green paint finish on many surfaces.

Soft seats will not suit everyone. Although the driving position is basically correct, there’s a full-size center seat in the third row that’s spacious and occupants won’t feel cramped, and the seats, pedals, and wheels are well aligned. When you sit on the front seats, you will find that they are well padded, although there are additional side supports that make you sit better, and some may find that the seat base is a bit short and does not support the thighs enough.



Those in the middle row will appreciate the opening windows in the sliding doors, and enjoy three equally sized chairs. The center passenger doesn’t sit in a seat designed for occasional use only, and the flat floor and seat quality make it a great option for those looking to purchase a vehicle for regular transportation.
View and driving position in the 2022 Citroën Berlingo
The front overhang and front bumper are shorter than on the old Berlingo, which improves forward visibility. Combined with the elevated driving position, it means drivers get a great view of the road ahead. Children will also enjoy the rear seats and the large expanses of glass that make it easy to see outside.
Visibility is the Berlingo’s strong point, except those thick bases for the windshield pillars are noisy and may cause some cyclists or pedestrians to hide in the blind spot. You will find that the driving position in the Berlingo is decent, as the driver’s seat in the Citroen Berlingo 2022 is high. The driver finds himself in a high place surrounded by huge windows, and the position of the driver’s seat and the space over his head enhance the feeling of being a commercial vehicle.
Information, entertainment and navigation in the 2022 Citroen Berlingo
All models are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The system itself seems smart enough, but I found some of the onscreen buttons to be quite small but pleasant. Integrated navigation is also standard, along with Apple PlayCar and Android Auto as standard.

Smartphone functionality is further enhanced with the optional wireless charging pad. Sound quality is high with a reasonable six-speaker hi-fi system, but music nerds will be better served by opting for the powerful Canton system. Berlingo didn’t integrate the heat and climate controls into the screen and kept the physical buttons and switches which, in our opinion, are much easier and less distracting to use on the go.
Spaciousness and spaciousness in the 2022 Citroen Berlingo
Not only is there a lot of space, but the great design makes sure it’s used brilliantly. The MPV is designed in a practical way. The Berlingo is a massive car. Large sliding rear doors facilitate entry.

Then there is the storage space. A total of 28 cubic compartments provide up to 186 liters of volume – similar to the full trunk of some city cars – and it’s equipped with (literally) a clever roof-mounted storage system. Citroen calls it Modutop, and it has an airline-style locker in the back, with a tall, transparent shelf running in front of it through the middle of the cabin. Paired with a panoramic glass roof, it is available as an additional option on five-seater versions.

No matter which of the five seats you sit in, you have nothing to complain about when it comes to space. The high roofline makes for acceptable headroom for tall people, as well as generous legroom.

Citroën Berlingo has fitted all second-row seats with ISOFIX anchor points – hidden behind press-fit covers – as standard. The spacious cabin offers enough space for three child seats together as well. It has easy access, thanks to the oversized sliding doors and flat interior floor. XL models add a third row of seats. It’s not quite spacious, but passengers of average height or less will be happy enough with it.

The impressive cabin space is supported by a spacious loading area. The trunk is equal to and different depending on the Citroen Berlingo model you choose, the XL model has a trunk volume of 1050 litres. Folding the seats requires just a simple click of levers in the trunk or on the seats themselves, all three individual seats drop to the floor for a larger load area, and if seats six and seven are installed, they can be removed entirely.

Citroen says the front passenger seat can be folded flat and almost flush with the rear seat, meaning the M model can carry luggage up to 2.7m in length, increasing to 3.05m in the XL model, which is great for cargo.
Safety and security features of the 2022 Citroen Berlingo
Citroën Berlingo packs plenty of safety features as standard in the van class, and one of the main benefits of using the Citroen EMP2 platform at the Berlingo front is that it has enabled the French manufacturer to benefit from the latest safety technologies of the PSA range. All 2022 Citroen Berlingo models feature lane keeping assist, speed limit recognition, active emergency braking and driver attention monitoring as standard, while active cruise control is available as an optional extra.

Berlingo scored four stars out of five in Euro NCAP’s safety tests in 2018. The adult and children’s carrier scored 91 and 81 percent, both very impressive results, but lost out on a star for fit by 58 percent in the “weak way.” Because there are hardened areas around the base of the windshield pillars, which could cause injury to pedestrians or cyclists in the event of a collision.

And in the 2020 Driver Satisfaction Survey, Citroën ranked 18th out of 30. Cars based on the EMP2 platform have been an impressive success, but there is a possibility that the Berlingo will be much easier to live with than its predecessor.
