EXTERIOR DESIGN
- The new BMW M4 CSL has already stirred controversy in its latest variant, wearing the exclusive Frozen Brooklyn Gray paintwork, with a polarizing and extremely aggressive design and a sloping roofline.
- Matte gray paint contrasts best with red and black accents.
- The change in the front end is highlighted by a prominent double kidney grille, a new front diffuser and some cool “CSL” badging.
- The car’s unique point is its lightweight body, which features aluminum body panels, Perspex windows and is virtually soundproof.
- The chassis has also been reworked, with new front struts for increased rigidity and cast aluminum elements, additional springs and anti-roll bars, developed to better adapt to a variety of driving situations.
- The new M4 CSL includes a flagship carbon-fiber roof as a measure to reduce weight, and in addition to the roof, the hood, trunk lid and center console are also all made from the same material, which saves another 11 kg (24.3 lbs).
- The headlights also feature BMW’s Laserlight technology, which illuminates in yellow instead of white, making it look even more special than a regular M car.
- This gives the headlights a distinct look from the standard car, akin to the design of the range-topping M8.
- The vehicle is fitted with light alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear.
- At the rear, the CSL’s taillights are also unique and lighter, and are laser-lit, helping to create a distinctive look that can be seen from a long distance in the dark, and a detailed rear spoiler that enhances downforce.
- There is a new titanium tailpipe box that saves 4.3 kg (9.5 lb) over the standard M4 version, and 15 kg (33 lb) of sound insulation has been removed.
mechanical specifications
- In terms of performance details, the BMW M4 CSL is based on the B58 3.0-liter inline-six (3000cc) twin-turbocharged engine, the same as the standard M4, but modified to produce 543 hp (411 kW) and 649 Nm ( 479 lb-ft) of torque.
- It is 40 hp more powerful than the standard M4 Competition, making it more powerful than any other M3/M4 engine in history.
- The engine is mated to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with a rear-wheel drive Drivelogic, the same as the standard M4.
- The car starts from zero and reaches a speed of 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds, and the time from 0 to 200 km / h is 10.9 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the M4 Competition, and its top speed is 307 km/h (191 mph).
- BMW engineers have increased the charging pressure in each twin-turbocharger in the exclusive CSL from 24.7 psi to 30.5 psi.
- In their quest to prove CSL’s dominance on the track, BMW headed straight to Germany’s most famous Nürburgring circuit. The car broke the previous BMW record, setting a time of 7:20.2 seconds for the complete circuit of 20.8 km.
- It’s the fastest BMW ever produced at the Nürburgring, but it’s still way behind its rival, the Porsche 911 GT3, which clocked just under seven minutes.
