The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is an all-new version of the American icon. And when we say everything new, we really mean it. Jeep has finally abandoned its old Mercedes-based platform, which it has been based on since 2005, and has made a platform with a flexible, electric-supported architecture and multiple wheelbases. This means that, for the first time ever, Jeep is offering a three-row Grand Cherokee L model , and an upcoming 4x hybrid that will arrive in 2022.





Currently, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will offer a two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 3.6-liter V6 and a 5.7-liter V8 with options ranging from 293 horsepower to 357 horsepower. Alongside the new platform, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a sleek design, progressive cabin, great technology and familiar Jeep off-road capabilities . All of these changes come with a significant increase in prices from last year.
With the new increase, Jeep becomes more expensive than other mid-size crossovers such as the Chevrolet Blazer, Honda Passport, and Nissan Murano. But thanks to its premium cabin and premium features, the Grand Cherokee feels more comparable to a luxury SUV like the Range Rover Sport. And we tested the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee that far exceeded our expectations.

Competing hybrid SUVs such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento are the best PHEV versions, offering higher fuel economy ratings and greater electric range. On the downside, it keeps the same old Pentastar 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V8 and 5.7-liter V8 engine from the outgoing model. Only a 4xe hybrid with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be added to the lineup.

Jeep offers a mix of old and new with three powertrain options. The base 3.6-liter V6 engine produces 293 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 357-hp 5.7-liter V8 hits 5,150 rpm, while the 390-pound engine hits 4,250 rpm.

As you can see, both engines are at the peak when it comes to torque delivery due to the lack of turbocharging. While the 4xe’s powertrain delivers 375 horsepower at 5200 rpm and 470 lb-ft at 3000 rpm much less. Thanks to the electric motor, a large portion of the torque is immediately available. All models use the same eight-speed automatic transmission, but the 4xe’s electric motor is integrated into the gearbox.

There are three four-wheel drive options available: Quadra-Trac 1 and 2 and Quadra-Drive 2 with a rear electronic limited-slip differential. The first is a basic permanent all-wheel drive system with active torque splitting, while the Quadra-Trac 2 adds a low-range transfer case. The Quadro Rave system is customized for Trailhawk models and features a two-speed transfer case with a low-range gear ratio of 2.72:1, and an advanced Selec-Terrain traction management system with various drive modes.
Engine Performance For Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022
Three engine options are available for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, only one of which is modern. It kept the Pentastar V6 and HEMI V8 engines, and assigned the 4xe hybrid powertrain to SUVs, and the rest of the range was standard rear-wheel drive with an all-wheel drive option.

Power outputs from 293 to 357 hp. As usual, Jeep doesn’t focus on the 0-60 acceleration dash or top speed. The diameter rating is much more important to her. The 4xe has the lowest towing rate at 6000 lbs., followed by the V6 with 6200 lbs. The V8 engine enables the Grand Cherokee to tow 7,200 lbs.
Driving and performance impressions of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Jeep Grand Cherokee priced higher than other mainstream crossovers, and we tested the Quadra-Lift air suspension system. Although the Grand Cherokee is not at all gentle to drive, it won’t let flawed roads disturb its occupants in any way. With very little noise, so you won’t feel tired on highway trips. Compared to the old model, the Grand Cherokee still feels big on the road, and good steering and a graded chassis keep it stable in turns and corners.

We took a car with a V6 engine. It’s an engine that drives the car without a lot of fuss, while the V8 can provide more effortless scrolling power at the expense of fuel economy. In an independent off-road test at Hell’s Gate in Moab, the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk passed the gate with this engine. It demonstrated the best off-road capability of the lineup.

We tested Jeep’s Quadra-Lift air suspension and the standard Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system. To climb the top of a cliff and take Trailhawk for bumpy roads full of rocks and more bumpy points, and we raised the air suspension to its maximum height, Trailhawk did the job and climb a difficult mountain.

To make the job even easier, Jeep’s Selec-Speed Control system acts as an off-road cruise control, helping the vehicle to crawl over or back off an obstacle without requiring driver intervention. We suspect many Grand Cherokee owners will use it like a Wrangler, but it’s super capable on demand.

We found the petrol engine – unbeatable in any of the three driveline modes – poised. Full throttle ignites the engine, and when we lowered our speed from about 33 to 26 mph as we climbed into electric mode, it went into the normal engine, cutting off the silent electric motor. We expect the turbo engine to have enough torque to get it moving even though the hybrid version is over 500 pounds, Jeep said, and we haven’t tested it.

According to the EPA, the Pentastar V6 is capable of 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/average, and the 5.7-liter V8 four-wheel drive delivers 14/22/17 mpg.

Charging time and final fuel consumption figures for the 4xe aren’t available yet, but Jeep says it’s targeting 57 mpg combined.
You can run the hybrid car as an electric car, for a distance of 26 miles. It takes 2-3 hours to charge a Level 2 truck from a 240V source.

The interior of this new model is something else. High-end models offer a blend of real wood, rich leather, contrast stitching and high-resolution displays. The steering wheel is newly designed and sexy, as is the light wood on the doors. The drive controls consist of a gear-selector rotor, flanked by two large switches for drive modes and ride height, and the lowered all-wheel drive is engaged at the touch of a button. But the cabin of the base Cherokee models is not impressive, the screen is smaller with a large black bezel. And the gear selector stands lonely and sadly without the drive mode and ride height switches.

There are many packages available, but not all of them are available across the lineup. Laredo options with interior and exterior improvements cost $1,295. But there are no bundles for the Limited and Attitude classes.

However, these are two completely different cars. If you are looking for an attractive SUV that spends most of its time in the city or on road trips, the Explorer might be the best option. But it can’t do half of what a Grand Cherokee can do off-road, and the latest Jeep design and technology enters a world of excellence!
