Automakers continue to rush to meet consumer demand for seemingly insatiable SUVs, to the point that sedans and hatchbacks are losing popularity. Trucks, SUVs and crossovers continue to generate the highest sales and bills in marketing materials. Despite their difficult situation, compact cars remain among the most affordable types of cars you can buy.
In general, compact cars include both hatchbacks or sedans, and they fall between the small and mid-size car segments and price. Compact cars have fallen into the SUV maze, although thanks to intense competition and a surge in technology features, the traditional formula of the compact four-door has become flexible, extending to sporty and elegant coupes.
Whatever your needs, there is likely to be a compact car that will cater to all of your needs. Here, we’ve curated the current new compact car deals and compared them to each other, ranking them for you from best to worst.
1. Honda Civic
Over ten generations of compact cars and more, the Honda Civic has given us a lot of what we want. From a qualifying base sedan to a Civic Type R, a 306-horsepower hatchback, the Civic is one of the few cars in the compact segment with a changing spirit. The new compact sedan design gets a basic 158-horsepower, fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine mated to a CVT transmission.
A four-cylinder engine with 174 horsepower is available and is standard on hatchbacks and sedans. And no matter how you chop it up, the Civic’s suspension tuning makes driving fun without sacrificing its endurance. The new compact Civic came mid-2021 with an all-new look, with an updated interior, with hatchback, C and Type R versions.
Honda Civic 2022 comes with a 1500 cc, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 180 hp and 240 Nm of torque, 6 hp more than the previous year and 20 Nm, while another 2000 cc, 4 cylinder engine is available with 158 hp and torque. 187 Nm.

2. Mazda 3
Having a small car like the Mazda 3 means that small cars can be fun and feel luxurious. 3. Volkswagen Golf
Among the compact cars, our favorite hatchback is nearing the end of its seventh generation as I eagerly awaited the release of the new Golf GTI for sale recently launched this year.
Golf does it all and does everything well.
It is affordable, effective and spacious.
The Golf GTI is fast and the Golf R is faster, but even the basic Golf drive is fun.
A 147-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine is standard with a choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Golf has remained a cult icon among compact cars. The Golf we recently tested well outperformed its EPA rating with 43 mpg during our highway fuel economy test.
Base models have a 6.5-inch infotainment screen, while SE grades now have an 8.0-inch touchscreen.
This year marks the end of the base Golf as Volkswagen plans to sell only the Golf GTI and Golf R in the states.

4. Hyundai Elantra

The Elantra is a great balance between affordability and quality, with a comfortable ride unlike your little car with a rough ride.

5. Honda Insight
