Spark Plug or Spark Plug… is what is called in the professional sphere among the public as ‘Bougie’ and the word ‘ Bougie ‘ Means spark plug in the French language * So the general public and the mechanics of them in particular speak French words while they do not know.
The spark plug is used in most internal combustion machines * with the exception of diesel engines * to provide the high-voltage spark needed to ignite the fuel-air mixture inside the combustion chamber.
The invention of the spark plug is attributed to the French “Etienne Lenoir” (1822-1900), who in 1860 AD, for the first time, manufactured an engine based on an electric spark ignition system in his work.
The spark plug in its operation * with respect to electrical, mechanical, chemical and thermal stresses * is subject to harsh operating conditions, as the expansion of the spark plug parts resulting from heating requires high requirements in the properties of ceramic insulation materials, and the tightness of preventing gas leakage from the spark plug, and the insulating bodies must be resistant High to mechanical stresses against
Pressure, shocks and knocking, good heat conductivity and high electrical insulation ability.
The shape of the electron, the length of the base of the spark plug, as well as the type of threading the screw (screws) depend on the sizes of the spark plugs, as the materials used in manufacturing differ, and the technical methods of design from one manufacturer to another * so please, when choosing the spark plug in the car, follow the types specified by the company in the car book There are what are known as ‘hot candles’, ‘cold candles’ and ‘medium candles’ .. all of them differ in the heat range from the other, and there is also what is known as a ‘one negative party’ and another negative multi-lateral (two, three and quadrupeds) It is what is called in the professional community Puget (2 candles * 3 candles * 4 candles), and of course each has its advantages and disadvantages, so what is suitable for one engine may not be suitable for another engine .. and so on ..
And the life span of the spark plug ranges between (20 * 40 thousand km) .
There are certain types of spark plugs with a life span (100 thousand km) called platinum candles and they are expensive.
The good work of the motors requires that all the plugs have the same gap between their poles, as increasing the gap does not cause a spark and thus causes the burning of the ignition coil or the insulator * and the decrease in the gap amount weakens the spark and thus the charge does not burn inside the ignition chamber. The range of the ignition gap ranges between (0.4 * 1.1 mm).
And on each spark plug, letters and numbers are written on it to indicate its characteristics: For example: W16EXR-U11
W= The size of the screws and the volume of the hex shaped with it.
16 = Average operating temperature (° C).
E= Length of plug thread
X= Specializes in some designs of spark plugs
R= Indicates that the spark plug contains an internal resistance
U= It indicates that the spark plug has a special shape and form
11 = spark plug gap (mm) … and here it is (1.1)
