General Motors launches its used car dealership CarBravo

General Motors faces a shortage of chips by supporting its dealers in selling used cars of its own production and other productions

The auto giant will consolidate used car sales for its dealers on a website with the goal of battling CarMax, Carvana and other online platforms at a time when used car prices are soaring.

General Motors announced today that it will launch a used car dealership called CarBravo, which will boost its dealer network and the nearly half a million used cars they have.

Customers will be able to shop online or at a General Motors dealer, in either case they can shop for in-stock vehicles at dealers across the United States.

General Motors will use what it calls the Black Book to access dollar figures and will offer “guaranteed online offers” to buy customers’ cars even if they don’t buy them using the site, and is expected to include non-GM cars.

The strength of the General Motors sales website lies in the company’s vast network of approximately 4,200 dealers.
According to Automotive News today, these dealers have 400,000 used cars in stock each year, and GM Financial has another half a million.
Carvana, which saw 74 percent year-over-year growth as of late 2021, said in a report that it sold 111,949 used cars to customers in the third quarter.
General Motors said it will offer CarBravo buyers “standard warranty coverage” and trial subscriptions on OnStar and SiriusXM for some vehicles, without giving details.
Of course, the company notes that buyers are welcome to use GM’s financial unit and its network of service and maintenance facilities through its dealerships.
We did not know whether this service includes cars not produced by General Motors or not.

Some dealers will offer a test drive at home and home delivery.
Customers will be able to purchase entirely online, entirely through an agency, or a combination of the two.
GM also says it will buy customers’ cars, relying on black book numbers – a book that includes the history and numbers of the car – with “guaranteed” offers, even if they don’t buy another Car Bravo.
This sounds similar to Carvana and other websites that buy and sell all used cars.

CarBravo will also provide a seamless customer experience through GM’s new digital retail platform (DRP).
DRP will provide a simple and transparent shopping interface featuring clear dealer pricing, vehicle history reports and 360-degree views of the vehicle.
All CarBravo vehicles will be inspected and reconditioned to meet standards set by General Motors.
Customers can get guaranteed offers online, from the industry standard Black Book, to purchase their vehicles even if they did not purchase a vehicle through CarBravo.
“Used cars are an important part of our business,” said Todd Ingersoll, commercial director of Ingersoll Auto in Danbury, Connecticut, who co-dealed with CarBravo.
“We are excited to join GM in exceeding our customers’ expectations and continuing to deliver a world-class experience.”
