The Chinese manufacturer of the Hongqi S9 Hypercar is seeking to increase the power and add some extra muscle, to produce 1,400 hp and a speed of 406 km / h.

In an official press release, Silk-FAW has appointed former Ferrari CEO and Board Member Amedeo Felica as Special Adviser to the Joint Venture CEO and a member of Silk-FAW ‘s Senior Advisory Board .
Felica is expected to contribute significantly to the brand with his 26 years of experience working for the Prancing Horse. Ferrari, Silk-FAW revealed that Felica “will participate in the development of the company’s global strategy and will oversee all elements of the implementation of the company’s business plan”.

According to their statement, Silk-FAW is looking to manufacture “high quality ultra-luxury sports cars” not only for China but for the rest of the world as well. The Silk-FAW joint venture is making battery-electric hybrid cars under the Hongqi brand, which will be produced in China and Silk’s headquarters in Emilia-Romagna, Italy.
Hongqi S9 super car?!
The company presented a concept of its Hongqi S9 hypercar planned at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show , featuring a 1,400-horsepower Hongqi S9 engine. Produced by Hongqi S9, the first of the company’s planned ‘S’ series launch, it was designed by former Volkswagen Group Chief Design Officer Walter de Silva, who is now Silk-FAW’s Vice President of Design. De Silva will design the full Hongqi “S” lineup.
You may have heard of Hongqi as a luxury car manufacturer for the Chinese government, which has been described as the “official car of ministerial-level officials” since 2013. But as I’ve read, Hongqi isn’t just about making official cars anymore.
The S9 features a hybrid system with a V8 combustion engine that produces a massive amount of power output. It is said to be able to reach 62 mph (100 kph) in just 1.9 seconds, while the top speed is claimed to be 250 mph (402 kph). The Hongqi S9 presents a mixture of technology and art, in a mixture that represents the convergence of classic and innovative, that is, it is a mixture of East and West.
With a top speed of over 400 km/h, performance hybrid functions, and acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 1.9 seconds, the Hongqi S9 is the birth of the best supercar in China.

Silk EV, an international automotive engineering and design company, and FAW, the largest automobile manufacturer in China, have established the Silk-FAW Joint Venture (JV) project to develop a series of new energy, ultra-luxury, high-performance sports cars.

World-renowned Italian automotive designer, Walter De Silva of Walter De Silva & Partners, has been appointed Vice President of Design and Design for Silk-FAW JV. He will design the full range of Hongqi ‘S’ series of new energy vehicles that will embody the essence of innovation and beauty. About his new role, Silva said, “I am excited about Hongqi’s ‘S’ series of new energy vehicles. We are in the final design stage of Hongqi S9.
