Subaru Forester Review Summary
The combination of Subaru’s exterior image and the practicality of a compact crossover has made the Subaru Forester a successful SUV, but its flat-middle four-cylinder engine offers tepid acceleration that limits its appeal. The 2022 Subaru Forester benefits from a styling change that gives it a truck-like feel, but the cabin remains as comfortable and functional as ever – exceptionally airy and full of convenient storage. Like most other Subaru cars,
All-wheel drive Subaru Forester is fitted as standard. Major competitors such as the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 offer similar features, but both offer stronger gasoline and hybrid engines that leave the buyer feeling weak in comparison. However, for buyers who find Subaru’s adventurous aura appealing, the Forester will be a satisfying choice.
What’s new in the 2022 Subaru Forester?

Subaru has updated its 2022 Forester SUV with extended-look headlights, a reworked grille, synced with new wheel designs, and new exterior colors: Cascade Green Silica, Autumn Green, and Brilliant Bronze. Inside, a new waterproof polyurethane seat upholstery joins the options sheet, while EyeSight’s suite of technologies benefit from driver-assistance features with camera sensors that Subaru says broaden the system’s field of view and extend its operating range. These updates were announced in Subaru’s home market in Japan, but we expect to see the same changes to the US, European and global spec Forester when it goes on sale later this year. While the Limited and Touring models are more impressive, we think the Premium model offers the best combination of value and features. Exterior upgrades – 17-inch wheels, a rear spoiler and body-colored side mirrors – make it look less like a rental car, and the interior includes luxuries like a panoramic sunroof, 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, reclining rear seat backs and a Wi-Fi hotspot. -Fi, six-speaker sound system. Engine, transmission and performance

All Subaru Forester models are powered by the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 182 horsepower and can tow 1,500 pounds. Connected to a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), it directs the engine’s power to Subaru’s trademark all-wheel drive system. On our test track, our 2019 Forester Touring test vehicle required 8.5 seconds to hit 60 mph.

Not quite an exciting performance, but it will meet the needs of most buyers. Especially those looking for more oomph should check out the Honda CR-V or the turbocharged versions of the Mazda CX-5 and Kia Sportage. For an SUV with no sporting intentions, the Forester’s handling is easy, the ride is compliant and optimized, the steering is precise, and the brakes are strong enough for emergency stopping.
Fuel economy and MPG in the real world
With EPA fuel economy ratings that match much of the compact crossover segment (26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway), it will likely satisfy buyers looking for efficiency. And in a fuel economy test on the 200-mile highway,

Our Forester Touring test vehicle missed its highway fuel economy rating by 1 mpg, resulting in its actual road numbers being returned 32 mpg. However, this number matches the result provided by the CR-V Touring and Toyota RAV4 Adventure. Cabin, comfort and cargo

The interior of the Subaru Forester is practical, has no frills, good driving position and great outward visibility. The interior of the Touring I tried was nicely finished with caramel-colored leather on the seats, door panels and dash; The plastic embossed trim on the rest of the cabin looked good quality as well, while the glossy black plastic on the center stack and the chrome-plated plastic trim and matte metal accentuate things well.

The rear seats are extra-wide (there’s no third-row option), but the seats are comfortable for road trips. I could fit 11 bags behind the back seat and I was able to fit 23 huge bags with the rear seats folded. That’s more bags than a CX-5 or RAV4 can hold, but the CR-V smashed the limit at 25 with its stowed rear seats.
Information, entertainment and communication

All Subaru Forester models come standard with a touchscreen infotainment system using Subaru’s latest Starlink interface. Base, Premium and Sport models come standard with a 6.5-inch screen, but the larger unit has an optional 8.0-inch screen on Sport and standard on Limited and Touring models.

Two USB ports are provided for front seat passengers; Two more optional ones are positioned at the rear of the center console, giving rear-seat passengers a way to charge and operate their smartphones. Nav is only available in the Limited Edition and Turing Edition, but for those who decide to stick with a lower model, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are standard and can provide onboard Wi-Fi streaming over a 4G LTE data connection standard on all but the models. Bezeq standard version.
Safety and driver safety
All models come standard with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of camera-based driver assistance features. For more information about Forester’s crash test results, visit the websites of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features include:
Standard Automatic Emergency Braking
Standard Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist
Standard Adaptive Cruise Control
Warranty and maintenance coverage

Forester’s guarantee is basic, and buyers will pay for maintenance visits. Competitors like the Sportage and Hyundai Tucson – both of which offer a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty – and the RAV4 – which offers two years of free scheduled maintenance – offer more value here than Subaru.
