Full details of the upcoming Cupra Born electric car will be revealed next week
Spanish performance brand Cupra has confirmed that it will unveil its first electric car, the Cupra Born, on May 25. The car will also spend its day in a fully digital presentation at 11 am today, but the Cupra has already revealed its competitor to the Volkswagen ID.3 in a series of teasers before revealing its all-new car.
CUPRA has confirmed the arrival of a model that will change the dynamic perception of electric-powered vehicles.
Since its presentation at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the CUPRA Born Concept has been praised for its elegant looks and personality.
Despite the positive reviews, noting that the design team and engineers of the Technical Center did not stop there.
Rather, they continued to develop the car, giving it a sportier character and an even more impressive visual appeal.
The result was the birth of the brand’s first all-electric model: the CUPRA Born.

With the exception of a set of recognizable alloy wheels and a new badge, the Cupra Born looks virtually identical
to the SEAT El-Born concept car. It shares the same short hood, radiator grille, large lighting quarter windows and a tailgate spoiler.
Cupra says its engineers drove thousands of miles during the Born development program, in temperatures as low as -30 degrees Celsius, with most tests designed to emphasize the limits of the car’s adaptive dampers and chassis control systems.
It should also match expectations set late last year, when El-Born was seen wearing Cupra badges.
The production-ready Born EV will also feature a host of sporty styling cues, such as the vehicle’s height with a low ride feature that facilitates entry, 20-inch alloy wheels, aggressive front and rear bumpers, fender side skirts and a pair of seats .
Chassis and powertrain on the Cupra Born
The new model of the Cupra Born, which will be manufactured at the Zwickau plant in Germany, is based on the same foundations of the MEB platform that Volkswagen used to build its ID.3, with an electric motor that powers the rear axles.
Cupra says the Born will go from 0 to 31 mph in 2.9 seconds, but the rest of the car’s performance specifications have not been confirmed. Back when SEAT was tackling the project, the Born was set to receive a 201-hp electric motor, giving the EV time to sprint from 0 to 62 mph (96 km/h) in 7.5 seconds.
According to the data of the Spanish manufacturer, CUPRA Born is equipped with the latest technologies such as a head-up display with augmented reality. It will be able to travel up to 500 kilometers on a single charge thanks to the highly efficient 77 kWh battery (total: 82 kWh). Its fast charging capabilities will give the CUPRA Born enough power to travel at least 260 km in just 30 minutes.
A battery pack with a nominal capacity of 82 kWh means a range of up to 310 miles JPY WLTP should be possible. The smaller 62 kWh ID.3 nominal battery pack will be available on the lower-range versions of the Born, providing about 260 miles on a full charge.
With the MEB platform, the vehicle can be charged via 100kW DC power, meaning this hatchback can recover 80 percent of a charge in about 47 minutes or take 161 miles of range in just 30 minutes.

The cabin of the Cupra Born closely resembles cabins Volkswagen’s ID.3, with a digital instrument, a 10-inch floating infotainment screen and touch-sensitive controls for the car’s heating and ventilation system. It will also feature a pair of racy bucket seats and a sporty Alcantara steering wheel.
Cupra also confirmed that the Born model will feature the new ID.3 augmented reality display, as well as smartphone connectivity via the car’s infotainment system and an integrated heat pump system that does not draw power from the car’s battery to heat the cabin.
