Chinese company WM Motors unveils an electric track crossover with 805 horsepower

China is full of automakers focusing on electric SUVs, some of which have already been established and launched, and others that are less well known. Such is the case with WM Motor, a well-funded startup founded in 2016 . It seeks to enter the world of electric supercars, and even racing cars.

According to its official website, the Shanghai-based company offers a range of three models under the Weltmeister brand — including the EX5-Z, EX6 Plus, and W6. A one-off electric car concept that generates massive amounts of power that depends (loosely) on one of the company’s SUVs!

The concept was revealed in the form of digital renderings found on the Auto Home website, but the company said it will be showing off a functional prototype and demonstrating its impressive performance numbers.

WM Motor and Supercars

Speaking of which, the electric track car has two electric motors, producing a combined power of 805 hp (600 kW / 816 hp), and is fitted with a massive 1,400 kWh battery pack designed to comply with FIA regulations. The company claims the model needs just 1.8 seconds to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph), which is amazingly fast but still slower than the (also alleged) performance of the upcoming Tesla Roadster.

The concept isn’t really like an SUV, as it’s so close to the ground. The only thing it seems to be similar to is the company’s current W6 model, other than that, a number of high-powered aerodynamic components are visible in the bodywork that appears to have many uniquely designed parts. And we didn’t get any pictures of the rear end where we can see a strange set of wings.

To get an idea of the actual vehicle the concept is based on, here ‘s a photo of the W6 electric SUV, which is WM Motor’s third production model. The W6 comes with an electric motor producing 215 hp (160 kW/218 hp) and a 65 kWh battery that allows a range of 520 km (323 mi) under the NEDC China Optimistic NEDC. The company claims it is capable of Level 4 autonomous driving, and is built on Baidu’s Apollo platform.

WM Motor is targeting affordable models, so it doesn’t really make sense to unveil a racetrack car. However, it is certainly a statement from a company that claims to have the technical background for superior performance. This crazy concept isn’t the only model to wear the Weltmeister badge, as the company revealed another sporty four-door model last year called the Maven, which is set to go into production.
