Lamborghini under the electric guillotine.. Everything you need to know about Lamborghini electrification plans

It is inevitable that Lamborghini will have to switch to electric cars. Hopefully their cars can somehow hold their soul.

The switch to electric cars is now a craze sweeping the auto industry. Even low-production luxury cars like Lamborghini get caught up in it. For the past year or so, we’ve heard one car company after another announcing that they’d go all-electric 5, 10, 15 years from now.

In fact, it seems that all major car companies in Europe and America (with the exception of BMW) have announced that they have now canceled all further research and development in the next generation of internal combustion engines.

Ford Europe has stated that it plans to sell only electric cars from 2030, while General Motors has announced that it aims to be fully electric by 2035. Some car companies have set dates before that.
Now it’s Lamborghini’s turn.
Here’s everything you need to know about Lamborghini’s plan to electrify its fleet.
urgency

Countries around the world are moving to ban the sale of new conventional cars with combustion engines.
Many of them, like the UK, will ban them by 2030, while Norway will ban them in 2025. With all the urgency the Lambo could collapse due to the nature of the cars we enjoyed, and the power they had.

On the other hand, cities may also impose strict rules about what people can drive in cities.
Also, Tesla’s meteoric rise to become the world’s most valuable car company is a warning shot for those who are slow to shift and left behind in electric, with surely a Lamborghini at heart.
investment

Lamborghini spends a lot on electrifying its fleet

It announced that it plans to invest about $1.8 billion in electric vehicle technology.
That’s a lot of money for a car company that only gets about $700 million or so in income a year (according to 2014 figures), and it can be a drain on its budget.

Lamborghini only sold just over 8,000 cars in 2019 – a similar amount to arch-rival Ferrari which Ferrari is also looking to electrify its fleet but plans to keep the combustion engine.
Plan to be a hybrid
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Monaco IMG 1227 %D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A8%D9%88%D8%B1%D8%BA%D9%8A%D9%86%D9%8A.jpg
Lamborghini has said it wants its entire fleet of cars to be a hybrid by 2024 – just about 3 years from now.
Indeed, Lamborghini is moving very quickly to hybridize its fleet.
Hybrid cars can offer a lot of benefits.
But they lack one advantage, as they can’t add more power to the car, and in contrast most people only drive short distances most of the time.
And that short trip can usually be handled by a hybrid car battery.

And while current brands are making cars like the Huracán and Aventador sports cars as well as the Urus sports utility vehicle that will be a hybrid by 2024, they won’t stop there.
Lamborghini’s plan is for future models (including one that will be launched at the end of the decade) to be entirely electric.
Over time, all Lamborghini cars will be fully electric.
In fact, they won’t have much choice, as combustion engines will be banned in many countries in the next decade.
Lamborghini Challenges

Lamborghini’s reputation is at stake . Their cars must be first-class and extremely high-performance.
They acknowledged that developing an electric vehicle to “evoke the feel of a V12 engine” would be a huge challenge, and one of their main priorities would be to develop an electric vehicle with great range.
It is now clear that the future of cars is battery electric (or perhaps hydrogen, but that’s another story).
That includes sports cars, and Lamborghini is now embracing this new reality.
rival Land Rover Jaguar

Compared to its British luxury rival Jaguar, it appears to be following a much longer schedule for electrification.
Jaguar’s plans are very ambitious – even though it has just launched its first electric car.

Jaguar plans to electrify all of its models by 2025 and then phase out petrol and diesel engines entirely by 2030. That’s a very fast timetable for a car company that has one electric car on the market – the I-Pace.
rival Ferrari

Compared to fellow Italian luxury car maker Ferrari, the picture is more mixed.
On the other hand, Ferrari plans to launch its first electric sports car sooner than Lamborghini in 2025.

On the other hand, Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri announced in November 2020 that Ferrari would not be an all-electric brand – or at least not in his lifetime.
However, Ferrari will also become an all-electric brand just like any other company in due course.
Lamborghini sales

Of course, as a high-end luxury sports car manufacturer,
Lamborghini doesn’t sell many cars .
Thus, if the Lamborghini fleet were electric, that wouldn’t change much in the larger scheme of things, unlike General Motors, Toyota, Volkswagen, and other companies.

However, the regulatory environment will soon affect Lamborghini.
However, Lamborghini sales rose rapidly, in 2010 it sold only about 1,300 cars, in 2015 it achieved higher sales of more than 3,200 cars, and in 2019 Lamborghini sales rose to 8,205 cars.
electric vehicle performance

The other fact behind all of this is that it’s also more than just regulation.
It is also a technological development.
Few would suspect this when faced with the exceptional performance of Tesla’s record-breaking new roadster.
lamborghini gallardo 5795139 1280 %D9%84%D8%A7%D9%85%D8%A8%D9%88%D8%B1%D8%BA%D9%8A%D9%86%D9%8A.jpg
The Roadster can accelerate to 60 mph in less than two seconds, reach a top speed of 250 mph, and have an impressive range of 600 miles.
The truth is that although electric cars may not have a V12 engine, they do beat it.
time will make

Time will tell how Lamborghini manages this transition, but they must manage it.
As a luxury car brand, on the other hand it is essential not to leave it behind.
Tesla is now three times more valuable than the world’s most valuable car company (Toyota).

Meanwhile, car companies are slow to develop a futuristic vision and electric technology is being penalized.
In the coming years, it will become more difficult than ever to sell gasoline-powered cars.

In short, this is an inevitable shift and in the future, Lamborghini cars will likely be more performing as electric cars.
