Maserati’s refurbishment began before parent company FCA and PSA merged to form Stellantis. Now part of the world’s fourth largest automaker, the Italian sports brand is pressing ahead with an overhaul of its lineup. After expanding the family to the mid-engine supercar MC20 , the company with the Trident badge is a more significant model if we are talking strictly about sales.
Maserati has announced that the Grecale will start at just under $65,000. That places it among the priciest compact luxury crossovers in the class.
Slitting through the bottom of the larger Levante, the new Grecale will be the same size as the Alfa Romeo Stelvio that we can also see in spy shots by photographer Walter Vayr. Several prototypes of the second Maserati SUV were completely spotted, and he was able to record every detail down to the wheels. Dense air vents at the front and quad exhausts at the rear mean this isn’t your typical boring SUV.

And with a peek through the camouflage, the headlights look somewhat similar to those on the MC20. But the taillights have a flatter design compared to the Levante’s and are divided by a piece of metal trim and nearly the width of the entire tailgate. All in all, despite the heavy disguises, you can easily tell that Grecale looks very different from Levante . Meanwhile, we have the impression that it comes very close to the new Stelvio.
Our predictions for the Grecoly Engine
Under the hood, expect to see Maserati’s 2.0-liter Lightweight Turbo Petrol Hybrid engine to power the base model. The hotter derivative can use a scrapped version of the Nettuno engine inside the MC20, which is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 producing 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Logic tells us that the Grecale will be more powerful than the Stelvio and Quadrifoglio and possibly with a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that puts out 505 hp and 600 Nm of torque.
An all-electric powertrain will also be put on the agenda, as Maserati has pledged to offer an electric version of all new products in the future. Masaretti is expected to unveil the Grecale combustion engine in the following months, with a view to seeing how the already underway advertising campaign plays out.
