The new Coronado e-Motion electric SUV will go on sale later in 2021, the financially affected South Korean manufacturer says
SsangYong has revealed the first official images of the new Korando e-Motion. It is an all-electric version of the Korando compact SUV, which is the first electric vehicle produced by the Korean brand . First unveiled late last summer, the Korando e-Motion is the first new vehicle to be unveiled by the financially beleaguered brand since it entered receivership in December 2020.

SsangYong said the Korando e-Motion will go on sale in Europe next August, and will reach UK roads before the end of 2021. But it did not reveal any pricing, saying only that it will offer discounted competition compared to the Hyundai Kona electric. And the electric Kia Niro, while directly rivaling the ZS from the MG ZS EV, may stand before the £30,000 threshold.
Its transition to electric power didn’t result in a major redesign on the petrol-diesel version of the Qurando, but the bodywork is largely the same. But it’s trimmed with some brand-new electric car design elements, like a more aerodynamic grille with a new front bumper and fog lights, aerodynamic wheels and new blue detailing around the car’s exterior to highlight its electric credentials.

Earlier, SsangYong confirmed that the Korando E-Motion will be powered by a single electric motor that produces 187 horsepower – or 26 horsepower more than the 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine installed on the current flagship crossover model.
No other specifications were revealed, but last summer, the brand promised a 61.5 kWh battery pack. As Ssangyong says; The Korando E-Motion has a range of over 260 miles on the outdated New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test cycle.
While the range number is a little low in the 339-mile NEDC range claimed by the Hyundai Kona Electric, the battery should allow for a real range of over 200 miles. The only official certification of the vehicle’s capabilities comes from Korea, where it is rated at 306 kilometers (190 miles) under the Korea Energy Management Corporation.
The south Korean marker says production of the Korando e-Motion has already begun, and also reveals that it has begun work on its next electric model: a mid-size electric SUV codenamed the J100.
