The production of the BMW X5 will begin in China in the second quarter of next year

BMW will soon launch a version of the long-wheelbase BMW X5 in the Chinese market, with many brands offering many different vehicles in configurations known as LWB. And it seems that the production of its X5 in China will not be the only car made there, as a company spokesperson recently confirmed that its SUV will also be produced in the People’s Republic of China.

The configuration, known as LWB, is an acronym for Long Wheelbase, a term used in the auto industry to describe luxury sedans or SUVs that feature a wheelbase that extends above the standard.
The term LWB has historically been used to describe cars with a heavy load, and is now more commonly associated with a vehicle that has plenty of room for rear passengers, and carries premium luxury features.

Media reports quoted an unnamed spokesperson who told us in a post that
the luxury sports car BMW X5, which is currently being assembled in the US, will soon arrive on assembly lines in China as well.
The new production will not affect production at the Spartanburg plant.

A spokesperson told Automotive News: “To meet the strong global demand for the BMW X5, we are expanding our global production capacity for the popular Sports Activity Vehicle.
We will add the local production of the BMW X5 in China, which is intended for the Chinese market.”

No specific date has been given for the start of Chinese production of the X5 yet, despite news that the German manufacturer will start production in China in the second quarter of next year at a plant run by the BMW Brilliance joint venture.
This information is based on leaked documents from a US supplier.
The German newspaper Handelsblatt published the same unofficial information.

It is worth noting that
from January to September this year, BMW sold nearly 700,000 cars in China of all its models.
This represents an increase of nearly 20 percent over last year and represents a third of total BMW sales combined in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
In the US, during the first nine months of the year, BMW delivered a total of 41,770 X5s.
