Lots of new startups have grown in the past 10 years, and the auto industry has seen some of the biggest and fastest changes ever, most notably the shift from fossil fuels to electric vehicles. Most of these changes have been driven by startups, with many of them so successful that they are no longer seen as startups. For example, Tesla has grown to become one of the biggest players in the industry, despite only producing its first car in 2008.
And it’s not just electric cars. Remarkably, newcomers in the supercar scene such as Koenigsegg and Pagani have made their own niche in the market, pushing the boundaries of automotive performance and design a leap forward. So, the question on many people’s minds is which company will be the next Tesla or Koenigsegg? Well, there are a lot of new startups out there with bold ideas and cars that are incredibly beautiful and powerful too, and these 10 are particularly groundbreaking examples. They’ve all brought something to the market that didn’t exist before, and they all have the potential to be much bigger than they are now.

Rivian
There are a lot of new electric car startups trying to make cars right now, and the hard truth is that most of them won’t work. One of the few companies that has a really good chance of doing well is Rivian, which is currently working on bringing the R1T pickup into production. They differ from a lot of startups in that they have demonstrable business models, and they have some serious backing.
A variety of industrial heavyweights such as Ford and Amazon have invested in the company, which is a very promising sign. This means that not only will Rivian get the financial backing to start production of their truck but investors are confident that the company can deliver on its ambitious promises as well. The first delivery of the R1T was scheduled for only a few months.

Aspark
It’s long been known that electric vehicles can be very fast, but Japanese tech company Aspark is bent on making them even faster. The concept car bearing the Owl name was first revealed in 2017, and a limited edition of 50 cars was announced . It uses advanced materials to make it extremely lightweight and is said to have 1,984 horsepower from its four electric motors. Aspark has stood out among the new startups.
According to the fairy tale, this would result in a reported 0-60 acceleration time of less than 1.7 seconds, and a 0-186 mph time of just 10.8 seconds. And if these reports are correct, that will make it the fastest running and accelerating car in the world. Production of this car began in 2020, but there is no information yet on the date of delivery of the first units to customers.

Fisker
Enthusiasts who have been following electric cars for a few years may recognize the company’s name, Fisker, as one of the new start-ups that was first attached to the ill-fated Fisker Karma sports car in 2011. The car’s manufacturer was Fisker Automotive , but went bankrupt in 2013. The Karma design was eventually sold to Chinese investors.
However, the man behind the car, Henrik Fisker, created a new company, also called Fisker Inc. The name is bafflingly nearly identical, and this new company promises to make better electric cars, and this time Fisker will offer a sports car and an SUV. Fisker has yet to show any meaningful progress with its cars, but it’s worth noting that Henrik has a look, and while the original Karma didn’t work, it was in many ways ahead of its time. And it’s worth noting the foundation of this new start-up to see if Fisker can get it right the second time around. To remain among the most promising emerging companies.

Ineos
Moving away from electric cars, the idea behind the Ineos was much more traditional. Jim Ratcliffe, one of Britain’s richest businessmen, saw that Land Rover was stopping production of the original Defender in 2015 and didn’t want to see it? So he set up his own car company, and started making his own version of Defender, called the Grenadier.
The resulting vehicle is based largely on the old Defender and shares many visual similarities. The car is now gearing up to start production and first deliveries are scheduled for 2022. It’s targeting the old Defender’s market share squarely, and early reviews suggest it’s up to Land Rover’s toughness and practicality. Ineos may be very new to the automotive world, but it looks like their first product could have a huge impact. It may even emerge from the new startup phase to become a landmark among auto manufacturers.

TR
No, there is no typo in the title, it’s really a re-engineered TVR now called TR. Not to confuse you, TR Supercars was formed by a group of former TVR engineers, and they brought us the 12 Speed, engineered to carry on the legendary speed, which was originally launched by TVR in 1997. The goal was to The Speed 12 was set to be the world’s fastest production car, but the project was abandoned when the company was notified that the car was simply not drivable on the road.
The car was very powerful, with a power of about 900 horsepower. The new version has been completely reworked by TR with modern components that are supposed to make the car more drivable on the road, although it’s still not completely out of order. It has the same look as the original model and is more powerful, with an incredible 1,012 horsepower from the 6.0-liter V12. And it’s probably the most extreme car that no one has ever heard of, at least not yet.

SCG Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, or SCG as it is more commonly known, is the brainchild of film producer and businessman James Glickenhaus. He’s a head car enthusiast, thirsty for a lot, and owns several notable Ferraris, including his own commissioned P4/5. As one of the new start-ups, SCG is originally an extension of his love for cars and currently offers a range of five cars.
Among the collection is one of the most unique cars, the SCG 003, a supercar that is close to authentic endurance racing cars and can be driven legally on the road. The second car is Boot, a Baja race-ready SUV that is once again road legal. The Boot, in particular, might be the craziest American SUV ever, and with a lineup like that we don’t know what the SCG comes next. Will it remain just one of the new start-ups, or will it go even further?

Hyperion
Much attention is given to electricity as the fuel of the future, but not much is given to hydrogen. There is only one major manufacturer that makes a hydrogen car, and that is Toyota. It’s called the Mirai, and it’s still available for purchase at dealerships although there is only one hydrogen fueling station in the US in California, making it useless anywhere else.
This lack of places to fill hasn’t deterred Hyperion, and as one of the new start-ups Hyperion is described as a mysterious startup that owns a prototype of a supercar called the XP-1. Not much is known about the company or the car yet, but it looks like they have a working prototype, which was spotted cruising the streets of Los Angeles in early 2021. But hydrogen’s performance potential is largely unknown, so it would be great to see what it can offer. Hyperion from this emerging technology.

One of the biggest problems with electric cars is their mass production. Tesla’s heels have been high for years, as they have constantly struggled to expand their manufacturing and supply chain facilities to keep pace with demand. From its inception as one of the new emerging companies, the Chinese company Nio aims to overcome such problems, as it prepares to be a large-scale manufacturer from day one.
It already sells a limited range of cars and SUVs in China, and is said to be targeting the US and European markets soon as well. The company is working on the assumption that a lot of cars will be converted to keep its business model running, and early signs appear to be on the right track. The company has just announced the launch of a new sub-brand that aims to undermine Tesla, which, if successful, could dramatically change the state of the mass-produced electric car market.

Puritalia
With the eyes of the past, Italian startup Puritalia aims to evoke the spirit of the classic touring cars of the 1960s, but with a distinctly modern twist. And their latest car, the Berlinetta, features Ford’s 5.0-liter V8 with an electric motor to make it a hybrid. It is said to produce 952 horsepower combined, but it can go about 12 miles on electric power alone.
It is expected that a total of 150 units of this new car will be built, and although the company is currently relatively unknown, if the Berlinetta is as fast as the company said it will definitely be a game changer. It’s undoubtedly a great look, and the Italian Grand Prix V8 might just be the ticket to convincing old-school bosses that hybrids can be desirable, too.

Rimac
Among the dozens of new companies emerging, Rimac has to be one of the hottest auto companies in recent years, even though it may have slipped under the radar of many enthusiasts. While other start-ups are gasping for electric cars, busy issuing press releases with wild claims about how their car is the absolute best, Rimac has been quietly working away and making big deals behind the scenes.
The recently launched Nevera is the culmination of this work and has already proven to be one of the fastest cars ever built. This is in addition to Rimac acquiring a controlling stake in Bugatti and close relations with the leading sports car manufacturer, Porsche. Rimac’s technology is undoubtedly one of the best in the world, reflecting Mr. Koenigsegg’s achievements a decade or two ago. It’s quite unbelievable considering that CEO Mate Rimac started the company while he was still at university in 2009., and it’s truly a pioneer and a new brand in the automotive world.
