Rumors and a wild brawl about the pure electric M2.
BMW iM2 producing 1,341 hp (1,000 kW) – does it sound too good to be true?
It probably is, but Car Magazine reports that such rumors are coming from a reliable source within BMW.
The British magazine, codenamed Project Katharina, said the M2 electric motor will be released in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of BMW M division. When?
in 2022.
Rumors have already swirled, including the BMW iM2 sports car’s supposed performance numbers – 0-60 mph (97 kph) somewhere between two and 2.5 seconds, plus a lap time around the Nürburgring at just under seven minutes.

Regardless of how you feel about recent design choices,
German manufacturer BMW is still one of the largest sports car manufacturers out there.
Cars like the BMW M2 CS are a reminder of the simple recipe for rear-wheel drive layout and a six-cylinder engine under the hood is best.
But, despite the quality of similar cars, manufacturers had to start thinking about an electric future,
This includes BMW’s M division.
We’ve heard rumors in the past about an electric M5, we’ve seen what the M-Enhanced i4 could look like, and now it’s time to turn our attention to the iM2, or an electric version of the M2.
While these rumors and numbers are certainly delicious, we should all remember that nothing has been confirmed until the automaker does.
Worse, the BMW blog reports that there is no truth to the claims made by the magazine.
According to the publication’s own sources, the iM2 project will not come in 2022 and will not have the said power output.
BMW iM2 Shall we see that for a pure electric carSo, what does it give?
Our guess is as good as yours now, but we can’t hide the fact that BMW is definitely toying with the idea of an electric car.
In fact, it was confirmed indirectly in January, with a target launch date this year.
Furthermore, an outgoing M2 body electric test mule was spotted last month (see gallery above) – complete with a lack of exhaust and the supposed area inside the wheelbase where the battery packs are.
Then again, this was neither a confirmation of the BMW iM2 nor a denial.
Now guess, all we can do is wait and listen to the ground for any development.
One thing is for sure, though: Electricity won’t sustain BMW’s M Performance division, sooner or later.
Will the BMW iM2 rumors become true
BMW iM2We first discovered this car in 2017, but now there are new rumors and it is really exciting.
Next year,
BMW M is celebrating its 50th birthday , and according to Car Magazine, that event will see BMW unveil an all-electric coupe called the iM2, and you get this – it will have 1,000 kilowatts.
Converted to horsepower, the equivalent of 1,341 small horsepower.
Now we must point out that these rumors and numbers have yet to be verified by anyone at BMW, but it is possible that Car Magazine has an exclusive story.
Then again, over 1,000 horsepower in a small car like the M2 seems more than a little excessive.

However, the rumors seem to have some substance, as reports suggest that the iM2 has an internal codename, “Project Katharina”, and will accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.5 seconds.
The car is supposed to be able to spin its wheels at speeds of about 75 miles per hour.
If true, it looks like the car might be rear-wheel drive.
Other sources say the car will still be able to ride the Nürburgring in about 6 minutes 50 seconds.
This all sounds too good to be true and would translate into an expensive, limited-production niche sports car if it were.
Perhaps the truth is that BMW will create the M2 CSL, but with the i moniker included as well.
We now have prices, power outputs, range estimates, and arrival dates for BMW’s new EVs, which start at $56,395 for the i4 and $84,195 for the iX. Both of BMW’s new EVs are arriving in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2022
Only time will prove it.
