This month, Jeep celebrates its 80th anniversary, with July 15, 1941 marking its official start. That was when the former Willys-Overland Corporation signed a contract with the US Department of War to begin production of the first military jeep.

Combining the two enemies.. electricity and water

Eighty years later, Jeep is looking to the future with electricity. Yes, Jeep’s rugged future is electric too, and the “Jeep Electrified” video released for the brand’s 80th birthday is pretty clear about that. At the end of the video, the all-electric Jeep Wrangler is fully submerged as fish swim around, with the caption, “Imagine. Do not try to.”

The popular Wrangler Rubicon costs $38,875 and $42,375 for the two-door and four-door body styles, respectively. The plug-in-hybrid Wrangler 4xe is brand-new for 2021. This PHEV starts at $47,995 for the base Sahara trim, $51,695 for the midlevel Rubicon, and $53,570 for the top-of-the-line 4xe High Altitude.
