Geely has really evolved to put its own touches in Xingyue L
Geely named its advanced SUV as Xingyue L in China, and it is the latest masterpiece from Geely with a design that takes the modern Geely Auto aesthetic under its new slogan “Acceleration Through Space and Time” in a new direction.
Designed by Geely Design Shanghai, Xingyue L is developing the design from Geely Auto ‘s Preface Concept . Jay Burgoyne, Vice President of Design at Geely Design Shanghai commented: “In 2019, we unveiled an introduction to what’s to come, a new design language and a slingshot of our expanding philosophy. In 2020, with a new design language and a passion for making an idea into reality, we created a refined, ultra-high-quality SUV concept. Today, this very distinct concept has become Xingyue L.”
Under Geely’s expanding Cosmos design philosophy, the design aesthetic is centered on “acceleration through space and time”. The latter Xingyue L has taken this aesthetic and developed it into a new “Symphony of Space and Time”, a symphony resulting from all the experiments and innovations of my generation, a symphony of Eastern and Western style, a symphony of humanity and technology.
My generation and the symphony of space and time
Xingyue L is built with powerful proportions; and a 1610mm wide wheel track and 2845mm long wheelbase, resulting in a strong presence and an extended interior. Viewing Xingyue L from different angles presents a bold, calm, challenging yet refined, classic and modern image.
The rear design looks so thin that I can imagine it crowded into the lower area of the bulbs
From the front, a bold and resolute energy emanates from the signature Expanding Cosmos grille. The vertical slices in the grid expand from the jelly logo towards the ends like a moving cosmic energy wave. The three-segment matrix headlights provide a hint of the technology inherent in the Xingyue L. Each headlight is made up of 126 individually controlled LEDs, allowing brightness to be customized and even lighting effects.
From the side, the luxurious, streamlined design can be seen with clean lines that simplify sophistication. The slingshot aesthetic inherited from the front appears again as a highlight that travels from the side view mirrors around the side windows, and rotates back toward the A-pillar.
Symphony SUV
In the back of its SUV, Xingyue L gets dot rear lights with 176 LEDs. They are connected to each other by a strip of lights, aiming to create a visual effect of cosmic aurora when viewing Xingyue L from behind.
High mountains and flowing rivers in Gili
The interior of Xingyue is where a true symphony between eastern and western design is seen. Inspired by the classic oriental image of high mountains and flowing rivers, an integrated panoramic cockpit space was created. Its designers aim to create a luxurious, visually immersive environment that integrates intelligent human-machine interaction to deliver the best experience for drivers and passengers.
The first feature that stands out is a meter-long streamlined infotainment screen that connects the co-pilot to the driver. Visually stacked above the driver’s digital instrument panel, Geely says it’s front instrument panel reminds us of overlapping mountains. And despite the advances in technology, this interior design feature does not lose sight of the basic oriental cultural concept of “sharing the experience with everyone around you”. The latest generation of GKUI allows for seamless connectivity, ultra-fast data, and a high definition resolution of 1920 x 720.
The new Geely comes with the creation of a modern interior but is classically polished in details, including choices of materials and colors. The Xingyue L comes with a dual-tone interior that combines a polished cybernetic black with a classic bronze patina.
SUV with new touch
Cyber black highlights the model’s technological heritage while zingy green reminds us of ritual bronze wares awarded to nobles in Asian history. Custom suede is found throughout the interior giving passengers a slight hint of luxury with the feel of a soft feather.
The fabric in the seats includes Chinese elements such as the classic knot, adding an element of refinement in the details while giving a visual reminder of where the brand is.
Technology also plays a major role in creating a luxurious interior environment. Xingyue L comes equipped with a high-performance BOSE 10-speaker sound system integrated with motor harmonic noise reduction technology and dual-layer soundproofing, creating a quiet indoor environment similar to a symphony concert hall. Interior lighting is also taken to the next level with a customizable 72-color atmospheric lighting system that changes depending on the driving situation.
Sophistication touches from Geely and Volvo
Developed on the most advanced embedded architecture from Geely, Xingyue L is world-class in safety, performance, intelligence and sustainability. Powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine jointly developed by Volvo and Geely and matched with either Geely’s self-developed 7-speed wet dual-clutch or Aisin 8-speed automatic transmission, users are offered two tuning options; A high-power version with a maximum power of 175 kW and up to 380 Nm of torque capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds or a medium-power version with a maximum power of 160 kW and up to 325 Nm capable of Acceleration 0-100 km / h in 7.9 seconds.
With the 6th generation all-wheel drive system provided by BorgWarner for Geely, a 50:50 front/rear torque distribution is made possible, providing Xingyue L users with improved off-road performance. Five driving modes will be available; Energy-saving ECO mode, enhanced NORM mode, fast SPORT mode, reliable SNOW mode and powerful OFFROAD soft mode.
Bypassing the independent L2 motor, Xingyue L comes equipped with Geely’s latest fully automatic unmanned service system with 5G technology. Within an area of 200 meters such as a parking lot, Xingyue L can drive 100% on its own, search for places and park itself. The opposite could also be achieved by summoning Xingyue L to capture the user in the 200m area. The vehicle is able to achieve this feat by integrating 12 ultrasonic radars, 5 mm wave radars, 4 high-resolution peripheral vision cameras, 1 monocular camera, 1 camera, 1 indoor camera, and 24 environmental sensors.
Following the steps provided in connectivity, Xingyue L comes with a full OTA firmware which allows essential aspects of the vehicle to be upgraded including smart safety, infotainment, power, chassis, autonomous driving, connectivity, etc. over time. Connected with Geely’s technology ecosystem, Xingyue L grows with Geely’s growth.
The new Xingyue L is Geely Auto’s most exclusive SUV to date. It combines elegance and refinement inspired by classic images of high mountains and flowing rivers. The latest high-end SUV from Geely is scheduled to be launched in the Chinese market in the coming weeks with plans to go global in the near future.
