An accurate and comprehensive review of the Opel Grandland X features defects and prices

An accurate and detailed review of the opel Grandland X, features, defects and price

The Opel Grandland X came somewhat later than the family SUV party in the global market, appearing more than 10 years after the Nissan Qashqai was launched. It’s based on the same platform as the Peugeot 3008, though, and Opel/Vauxhall had some head start when I started working on the design.

The Opel Grandland X is one of
three SUVs sold by Opel – the other two being the Crossland and the Mokka – and as its name suggests, it’s the largest of the three.
This puts it in fierce competition with many competitors of the same size, so it should stand out in a crowd that already includes the Hyundai Tucson, Peugeot 3008, Skoda Karoq and Volvo XC40.
The Opel Grandland X shares some of its engines with the 3008: it has a 128-horsepower 1.2-liter petrol engine (marked 1.2 130 hp turbo), and there is an option for a 128-horsepower diesel (marked 1.2 130 Turbo D), both of which are all-wheel drive. front end.
Also like the Peugeot 3008,
there are a couple of plug-in hybrids to choose from, one with front-wheel drive and the other with a Hybrid4 with all-wheel drive .
Opel Grandland X

But what about appearance? Well, we’ll leave it to you to decide if you like the design, but there’s no denying that Opel has done well to hide its origins. But it certainly feels more “traditional” than the brutally styled Peugeot 3008 and thanks to the simple, symmetrical lines and black livery that hint at some of the Grandland’s off-road capabilities.

Not that the Opel Grandland X is particularly suitable for off-road driving, as most variants are front-wheel drive, so if you’re planning on going off the beaten track thinking it’s a family SUV, we’d suggest a Range Rover Evoque instead.

So, with all that said, should the Opel Grandland X be at the top of the family’s SUV list? This is what this review will tell you, and because we at Mallaky.com are only telling you the truth and the truth, we will mention three advantages and three disadvantages after the summary of the experience and evaluation at the end of the article.

PERFORMANCE
AND DRIVING What does driving look like, and how quiet is it

First: the engine, acceleration 0-60 mph and gear

The range of engines for the Opel Grandland X starts with a 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine (has the 1.2 130 hp turbo badge). Don’t be tempted by the whistling, and don’t expect hiccups with this engine given its small size, it produces a respectable 128 horsepower. And you’ll have to work hard to get there, but there’s a larger, more powerful 1.6-liter 180-hp petrol engine (branded with the 1.6 180-hp Turbo D badge), but it’s only available on high-spec Ultimate models, so you don’t need that much power for the money difference.

And let me tell you a little about the Grandland Diesel, it’s a 1.5-liter turbo D engine with 128 hp that accelerates more powerfully without the need for high rpm, compared to the 1.2 liter petrol engine that needs high rpm, that is, at the lowest rpm you get to highway speeds With ease and ease, unlike the gasoline engine, which shifts to a high revving speed and blows its last effort when accelerating or when driving hard.

Opel grandland x hybrid 202120210212 1105.jpg

A six-speed manual transmission is standard with 128 hp diesel and petrol engines, while an eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on the 1.6 petrol engine and optional on lower engines.

There are two options in the hybrid system that offer you additional components, and in both options both have an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The front-wheel-drive hybrid trim delivers 221 hp, while the Hybrid4 trim adds an electric motor to power the rear wheels, taking total power to 296 hp – enough for a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. .

However, the Standard Hybrid version or trim isn’t exactly slow (during the test I clocked a 0-60 mph time of 7.8 seconds on our test track) and its all-electric range came a mile more than the Hybrid4 version’s electric mobility clocked in at 34 miles. Electric as per WLTP test and let’s be extra careful expect 25 miles in real-world driving conditions. So, I had a hard time figuring out why the Hybrid4 made a huge price jump when the real-world price tag didn’t fit the price difference (we’ll discuss pricing in more detail later).

Suspension and Driving Comfort

It’s hard to compare riding an Opel Grandland X over lousy roads to riding a car like the Volvo XC40, especially around town, where the Grand has some big abrasions that cause your seat to jiggle.

It settles at higher highway speeds, though, and that can be due to the extra weight of the batteries, and I feel this a lot on the Hybrid and feel more lumpy in the city than regular cars, but they stop feeling uncomfortable on the highways.

Our Opel Grandland X Concept, like the XC40 and sporty rivals like the Seat Ateca, has an edge when it comes to body control. Especially on undulating country roads, the Grandland X’s relatively soft suspension allows the body to move quite a bit, bothering you and your passengers. Especially your passengers from the back area, and this can cause a bit of car sickness, so be sure to bring the whole family along for the test drive.

Treatment at Opel Grandland

Opel grandland x hybrid 202120210212 1108.jpg

Despite the somewhat soft suspension, the conventionally powered Opel Grandland X doesn’t sway much through the bends, but there is a noticeable amount of sway when braking and braking hard especially at high speeds.

The hefty weight of the batteries in the hybrid models puts more weight on the body and makes the car feel heavier when changing direction quickly, but the motion control remains good across all variants, and it’s a nice and tidy car to maneuver.

Steering is tricky to take off, causing it to feel sluggish on the highway, but as soon as you turn the wheel a few degrees, the car begins to change direction very quickly. Steering is more advanced and feels more intuitive. But driving seemed normal and not very enjoyable.

Noise and vibration

The petrol engine in the Opel Grandland X shoves away and makes a rather raspy sound at high revs, plus there’s a constant engine groan at high speeds. It also sends quite a few vibrations through the pedals, and in return I found the diesel engine to be generally quieter, only buzzing at very high revs.

The manual models in some versions have a relatively long gearshift lever, while there is no length in the optional automatic transmission, whether for the gasoline engine or for the diesel engine, but the latter shifts the movement very gently between gears, but at the beginning of the start it shows something stingy in motion. He was slowly moving, perhaps intentional.

In terms of transmission between engines on hybrid models you can smoothly and quietly shift electric power, but once you start the 1.6-liter petrol engine, you can’t help but notice that it sends quite a few vibrations through the controls. It does give you a relatively quiet feel when you’re walking around and the car is moving, but it gets a little rough if you really put your foot on the pedal too hard. The hybrid automatic gearbox is also nimble and slow to respond when you need a boost of acceleration.

And from 50mph onwards, you’ll have to put up with some wind noise from the door mirrors on all versions, especially on relatively rough asphalt, where you’ll feel a degree of road noise as well. It’s not terribly loud but almost noticeable, and you’ll find the XC40, on the other hand, is much quieter.

Interior Interior
design, fit and finish

Driving position and dashboard

The Opel Grandland X has a good selection of seat adjustments, steering wheel and pedals that align well with the driver’s seat, so most people will find it easy enough to feel comfortable. It suffices to sit reasonably high, roughly in line with Hyundai Tucson drivers, although the XC40 has a seating position that feels like you’re still higher than the rest.

The seats are generally well supported, and there may even be more side bolsters to help keep you in place during bends. The Grand allows you to control the movement of the seats, where you can adjust the comfortable seats in 16 positions, and the seats support the lumbar area well, and this support comes in all versions except for the SE Premium trim seats for beginners, and with the Elite Nav option you can make a full electric adjustment of the seats and enjoy the seat Heated steering wheel.

We come to the area that is most important to the driver, which is the dashboard area. The dashboard area in the Grand Land is more positive. The dashboard is designed in a neat, logical and good way. I liked those separate climate control buttons that are easy to operate; It is an advantage to its credit, unlike both the Peugeot 3008 and the Volvo XC40, where you sink in them, and find that you need to plunge into the infotainment screen and enter many menus – only – to change the interior temperature. This can be a distraction for you while driving, while the separate buttons on the Opel Grandland are better controlled.

Vision, sensors and cameras

You can get a good front view in the Opel Grandland X. The front view level is excellent, but the rear window does not provide a better view of the rear area, and the company may have relied on the presence of front and rear parking sensors, which come standard in all trim levels, and a rear view camera is available Standard trims from Business Edition Nav and above.

However, if you want a full panoramic camera, you’ll need to upgrade the options from the regular models, and opt for the Nav Premium business trim on the hybrid versions.

All versions except for the SE Premium trim have a system that warns you if another vehicle enters your blind spot, bright LED headlights are standard across the range, and the same goes for the auto-dipping rearview mirror.

I liked the Adaptive LED headlights, which are able to shape their main beam output to prevent severely harassing other drivers in the opposite direction, and they come standard on the Ultimate package that tops the trim, and comes on Business Edition Nav Premium / Elite Nav Hybrids), but is optional on the SRi Nav versions. and Elite Nav.

Satellite navigation and infotainment system

The Opel Grandland X SE Premium model at the start of the range has a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with audio streaming via Bluetooth as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mirroring for smartphones. And if you choose any higher version starting with the SE Premium trim, you get a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen, with built-in satellite navigation, whose instructions are easy enough to follow.

Actually, I’ve determined that the “graphical processing” of the screen’s graphics is reasonably clear, though not as impressive as the Tucson or Karoq graphics, and that doesn’t prevent the screen from being evaluated as a solid touch product, and its good touch response makes it easy to record your input. The screen includes some tasks and commands, such as pairing your phone via Bluetooth, but delving into the sub-menus that may cause distress during navigation, and in this regard, it should be noted that the physical shortcut buttons at the bottom of the screen are a welcome touch, and there are also audio controls on the steering wheel to provide Convenience on the go and less on the road.

Quality Opel Grandland X

Opel grandland x hybrid 202120210212 1102.jpg

Inside the cabin, Opel used soft-touch plastics on the dashboard of the Opel Grand Land X, and did not forget to put in glossy black decorative trim and chrome accents to add more interest and attention. I’ve found that higher-spec models get more metallic finishes to help elevate the ambiance and increase aesthetics.

However, the interior of the Grandland didn’t impress me. While all of this helps with the quality and feel, the Grandland X’s cabin still lacks the wow factor as the luxury Hyundai Tucson, Peugeot 3008 or Volvo XC40, and that’s despite it starting at a point The price is similar to that of the competition cars. Even the cheaper Skoda Karoq feels more luxurious in most areas of the cabin.

Space for passengers and luggage compartment

front space

Opel grandland x hybrid 202120210212 1097.jpg

An important point in any car is the presence of overhead space, and the Grandland has plenty of headroom and other good legroom, the Opel Grandland X’s comfortable headroom fully accommodates taller adults, and of course the spacious interior ensures that front seat occupants will have plenty of room in front of the elbows . However, if you are over six feet tall and are concerned about space, be sure to take a look at the Hyundai Tucson, one of the largest models in the family SUV segment.

Like the Peugeot 3008, the Grandland X’s glove box is very small. Besides that, the central storage box under the front armrest suffers from the problem of small size as well, and there are fewer small boxes scattered around you in doors and other areas.

background space

Legroom in the rear of the Opel Grandland X is reasonable, but Hyundai Tucson, Seat Ateca, Volkswagen Tiguan and Volvo XC40 all offer more room. These models are a bit wider as well, better suited to carrying three adults side by side, but the Grandland has a flat floor that at least gives the middle passenger plenty of legroom.

The optional panoramic glass sunroof eats up a portion of the headroom in the rear area, however, you should avoid carrying tall, above-average adults in that area regularly. This panoramic roof is standard on Elite Nav versions but not available at all on hybrid cars.

Seat folding and flexibility

Opel grandland x hybrid 202120210212 1098.jpg

Folding rear seats are standard on all versions, but they’re only 60/40 split, and they don’t have the more varied 40/20/40 splits though they are splits available on some competitors. But only the SE Premium versions offer an impressive package and prove the craftsmanship of the Opel Grandland X; And the choice of one of the versions of this version adds an armrest in the central rear seat.

It is very easy to lower the backrests in Grand Land; Easy-release, quick-release levers are located directly next to the tailgate opening. Once inside, passengers lie completely flat with no extra steps, everything is comfortable.

And unlike the Tiguan or SE L and above Karoqs, the Grandland X doesn’t have rear seats that slide forward and backward to allow you to balance rear legroom and luggage space. However, this represents a more than expected luxury in this price range and I think it is unfair to claim it here.

Rear trunk space

Opel grandland x hybrid 202120210212 1099.jpg

The Opel Grandland comes with a trunk capacity of 514 liters, and the trunk space in the Opel Grandland is spacious, but the luggage compartment “trunk” is not the largest space among the competitors, it is spacious enough to easily accommodate a buggy or two large bags. The Opel Grand trunk comes with a practical system as well, without embarrassing interventions. The hybrid models of the Opel Grandland X have batteries located under the trunk floor, and this reduces the liter capacity in the trunk to 390 liters. This is a big loss, but it actually leaves you with enough room to carry a large weekly store or all the family holiday baggage.

In addition to the height-adjustable boot floor, you get a hatch that lets you slide long and skinny loads, which you can roll through the boot to the rear seats, except for the entry-level SE Premium trim level which doesn’t have this feature. You’ll find this feature on the Hybrid, Griffin and Elite Nav versions, and I forgot to tell you that the tailgate is a power door that you can open with a swipe of your foot under the rear bumper. This is optional in Elite Nav versions.

Daily prices and costs, their reliability and safety

Prices in the Egyptian market

Al-Mansour Automotive Company, the exclusive agent of the “Opel” brand in Egypt, announced the prices of the 2021 “Opel Grand Land” cars, the first category “Elegance” at a value of 450 thousand pounds, and the price of the second category “H/L” at a value of 490 thousand pounds, and the category estimated The third “T/L” is about 520,000 pounds in the local market.

Prices in the Saudi market

The price of the Opel Grand Land, the HIGHLINE category, is about 117.000 thousand riyals, and the price of the TOPLINE category reaches 124.800 thousand riyals.

Opel Grand Land X pricing

The majority of the Opel Grandland X has a higher starting price than the Seat Attica and Skoda Karoq, but it’s still lower than the Hyundai Tucson and Volvo XC40. It should be noted that the standard specifications of the Grandland X SE at the beginning of the range match the prices of the mid-spec versions, which are of course more expensive. However, since the Grandland X has expected pricing values in the range, Vauxhall’s insurance deals in Western countries can make it a bit more competitive.

Meanwhile, hybrids are way too expensive for us to recommend them to private buyers, especially since the Hybrid 4 is too expensive for the SRI Nav versions.

However, if you’re a corporate driver, a regular hybrid is a very tempting proposition thanks to its respectable all-electric range and low official CO2 emissions. This puts it in a much lower price category than benefits in kind, but just be aware that your fleet manager will have to put up with a hefty rental rate.

fuel economy

The fuel economy of the Opel Grand Lan X is competitive, placing it higher among its competitors: the petrol engine needs a liter to deliver more than 40 mpg in official fuel economy tests, and all Grandland versions are economical regardless of wheels, tires and gearbox. Whichever you choose, the 1.5 liter diesel engine only consumes 1 gallon per 50 miles, it’s really diesel saving.

And while it’s unlikely to reach 192 mpg in electric mode for the regular hybrid and 204 mpg for the Hybrid4, even if you finish charging the entire battery, we’ve tested it and found it does more than 40 mpg on the road test While we drove it, and under the same conditions, the Tucson Hybrid achieved 36 mpg and the XC40 Light Hybrid only achieved 33 mpg. So Opel will still be more economical on petrol, no matter what equipment, options and add-ons you choose.

Every Opel Grandland X comes with alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, automatic headlights (including high-beam assist) and windshield wipers.

However, our favorite is the Business Edition Nav, which is still affordable and adds a host of desirable features including a larger 8.0-inch infotainment system, built-in navigation, a rear-view camera, a comfortable driver’s seat, and wireless mobile phone charging. 60/40 split rear seats and an additional safety package.

As you’ve read in the sections above, the range-topping Ultimate does get some really useful tools, but it’s simply too expensive to recommend.

credibility

The Opel Grandland X underperformed somewhat in our latest vehicle in the Reliability Survey, finishing 12th out of 17 other family SUVs. That puts it below the Skoda Karoq, Volvo XC40, Seat Ateca and Peugeot 3008, but above the Range Rover Evoque and Nissan Qashqai.

Like all Opel models, the Grandland X comes with a three-year or 60,000-mile warranty and one-year roadside assistance. This matches cover offered by most other manufacturers, but Opel can’t beat Hyundai and Toyota’s five-year warranties or Kia’s class-leading seven-year package.

Safety and security

Like most competitors, the Opel Grandland X has six airbags and has been awarded a five-star safety rating by Euro NCAP. However, if you dig into the details, you’ll notice that the XC40 does a slightly better job of protecting front and rear seat occupants in the event of a frontal collision.

The entry-level SE Premium vehicles come with a lane departure warning, but it’s so disappointing that they miss out on Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). It’s standard on the rest of the Grandland X range and also has Driver Drowsiness Alert, Blind Spot Warning and Lane Keep Assist.

Each model has an alarm and an immobilizer. Security experts rated Thatcham Grandland X four out of five stars in terms of its anti-theft ability, but five stars for totally anti-theft.

Summary and judgment

The Opel Grandland X is competitively priced in most trim levels, and is well equipped and spacious enough for most families. However, it’s hard to ignore the cheaper Skoda Karoq, which has a nicer interior, is sharper, more comfortable to drive and has a more refined engine lineup. And drivers of the company’s cars in the market will find the hybrid Opel Grandland X models to be cost-effective. We conclude by choosing three disadvantages and three advantages

FeaturesDefects
Generous standard equipmentNoisy engines
Ordinary hybrid is a cost-effective company carThe infotainment system is slow
Low carbon dioxide emissionsIt’s hard to drive smoothly
